I don't even think people that worked on the game liked Act III or the designer for that act was a sadist along with the guy that came up with the idea for the maggot lair.

They loved the maggot lair so much, they put it in their next game. True story bro.

If a bad idea is bad the first time around, you can always go and make it terribad the next time around.

posted a message on They ought to make Golem Mastery allow you to summon more than 1 golem at a time
Like around every 6 hard points in Golem Mastery, allow you to summon an additional Golem.

In addition, they obviously need to buff the guys to be the strength of a few skeletons.

The passive bonuses they give one another could really stand to be tweaked, as well. Instead of life or attack rating or defense or damage; it'd be awesome if they'd condense them. Could be as simple as:

Clay Golem: +5% Life and Damage Per Level
Blood Golem: +5% Life and Damage Per Level
Fire Golem: +5% Life and Damage Per Level

    Or more convoluted :

Clay Golem: +5% Damage and Attack Rating Per Level
Blood Golem: +5% Life and Defense Per Level
Fire Golem: +5% Damage and Attack Rating Per Level

Altogether, the point is that the Golems are currently in a niche position, a potential Skill Point dump that is never really used. But it's a build that could be a really cool alternative to the Skeleton Horde. Things this addresses:

Any Golem by itself, isn't as good as even a few skeletons. Even if he caused and could take as much damage as them all, he still doesn't have the screen coverage the skeletons do. He's not an AoE like they are, nor will he give you as much protection by lineblocking the monsters. For an Iron Golem to be viable in lieu of Skeletons, he would have to shoot rockets out of his back. Since they probably don't have the art assets for that, allowing multiple golems is an easy solution to this issue.

Pumping a golem as an additional skill after skeletons are maxed. Really, Golem Mastery as insurance on an Iron Golem made out of a pricey runeword that grants him an aura is the only skill pump they have.

    ----

In other things, skeletons can probably use some more adjusting. Skeletons could stand to have their max number curved down some more. It's realistic to have 14+ at a time now, and it's a bit absurd having an army ten times larger then screens full of demons. Personally 6 or 8 max is more reasonable.

Skeleton Mage damage could use a significant bump, upping the level of the spells they cast is pretty simple to do. Their max number could stand to be curbed down as well.

Revives could stand to have their number curbed as well. Secondary buffs to Revives could stand to be added, +damage or such for Revive points, instead of it just scaling with the maximum limit.

Skeletons probably give way more than they should for 40 skillpoints. Fireball can be an 80 point dump, for crying out loud. Other skills should have smaller buckets, or skeletons should have a bigger one. Personally, I think this passive stuff has gotten out of hand and I ought to be able to max two different elements on a Sorceress that isn't the newly gimped Nova and Firewall.

Once again. Right... YOU KNOW that it will be useless. What if they make repairs so expensive that without gold you can't continue playing. Then it won't be so useless anymore, will it?
They wouldn't do that, because they enjoy having customers. Le duh.

Hahaha, the guy thinks duping was the reason single slot, useful items became the currency in Diablo 2. Ridiculous.

All the duping did was drive up inflation, runes would always be the currency for LoD, as the SoJ used to be in the base game. They were basically designed to be.

Gold is going to be useless in Diablo 3, unless it's tied directly to character power and you can't manage to reasonably acquire enough to stay ahead of the curve. I.E.:

Skill Tomes to "level up" your skills, a hybrid of WoW and Diablo 1's system, where it takes more and MOAR tomes to level up a skill. Not going to happen, because that's what the skill rune system is for, tacking on yet another layer is needlessly over-complicating things.

Buying gear from the merchant / crafting system. The crafting system is probably not going to be as reliable as rune words, perhaps, so it'd just be a money hole like gambling was. If these were the best way to get every best-in-slot item, then it'd kill the gambling system of killing stuff to see what drops. Also not going to happen.

Ergo, gold will at best remain like water, instead of a currency. Which is okay, but the guy doesn't have to try so hard to razzle dazzle us...

posted a message on *ANNOUNCEMENT* BlizzCon Ticket Contest - Class Art Contest!
Long before the advent of the Three Brothers, Xian, Lord of Dreams and Desire, reigned uncontested within the Burning Nightmare. But, with long millineums, new gods would arise, and ursup his realm with their combined might. Banished now, in a plane far removed from the Heavens and Sanctuary, he bides his time, bestowing his blessings upon a select few champions, for when the time of reckoning comes, they shall ride forth into the world and shatter the walls of his prison. And upon that day, he shall reclaim that which was once his.

A brand new and innovative class, that goes beyond retreading the same-old same-old, we are proud to announce....

    The Crazy Cat Lady

Also: The Crazy Cat Man (Not pictured)

The Crazy Cat Lady is a master of Cat Archery - the art of archery with cats. Instead of flinging rather benign arrows at her prey, The Crazy Cat Lady uses vicious crazed wild animals as her ammunition. At the beginning of her training, she is only adept at tossing small fluffy kittens. However, with experience her strength and technique will improve, and she will attain the power to throw full sized house cats, super-fat Garfield-sized cats, bobcats, and, when she finally attains demi-god levels of power, full-grown tigers and lions.

    Skill Trees

    Cat Archery

The most prized class of skills of any Crazy Cat Lady.

Shaken Kitty - The Crazy Cat Lady vigorously shakes her weapon, causing it to pee and or vomit on contact with its target, causing small additional splash damage.

Tornado Kitty - Throw a cat in a vicious, incredibly fast spiral, that hits a large swath of monsters with its dangling, flailing claws.

    Cat Mysticism

The spirtual path of The Crazy Cat Lady, which uses her living weapons as a conduit to access the dark powers of Dark Lord Xian.

Cat of Doom - The Crazy Cat Lady uses a Cursed Black Cat, harbinger of the death of all living things, to fire dark bolts of accursed lightning.

Happy Tabby - The Crazy Cat Lady uses a Happy (albeit mildly abused) Tabby to radiate feelings of bliss to her foes, lowering their defenses.

    Catfu

In the most desperate of times, not even an unending hail of cats can be assured of destroying all enemies before they come within melee range. It is for these dire emergencies, that many a Crazy Cat Lady (or Man) feels compelled to train in hand to cat combat.

Blessed Claws - Harden your cat's claws so that they do more damage when impacting a foe.

Cat Cough - Have one of your sick cats cough on a foe, giving them a nasty respiratory infection.

I.E. Charged bolt by itself was a pretty useless skill for a sorc at higher levels
What a crazy thing to say! Charged Bolt always has been and is viable.

At 20/20/20, it deals a potential 2561 damage. At long range, you can expect at least 1/3 to 1/2 of them to hit.

The most depressing feature of it, is it maxes out at a measly little 24 bolts. 24! How pitiful is that? It depresses me forever.

It's not a rockstar skill, but it's in the neighborhood of Bone Spear, for fewer points.

Now Magic Arrow... really wish they'd adjust the numbers on that one. I guess it's not that fun to use so they don't want to encourage its use. Even a tiny tiny bit...

Those were only the initial 3D renders of the characters. They then took a bunch of low-res pictures of the 3D model in various poses (running, walking, turning, casting in every direction) and turned them in to animations. (So, there aren't any true 3D characters in the game- it's been referred to as "2.5D" by some.) A higher screen resolution would not make them look better- only more blocky by contrast or really, really small.
Though I think it'd be wonderful if they actually rendered out the 3d assets at a higher res and offered it as an option. It'd make a massive difference to how the game looks; it'd look freaking awesome and not poopy at all.
Anyway, the bottleneck is the optional MPQ would be something like 500 MB and someone would actually have to add support for the video mode and scale the X and Y value of mouse input.... But not an impossible herculean task by any measure. The real sticking point, is where's the profit in there.

The backdrops also use a higher bitrate. For observers who want to see more of the pretty. The wolves are so adorably goofy looking.

Nah, PlugY has 10x10 per page, with a couple rows worth of space used for flipping pages.

Your character, in-game, could look like this. Now tell me, is that not the most beautiful thing you've ever seen?

Heck, one change I'd super love is.... if they'd put the waypoints at the start of the zone they way-in. I'm very very sick of playing Where's Waldo with those things. I just want to live, but not live like an animal..

The doubled storage the expansion offered isn't active in classic. It was one of the big selling points of LoD, but by this point it's just them being jerks. Most other changes to the core game (synergies, monster stats) are active in it.

It's your choice to not play with a thousand charms jamming up your inventory and ridiculous rune words and pokemons with auras, not McDonald's or Captain Winslow's.

That's weird, because over here pc games are ?50,- mostly, and console games usually ?60,-.. If you look at the difference between the euro and the dollar, I feel like I'm getting ripped off

You're totally getting ripped off to the max.

If you compare what the Chinese pay for games though, we're all getting ripped off to the max to the extreme.

Regardless, I ask, what the hell -is- wrong with cookie cutter builds, Diablo 3 team?

That it takes them work to make all these skills so they might as well try to get them all used? It'd be a travesty if no Wizards made use of Acid Cloud.

Besides, Diablo II right now is more a straight jacket than a cookie oven. Playing a sorceress really sucks sometimes; you have a passive mastery skill, an active skill, and usually a booster or two to that skill, so it's often outright impossible to max damage on two skills from two separate trees.

And as a Diablo game, yeah AoE skills will be by far the best outside of boss fights. But it looks like every skill tree so far will have at least one, and sure one of them will always be the best in any given patch by some amount, but the variety of theme and looks is there and and and

.....it'll be another two years until this comes out, won't it? God I'm too old.

You can already see how they plan to work this: low level skills will be kind of sucky, but a passive skill later on will upgrade it. Such as those skills that add more projectiles to Magic Missile, and Charged Bolt, multiplying their damage an order of magnitude.

In essence, there won't be skills that strictly supersede an earlier one; in this system there wouldn't be a Firebolt and Fireball, simply a Firebolt that would upgrade to have an explosion added to it.

The Amazon's lazy elemental arrow attacks come straight to mind to how little variety we truly had, and how much better things could be.

Also you can kind of wonder if they're going to overhaul Diablo II something like this in the next patch. Hrm.
