I get that they need to make money somehow, but I really hope that they'll stay true to their word and NOT introduce any kind of MTX that allows for faster progression, increased drops, better access to key aspects of the gameplay, etc. There's a fine line. In my opinion they're balancing well with that in a game like World of Warcraft and they always have. I've played WoW (and the Diablo series) since forever and I've never felt that I 'need' to spend extra money on 'pay to win elements' in WoW. There's a right way of doing things and there's a wrong way of doing things.
Let's hope that we don't see another Diablo Immoral disaster - the greediest game ever made. - And it saddens me to think that some actually 'enjoy' that sorry excuse for a game and 'don't mind' that kind of monetization scheme - that stuff must NOT be allowed to be 'the new normal'. Those who speak well of that game have, to put it frankly, been brainwashed. Anyway, have a nice day.

I am legitimately concerned that at one point such practices will become the 'new normal' and that real old school gaming will be a thing of the past. It might take an entire generation for this to happen but we're half way there already. Really - please everyone, keep your eyes open! - Slowly, but surely the scenery might change and we might end up in a place that a decade or two ago we'd never even consider a potential reality. Don' let such malicious practices seep in, like an odorless, colorless slow working poison!

It's not a game, it's a slot machine. I suppose what you're really asking sarcastically is, "Don't you have a phone?" .. :-]
They CHOSE to insult their fanbase so profoundly, hopefully now with the (temporary?) China ban they'll have to make some adjustments, because the game was in very large part made for the Chinese market where this kind of monetization scheme is much more accepted and now without that potential revenue stream they'll have to rely on other markets. I actually really hope this game gets outright banned in China, perhaps that'll make them think twice.

There's no excuse for being so insanely and over-the-top greedy about it. Yeah, we all understand that they need to make money somehow but the community is reacting to the way that they're doing it, and not the fact that they're monetizing their efforts. I'd happily throw in a few bucks now and then, only fair .. but this .. they could've chosen a more sensible approach but instead they chose to alienate a huge chunk of their fanbase, squeezing the players for as much money as possible in every possible way, not to mention actually ruining the gameplay experience along with it with all their constant reminders to spend real money and by paygating content. This is not a game, this is a slot machine. All praise to the talented artists that did the artwork and all that, but perhaps they should take their talent elsewhere because this monetization scheme is an insult to the artists and to everyone else.
The artists who did all that hard work were USED in a very sinister way, it is not the 'game designers' that are to blame, many good artists were involved, hoping that their labor would yield good fruit, this is all about executive decisions, the good artists involved were thoroughly USED by men in suits and this is a complete disgrace. A shameful thing, shame on you for this, Blizzard!
If any young programmer or game designer reads this; - Well, do NOT work for this company if there's any chance that they're liable to do you over in such a way, your life is your own, your heart is yours and you must utilize your efforts in a productive way.
If you haven't understood it yet; - They want your blood!
Let's just hope that Diablo IV will be an actual game. Meanwhile, there's always D2R or D3.

The first legendary I've found (I'm lvl 34)! Well .. I ABSOLUTELY BELIEVE THAT THIS WAS NOT 'LUCK' - the game has BUILT IN ALGORITHMS for this stuff - I'm someone that's not really playing the game atm - so they want to HOOK ME back in this way. It's not random at all, your rewards are 'weighed' up against various factors based on your player profile.
It's almost as if a GM was standing right there next to me as he noticed that I ran out into the wilderness .. 'Hm, you haven't been playing much lately, have you? - Here, take this! - Perhaps that'll make you return to the game!'
Sad state of affairs because as much as I'm not someone who subscribe to 'conspiracy theories' or anything like that, It'd really not surprise me if this is exactly what happened. I absolutely wouldn't put it past Blizzard implementing something like this into the game code at this point. We shouldn't accept such tactics to be 'the new normal' guys. Let's just hope that D4 will actually be a real game.
