Here are my thoughts. There is likely some agent of Diablo still alive and roaming Sanctuary, converting humans to the cause of Terror. With Diablo and co. having been purged from existence and flung into the Abyss, it is now a roiling cauldron of unstable energy, spontaneously generating monstrosities at the behest of Triune Cultists. This process is made simpler due to the thinning of the veil between Sanctuary and the outer realms, a result of the destruction of the World Stone.
Banished from Heaven, Tyrael may serve one of two roles: Either A.) Turn to aid the Cultists and resurrect Diablo on earth, allowing the Lord of Terror a conduit to heaven. In this manner Tyrael may show Heaven just how important Sanctuary truly is. Or B.) Tyrael will be subdued and used as a vessel to embody some great evil, forming an Angel/Demon Hybrid.
Either way, Sanctuary will be a playground for Heavenly and Hellish forces alike.

In the manual it is clearly stated that warriors from all across Sanctuary became aware of the Three Prime Evils and attempted to route the evils plaguing their world. Necromancers, Amazons, Druids, etc, all fought against the demons.

To me, H P Lovecraft is sort of a one-trick pony, beginning all of his stories with, "An unutterable, ineffible terror lurks behind ye olde curtain. Let me, a lowly outside and flawed observor, recount to you this most abominable of stories of which I had the misfortune of unfortunately experiencing." I've read a few of his stories, but disagree strongly with his personal views of the world and his manner of writing proper horror. I do, however, find the mythos he has created appealing.

To me, Mephisto, being the eldest, is the most concerned about tradition and "the proper way of things", which would be enforcing the Hell v Heaven schism. This is why he was most driven by an almost religious fervor as he summoned the Hell Gate; yet also would be willing to make deals with Heaven. Curiously, he is voiced by the voice actor of Aldaris from StarCraft, and Aldaris was old, traditional and dogmatic... like Meph.
Baller, being the middle brother, is a bit of an outcast and sees himself as such, and applies his genius to the mastery of the battlefield, which is where wars are truely won. Let Diablo and Mephisto manipulate and beguile all they want; in the end, they're just sitting around.
Diablo, on the other hand... well, I've dealt with him above.
It's always the quiet ones you have to look out for.
... Like me. >=)

There seem to be two pictures of her; one more demonic in appearance than the other. I wonder if there might be some significance behind that...
This raises a few questions, such as; How does a Demon acquire the status of Prime or Lesser Evil? Are the Lessers just pretenders, forever existing in the shadow of the true Prime Evils? Are the Lesser Evils avatars of true natural forces? Or are the names -- Pain, Anguish, Hatred -- just names of realms of Hell, the lords of which name themselves after them?

The Wanderer's body became a vessel for Diablo. His personal energies, essence, life force coursed through that body. For all intents and purposes, that WAS his body. To think otherwise wouldn't really make sense.
The Soul Stone was carved from the World Stone, a monolith of unknown, untapped arcane power. If you follow all of this, then it can be said that, "Yes, Diablo's form was pierced and blemished by the Soul Stone."
His spirit was marred, leaving a hole in his head.

The Drizzt books are an acquired taste, in my opinion. I don't like books where magic underpins all society in so blatant a fashion. I much prefer subtle use of it, or where there is a twist in its use. Read James Clemens' "The God Slayer Chronicles" and "The Wi'tch War" to see what I mean.

1.) In the Tombs of the Horadrim, the remnants of the Wanderer's spirit and will was crushed by that of Diablo, forever suppressed.
2.) The corporeal manifestation of Diablo was derived from the body of the Wanderer. This form was destroyed. Therefor, while Diablo's spirit remained within the Soul Stone, his corporeal form was lost, demanding he acquire a new one. He didn't. Ergo, the Wanderer, in both spirit and body, is lost.
The Soul Stone likely left an indelible mark on Diablo's very spirit, a gaping wound that will never heal.

The upturned sword symbol / Imperius... thing...
Some connection between the two symbols? Who knows.

... To be honest, I was pretty freaked out by a lot of things and huddled next to my gf. Ultimately, however, the movie excelled more in anticipation than gruesome imagery, which I enjoy... ^^;;
My friends were of the opinion that there were no ghosts, that everything that happened occurred in the woman's mind, including the end-scene, one last hallucination before she died. Everything else that happened was either because of the child himself poking around, or her paranoid delusions, on which the medium preyed.
