That is a pathetic diablo body =/ sorry, I dont know if I can take that seriously, do I kill it? or ask it out on a date -.- and maybe feed it something to eat.

It needs to be beefier I think ( but not chubby )
haha. i agree. I really hope that whoever came up with that concept crunched it up into a paper ball and threw it into a waste basket along with all the other bad ideas that will never see the day of light.

thats kind of like how i pictured him too. but like you said not as scrawny.

all i know is .. rewatching the teaser and replaying the scene where he yells... i'm amazed at how well they made him look. Whatever look they were going for.. they really pull it off. i'm really curious to see how they'll the rest of him will come together.

i'm uploading a slow motion video of diablo 3's cinematic teaser scene so we can get a good look at him.

ya i've been wondering if he'd be on all fours or bypedal...
but I find his head would look awkward on a cerebus like body.
i know at times we see diablo 2's diablo on all fours (especially when he moves/chases you).. but for the most part... like in diablo 1 he's standing up on his hind legs.

So I've been meaning to make fan art of diablo as depicted in d3. but i'm stumped as to how to make his body look.
simply placing his head over the diablo 2's body would just look silly.

so i was wondering how you guys envisioned the rest of his body to look like.
i take it it will have a more humanoid shape as opposed to the dragon/dinosaur shape we see in diablo2.
it'll probably resemble diablo 1's body more.

ACT4 = entirely blackish gray... and act 3 was pretty darn dark as well especially in the sewers. Act 2 wasn't very colorful... its was primarily sand colored.

    Personally:
I think the background needs to be dark especially inside catacombs, cathedrals, and in hell. Outdoors I think colors are fine the way blizzard have them in D3 so far.
But your character and monsters should stand out and remain colorful. That's especially the case for your character, less so for monsters- if monsters have a similar gradient of colors it helps us differentiate players from monsters (it will depend on the type of monster).
If you look at Chaos Sanctuary the background was very dark and only had like one shade of dark gray.
    Here's a video of chaos sanctuary: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...43278133099279

There are still plenty of colors, but the colors serve as identifiers for the player to better recognize what is happening on the playing field. the brighter and more varied the colors are the easier it is for us to see whether or not our enemy is frozen, struck and poisoned... and whether we are on fire, poisoned, cursed etc... It is also easier to recognized these things against a saturated/colorless backdrop.
The colors help guide the eye as to what is happening on the playing field. If everything was washed out we'd have difficulty understanding what's happening.
So the environment and monsters in their original state are very grayish black.. its mainly when they are frozen, poisoned or casting spells that color appears.
In the context of act 4 of course. There are more colors in act1 2 and 5.

What I find interesting is how cool bright colors look on a dark backdrop, and how it really gives a scary, gore-like atmosphere.

I also think the player's light radius should play a equivalent role in diablo 3. It's really scary when you can't see much pass your light radius. I also think the devs should work more with lighting. I don't mind colors but they need to be near light sources. Areas that aren't illuminated should remain dark/less colorful. So outside in the daylight it should be colorful, while dungeons should be dark and the light radius surrounding your character and light sources should determine the level of brightness and color revealed around them.

posted a message on Possibility of Hell & Heaven Factions?
I don't think we should give up hope too quickly.
The game shouldn't have factions until the last act. The last act (which will be let's say act5) is where factions will play themselves out. The last act will be divided into two main bases, heaven's outpost and hell's outpost. These two starting locations will serve as the encampment for the heaven and hell factions. The two locations are seperated by a vast territory. Most of the territory dividing the two bases will be designated for only one faction. This will help prevent the opposing factions from crossing one another's path too often, which is undesirable if all your after is loot and leveling. So each faction will have their own quests in places that won't be accessible by the opponent faction. However there will be areas and quests in which factions will be able to meet and duke it out. This will only represent a small fraction of the quests. But these quest may be repeated indefinitely allowing players to capitalize off of the faction duality as much as possible if they may so choose to.
In between both the heaven and hell domain will be a bunch of waypoints to get through from one end to the other as you near either end the terrain will look more and more bright or dark depending in which direction you're going. Until on one end the hell factions will face the angelic council, while on the other the heaven faction will meet Diablo and his most fierce minions.

How to deal with the shortage of players per game:
I think that instead of having to go back to the battle.net lobby, you could access it in the middle of your game and either join or post games in it without having to return to the lobby. So you could press a key lets say G for "game" and a window will pop up with plenty of features, for game types.
In this window you could look at all the games people have made which ask for a specific quest or challenge, one which might involve a faction vs faction duel.
There would be plenty of features for you to make very specific games. For example if you want to make a room only to trade, there would be a series of game type tabs, and your game would be listed under the trade tab. This would help sparse a lot of the clutter trading games from the actual questing games.
While faction oriented game would have their own tab.

Diablo never had a solid pvp framework. The blizzard community had to find it's own dueling ground so we dueled just outside of the rogue encampment... There was no designated area to duel. It was sorta “makeshift”, left to the players to improvise and figure out on their own.

Will this be another game you can breeze through in a few days, or will it be drawn out longer? Yes, the random loot and dungeons extends the replay value and life of the game well beyond that, but will we be left feeling empty after defeating Diablo with no true goal other than to level up your character? Once we finish the game what can will look forward to? I think factions will help fill this hole.

Why wouldn't you want it to be the standard gameplay mode? I would not want to have diablo 3 be an identical replica of diablo 2 with just a different story and a normal nightmare and hell mode in which you revist the same content three times over.
I'd prefer a story filled with a captivating and long enough story line to keep you interested throughout all the levels up to level 90. To do this you need twist and turns in the story. Debating between good and evil, becoming inducted into a faction (knighted), and playing a significant role in either faction. And a final battle that will truly test player's skills and teamwork.

And I don't know any better to do this then to really make the players play a significant role in the story line, Being Captains and Generals in the game, and being Diablo's bodyguard. Or maybe even be given the status of arch angel on the heaven faction.
What better way to bring closure to the diablo series then to play such a pivotal role in the game on either side.

Would you like to see factions make an appearance in Diablo 3?
Brief summary of factions (rephrasing the obvious): Factions are a group of persons with a common goal or disposition who get together to form a cohesive unit working together to further their cause. In the context of diablo the mortals in the world of sanctuary would be split into either the good or evil faction/stratosphere. Heaven and Hell would then joust over the faith of both worlds by recruiting as many mortal heroes to their respective side.

Before you vote, note that the addition of factions does not necessitate a complete overhaul of the diablo gaming structure. Quite the contrary very little needs to be changed. I used to think it could only be done in an MMO framework, but now I am more confident that factions can be included without making any major altercations to the game. I also think that if we put our minds together we can develop something that could enable us to easily integrate factions into the game.

In the following link you will find a list of suggestions for factions:
    http://www.diablofans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5579

Let me know what your thoughts are or if you have suggestions of your own.

How it would fit into the storyline:
To my knowledge all mortals in the World of Sanctuary are Nephalem, as pointed out in this excerpt taken from the Diablo wiki website:
The Nephalem, being born of Angels and Demon, were found to be quite powerful. Lilith planned to use their power to build an army, but Inarius fought against her and used the Worldstone to nerf the human's powers, so that each successive generation became less and less powerful. He wanted control over them, not anyone else.
Having been born from parents that occupy polar moral mindsets, mortals are trapped in a state of moral uncertainty. Mortals are born neutral, so during the course of their lives they struggle with the dilemma of having to choose the type of moral fiber they wish to be defined by. Should they act recklessly, incontinent, be inconsiderate, villainous and relish in atrocities? Or should they act with prudence, self restraint, justice, and good will?
The Council made a pact with the oldest of the Prime Evils, Mephisto, that he would leave Sanctuary untouched in exchange for the traitor Inarius (who created Sanctuary, an act forbidden by the Council). Sanctuary was then left in the hands of the humans, with their memories wiped, allowing them to grow from the beginning. Each individual is left to decide either to live by the light or the dark.
Gaining the allegiance of mortals "is seen as the ultimate means to gain the upper hand over the forces of Heaven (or Hell) and win the Great Conflict". This is the grand goal for both factions... the entire story will revolve around this theme.

And now that the WorldStone is destroyed and the two worlds seek to capitalize off humans, now is a pivotal and crucial time for humans to decide which side to join.

This is why I think the diablo series lays out the perfect setting for the inclusion of factions in diablo 3.

I prefer something in between. I don't want the game to be too washed out. Nor do I want it too dark. Diablo 2 wasn't all that dark there was in fact quite a bit of color. For example games like metal gear solid 4 and Armored Core 4 are both very washed out (They only make use of a single grayish shade of color).

I also think darkening should be location specific. For example, it should take place in the cathedral, not necessarily in the outdoors where it is okay for it the be bright and colorful. I think there are areas that are supposed to be dark while other locations can help provide a bit of variety by keeping a wide range of colors... so that we get a real sense of horror when we do enter a location that ought to be dark and scary. For example entering deep inside a gloomy forest should be dark. but upon stepping outside there should be signs of a luscious natural environment.
So the mainland should remain as is. while specific locations or Acts (like act 4 in d2) should focus on darker & gloomier environments.

I think the following picture provides a good rendition of what I'd like to see. Something in the middle:

The thing is all this time we've been waiting we've been imagining our own version of the perfect D3. we've all had very high expectations. So it's impossible for d3 to satisfy all our wishes.

And for the most part its constructive criticism. The developers love feedback.

Most of the complaints and rants do not indicate any dislike of diablo 3 as a whole. It's simply a show of some disinclination towards some element(s) of the game.

posted a message on How Factions wShould Be Determined.
Bumping an old thread of mine.
Now that diablo 3 is out, it seems pretty certain that we won't be seeing factions get added to the game. D3 online will offer nothing more than co-opt mode. Sure i don't doubt that there will be many new features. Surely battle.net will provide plenty of new interactive tools. But online mode doesn't seem to be getting the sort of remodeling I was hoping for.

I have to admit however that blizzard made a good and safe decision by staying true to the diablo series insofar as not creating another MMO and keeping it a hack and slash action rpg. I've thought long and hard about ways to turn diablo into an MMO... and it really cannot be done without completely destroying the main premise of the story. MMOs require that all the players be equally powerful. Sanctuary is comprised primarily of weaklings in which heroes are a rare occurrence. So a world teeming with thousands of heroes at one time would be a major stretch. Then again the Worldstone was designed to weaken mortals. Upon each new generation of mortals their forces would be further weakened. But now that the Worldstone has been destroyed, mortals might rediscovered their original powers. Mortals are the Nephalem (cross breeds between angels and demons) after all.
But even if they could reshape diablo into an MMO from a story point of view. The gameplay itself would have to deviate significantly from diablo and fans would have difficulty digesting such a makeover. There are just too many ways for an MMO to ruin the authentic Diablo gameplay we've all come to adore.

But I still think we can squeeze in factions without making a big leap in changes. The developers do have plans to fill diablo 3's online facet with features that will set it apart from the single player mode. These features will need to be very compelling because battle.net will be the main incentive for players (and especially piraters) to purchase the game. Piraters will be able to play the single player game easily, only players with a legit serial key will be able to play online. This means that the experience you get online should be far more enriching than the single player version.
So factions could be one such online feature.
Adding things like the diablo event and Uber quest really helped prolongue the populary of diablo 2. Similarly, I think factions and the events that grow around it will help make end game play more fun.
In this genre there tends to be little to do once you've completed the game. You're force to revisit the world over and over again to find loot and duel. I think factions can fill this void and extend the lifespand of the game.

posted a message on I completely agree with this guy!!
Bump, this is an old post that I think addresses serious issues in D2 and I was wondering what the newcomers thought about them.

If diablo 3 is anything short of 100% hack proof I'll be highly disappointed. I can foresee a few mistakes here and there that hackers might abuse but I want a faster response to these hackers. And I really hope the code is structured in such a way that dupes never appear in D3. I've been playing FlagShip Studio's Mythos Beta for some time and no one has been able to dupe anything. Each item has an i.d. tag and there can't be two items with the same i.d. tags in the game, across all of the servers.

"It seem we are cursed. even in victory, we face defeat. although the heroes destroyed baal, the angel tyreal has delivered grave news. An object of great power that he calls the worldstone was held in secret at the mountain's summit, and it had been corrupted by Baal. He believes the only option open to him is to destroy it. I know too little of this Worldstone and what powers it may hold to guess what might come of this, but I fear our actions may scar the world in ways we cannot know. I pray tyreal is making the right choice." - Deckard Caine, 10th day of Navan, 1266 Anna Kehjirtani. (page 30 of Caine's Diary)
I believe Tyreal intentionally destroyed the Worldstone (the barrier dividing hell and heaven and the only wall of defense protecting the world of Sanctuary).
It can't be a good decision to destroy it. I prefer a corrupt worldstone than none what so ever.

I agree that we need more darkness and less of a warcraft look. But I also don't want something that is completely opaque and looks like armored core 4 or metal gear solid 4, where everything is in the same shade.
I want a variety of shades but in a more nightmarish atmosphere. I like the environment so far. But the environment's theme would stand out a lot more in darker and grudgyer tones.

My favorite touch up is this one (it reached a nice middle ground between too grey and too colorful):
