    Slick,
You mentioned that "maybe the announcement is that they are retiring the franchise" statement is incredibly bogus.

First of all, Blizzard has never said that they are announcing a game at Blizzcon.

Secondly, you don't need a team of 40 people to retire a project.

You guys need to stop going off on all of these tangents. Don't get a piece of information and mico-analyze it until it becomes irrelevant. Take whatever information is given, and use some common sense. Lets be a little more reasonable here.

Maybe they do have a team of 40 people working to retire the franchise.

Just think about it. Blizzard Entertainment hires 40 assassins to wipe out everyone who has ever worked on Diablo.

    Run NicoV! Run!!!!!

posted a message on Diablo 3 aka "Hydra" Rumour
I have read through a lot of the in-topic posts and did a lot of research of my own. I have determined that the Hydra rumor may very well be true. If you remember in Diablo 2, you were to go out and destroy the prime evils and their soulstones before they had a chance to fuse together. Diablo's and Mephisto's soulstones were destroyed, Baal's was not. But this does not matter, the Worldstone was destroyed. The Worldstone was the device that seperated the realities of Earth, Heaven and Hell. With the seperation of realities gone, their is no need to destroy soulstones, because it is them which we need. Diablo and Mephisto would be back, where did you think they went, Kansas? They were sent to hell, but the Baal took care of that problem, and now Earth, Heaven and Hell are on the same plain of reality, and now none of the previous rules exist. Expect anything.

To save a lot of time, Hydra refers to the near invincible form of the fused Prime and Lesser Evils (there all alive again). The end mission would probably be to destory (seperate) the Hydra form, then fend off the 3 prime evils and 4 lesser evils at the same time while sticking in the soulstones one at a time. Then a new Worldstone is erected, and the process may repeat itself.

I think is is odd that Deckard Cain suggested destroying the Soulstones, and it is his advice that made the most devastation. One of the NPCs in Act 1 said that Cain was acting funny the last they heard. I am convinced that Cain was is being manipulated by Belial. Perhaps that has ceased.

This is all Speculation. I did my best with the time I had. I may have it all wrong.

I do belive that it is going to follow the Greek Mythology story has previously stated, it goes hand in hand with the main task. You would be the Hercules of the game. To everyone who belives that Blizzard would not dig this deep for a story, you must realize how many were dissapointed by the lack of story in the first two games (not me). There is just not enough useable material in the Exeter Book to keep fueling the game.

I do have one interpretation to offer. Hydra and chthonic serpents are interchangable. Chthonic serpents are often associated with sacred trees.

So I believe this story will take you back to the Cairn Tree in Rogue Pass, and possibly back to the Cathedral in the first game. The original post-Diablo search in Diablo 2 was not very thorough. I certainly hope this happens. :)
