Aug 24, 2008Gerahben posted a message on Jay Wilson Interview for www.grytv.plI am also hoping for a longer game than Diablo II was. Four acts seems a bit short. However, if all the acts are a little bit longer than Diablo II's and it has a full length act 4 (unlike DII) it should be a good length for me.Posted in: News

Ah! You bring up a great point! If runes were to have stats and higher ranked runes could potentially bestow some powerful enhancements, perhaps it would give a great incentive to spreading out points rather than focusing on one or two skills. I believe it is Blizzard's intention to have us spread out points a bit more than in Diablo II. I am not for or against rune stats, but it is something interesting to consider.

Thank you for reiterating what I stated in my original post. Perhaps the subtitle mislead you and I apologize. I would more like to discuss whether runes should have stats and more importantly how rune finding will contribute to the overall item finding/trading aspect of the game.

If every single rank 7 Obsidian rune is equal to every single other rank 7 Obsidian rune in the game, it seems as if it will be a fairly dull mechanic as far as item collecting goes. Of course, let me qualify that statement by saying that little is know about drops rate, crafting, etc of runes. Blizzard could have some fun stuff in store fun us in that regard.

How did you imagine them when they were first announced and how do you think they will turn out. Assuming they don't have stats, do you think Blizzard has missed a customization option?
Personally, I think it would be neat to have stats beyond their base characteristics, but I don't know if it is neccesary considering the already enormous amount of customization possible.
Edit: Changed Topic Description From "Will runes have stats?" to "Should runes have stats?" for subject clarity.

As for which should be more powerful, crafted or dropped items, I think there could be somewhat of a compromise by allowing even the most powerful dropped items to be slightly augmented through crafting.

Then again, I am very easily amused.

You are certainly not wrong. However, if a monthly fee would bring the level of hacking/duping that is going on now in the free Diablo2 to the level of WoW, I would gladly pay it. Throw in ongoing content and it would be even better. Of course, $15 a month or whatever WoW is these days would probably be too much, but $5 seems reasonable to me.
With that said, I doubt that hacking/duping will be as much as a problem with bnet2 and I would be fine with the pay for expansion model rather than smaller ongoing content additions.

Ideally Blizzard would find a way to increase MF that is independent of gear. Perhaps they could have potions. They could even devise some sort of rudimentary crafting system that involves bringing dropped components to an NPC that can brew up potions that could do things like increasing MF for a certain amount of time. Perhaps they could have shrines (or something similar to them) that could increase MF. They could even tie MF into the combo system they seem to be playing around with.
