Or you could have as much of a chance of getting a goblin pack before the rift guardian as after...
Has it ever been stated that there's a better chance of getting goblins or goblin packs after the guardian? No. We're just left with anecdotal evidence.
If your limiting factor is fragments fine; clear the rifts. If your limiting factor is time, you're going to get the most bang for your buck by closing the rift directly after the guardian.
Specific legs - Grifts past 35 until you run out of Trial stones.... Then T6 rifts.
Legs/hr - Grits
Xp/hr - Grifts
You have the same chance of getting a good rift on level one as level 10. Gearing up you want to go for specific legendaries so closing the rift makes more sense as you have a better chance of getting the piece you want using bloodshards than getting them off a random drop.
Honestly, I never really had this problem gearing up.... Do you have M6 yet? If not, you should probably stay out of T6. You can't really facetank things either as a DH... Stuff hurts.
One thing you need to remember... top DH's are going to be significantly higher paragon than you so they'll probably have some points into life/hit and life/sec
Interesting... I might try this out. Although then I'd have to reroll the cluster arrow damage I have :/ If dazzling arrow wasn't terrible I'd probably try that, but it is unfortunately.
I recently stumbled upon a decently rolled ancient Uskang with 18% lightning damage on it... On top of that I've also got an ancient SoJ with 20% lightning damage on it and a decently rolled hellfire with lightning damage on it. Oh and don't forget the ancient Thundergod's with 15% lightning damage on it sitting in my stash.
Now currently my gear is fairly mediocre, with only 38% increased physical damage, which gives me approximately 1.8m elite physical dps. Swapping to lightning would get bring me to 87% increased lightning damage and an additional 12% increased elite damage. The only problem is, there doesn't seem to be any good lightning builds...
So, should I just wait until I get more phyiscal pieces and be happy with my 38-41~ grifts or should I be swap over to a lightning build?

Its really not that bad if you do a split farm. The other day we were able to get keys for 10 machines in about an hour.

That doesn't really help if you've fired and the CA is in transit when reflect comes up
I guess I"ll live with it proccing awareness nearly every time.

In the 40's it seems like I'm nearly one shotting myself any time I come up against a with reflect...
What's worse is when it pairs up with Jailer or Thunderstorm and I can't even see when reflect is up because I'm kiting them offscreen.
Am I missing something here?

Don't buy a 970... There are way too many issues surrounding the card.
That being said... you could run onboard with the games you play and be fine.
