Thats the spin, you're the hero, but you must work with the dark side to fix their mistake in order to save the world. There will still be good guys, you just have to kill some of them lol.
I foresaw it as you start at someplace, a holy ground, then as the plot unfolds you venture to hell, act 2. Then you would have to venture the earth to find the heroes, act 3. In my book, I had act 4 as a rebuilt Tristram in dedication to Decard Cain, but I spose they could have it set sooner after D2 took place and have him still living, I threw that in above.
Act 5 would be short, assuming it would be called that. You'd go back to hell and help the Cult open a portal to the arcane Netherworld where you seek Diablo's remaining corrupted soul and bring it back to hell, where yo fight him.
I wouldnt let the final boss be no brother of Diablo lol.

I actually wrote a fan-fic about d3. Diablo died, but not all of his followers. The cult of followers meddled with arcane magicks in order to bring Diablo back to life, piecing together parts of the world stone, and parts of the tree brothers themselves. But the power of that alone wasnt enough and the resurection backfired on the world, decaying it.
The spirit of Diablo was summoned, but with no body of his own, it infected every living thing on heaven and earth.
The weak succumbed to the hate of diablo.
And as the new hero learns, he will have to work with Diablo's cult members in order to provide Diablo with a body, for as long as he resides in every living thing, it decays until eventually, there is nothing left.
But as you venture on you (the hero) realize why the cult failed. Not only did the body parts of Diablo's blood connection need to be present at the rebirth, but also the strong links that kept him from this world, as well as those that took him out of it. Forcing you to seek out and kill the heroes who slayed Diablo, Decard Cain, even Tyreal himself.
But what of Diablo once he is resurected?
Follow your path of darkness in order to save the world...
I like the act system, it would be nice to have it set up like that again, assuming it wont have a more free world based system like wow or eq. (way too long to fly places lol)
But the interesting thing about this would be you could choose your quest path. Ressurect Diablo to fight him and save the world, or Ressurect Diablo to kill him and become the new Dark Lord.
