Doesn't comfort me at all... Blizzard Irvine is the ruiner of all things good.

Is this based soley on the fact that HGL sucked?

To this day I still can not fathom the ignorance of the masses who jumped to the insane conclusion that since some of the developers from D2 worked on Hellgate, henceforth Hellgate is D3.

Equally absurd is the idea that only the developers of D2 can make D3. May very well turn out that D3 is everything D2 should have been, but now 10x better. Nor is there any thought that quite possibly the D2 team could have made a worse clone of D3. Keep in mind that their original work was trashed, and the new team started from scratch. We have know way of knowing just how awfuly they could have made D3.

Besides, these are not great pieces of art now are they, they are just video games.

Their original work was not trashed. Here is some insight (that I stole from another thread) from a former Blizzard North employee who comments on what Blizzard Irvine has done with Diablo 3 on his blog (scroll down some).

    http://www.mikehuang.com/blog/

"some of the concepts we were developing definitely looks like it made it through to the version of the game they displayed," he says.

He does go on, however, to state that they also made some decisions that counter what the original Diablo team would have done. In any case, D3 will have some influence from Blizz North and that comforts me.

Edit: Forgot to link the blog.

posted a message on Tal Rasha Tentacles
Why does he have them? They look like the equivalent of Tyrael's wings only zombified. The cinematics described Tal Rasha as a mage not an angel. Were they created by Baal? Does anyone know from other sources other than the game? Is this just one of those lore questions that doesn't have an answer?

To anyone who has an answer, thank you for satisfying my curiosity.

    Annoyed indeed.

I think you'll see an option to have it displayed or not though. WoW had the option for it's floating combat text, I can only imagine they'd follow suit for this game.

Yeah, I saw the Ign review for that game. (6.8 out of 10)

Phew, that could have easily been Diablo 3.

I don't know how you can make that statement. Hellgate was a completely different IP made by some of the Blizzard North folks. I'd be willing to bet a large sum of money that if Blizzard North were here today (as it was) and were developing D3 it would be just as good or better than what Blizzard is currently developing. I mean they obviously didn't just get lucky. Diablo 1 was a total success and they came back again with Diablo 2 and blew us all away again.

So yeah, I am very sad their studio is going under. Not as sad as I was the day Blizzard North ceased to exist though.

posted a message on D3 Auction House?
I think it's a pretty good idea. You would be able to view the AH from your main battle.net screen. It should be able to set up trades as well. Like you could list an item you are looking to trade and people could PM you or some shit.

Secondly, do you have a statistic of how many people sit on the "short" option of that?

The only reason I set mine to short is because there are times when the amount of bodies on the ground becomes too many to distinguish dead from living. Has nothing to do with game performance and my system is nothing to brag about.

This may either be intentional do to CPU usage, or may have a slider under the video options menu.

I didn't think about that. Dawn of War had one, I should have remembered. Hopefully this is the case.

At least have the ground open up and the slain monsters getting sucked down into hell or something, it just seems cheap to have the corpses fade away after 10 seconds.

That's not a bad idea. Anything is better than them just vanishing. Kinda like the corrupted Amazon chicks in D2 had that burning into ash animation when they died. Things like that could be an alternative to the corpses that I could deal with. I still feel like some blood splatters should be permanent though.

I don't think this has been covered yet, if it has my bad.

I mentioned this in the input thread for Blizzard, but it was probably over looked considering what happened to that thread. In any case my suggestion is that the corpse despawn time be lengthened. From what I gathered from the game play video it is somewhere around 10 seconds. I'd really like to stand in piles of slain monsters or at least the blood of slain monsters (blood splatters should definitely be permanent). Killing 50 monsters and having the ground be spick and span immediately after doesn't seem right to me, nor does it seem fitting for a Diablo game.

I thought maybe they did this so as to not slow the game down with unnecessary rendering, but then I thought that if it could render them while moving around without problems then stationary shouldn't be an issue. I think...

So, anyone agree this aspect needs some work? Think there should be some evidence of that last corridor where you were ambushed by countless ghouls, zombies, and cultists, yet dispatched of them all in a not so friendly manner?

    I most certainly do.

Oh, and http://infoceptor.net/strategy/diablo2/walkthrough/mission22/shot3.jpg is a link to some random picture I found of Diablo II corpses and blood splatters. I want it to be like this!

The Tristram music is to this day one of the best bits of music to ever bless a video game (or any media for that matter) imo. Thanks Matt, I sure hope that I can look forward to hearing your tunes in D3.

I did not read this entire thread so this may have been said already. But maybe she is a character that only exists in cinematics for story telling purposes, like Marius.
