Sep 21, 2010Olster posted a message on Level 60 capLevel cap is arbitrary. It could be 60 or it could be 500. When it's 60, as Bash, claims it works well with increasing your power each time you level. If it were 500 you'd get levels every few minutes and be getting minuscule improvements each time -- this would be ultra lame. 99 doesn't work for D3 so we get 60... that's completely fine with me and to be honest the WoW comparisons here are really misplaced. Next people will be like "ZOMG I saw the color red in Diablo, but they used the color red in WoW too! WTF Blizzard stop cloning WoW!"Posted in: News

Sep 19, 2010Olster posted a message on How Soon is Soon™ - Part III sincerely hope for a summer 2011 release, but I can't help thinking about PVP and Battle.net. They haven't released any information on their progress with these things, and they could delay the game if they haven't gotten very far yet. I hope this is not the case, maybe we'll find out at BlizzCon.Posted in: News

Jul 30, 2008Olster posted a message on Diablo 3 Multiplayer To Be EncouragedPosted in: NewsQuote from "Daaavid" »I never liked playing diablo in single player mode, i just played in the times i got Real Down and coudnt connect to b.net.
Most of the issues of this thread are irrelevant for me, the ONLY REAL WORRY i have is about the anti cheat system of b.net2 (particularly the anti dupe system).
Dupes are the most annoying cheat that ever existed in b.net, totally ruins the economy of the game and its quite ridiculous to see so many people with expensive runewords like enigma, call to arms, LAST WISH etc.
I know its impossible to get rid of cheaters, but if blizzard doesnt commit themselves to avoid cheating after a few years of D3 launch (when the game stops to give a nice profit) i won't even think in buying D3.
Recently, after D3 announce and the ladder reset, i started playing D2 again but didnt took a month for me to quite playing for the same reason, DUPES. Whats the point of playing fair if u have to play for a whole month and sell ALL the gear you found in this period to get a rune that is probably duped?
I bet my D2 account that its the cheating that makes the most people dislike online playing.
I would like to type a little more but i dont speak english very well, i'm sorry if i was a little
incomprehensible
They are much better at managing servers and people on the servers now. I think their experience with WoW will allow them to be much more pro active against cheating. I'm willing to bet that Bnet will have strict rules against cheating and will be enforced. They will most likely make it impossible to cheat/dupe, hopefully anyway. -
Jul 30, 2008Olster posted a message on Diablo 3 Multiplayer To Be EncouragedI plan on playing through the game on single player first to experience it all at my own pace. I hope though, that I will be able to then transfer my single player toon to the battle.net servers. That would be cool.Posted in: News

Jul 21, 2008Olster posted a message on Bashiok Answers Gameplay Video ConcernsPosted in: NewsQuote from "Medievaldragon" »
A good example of us paying attention though was the concern and thread about corpses not sticking around long enough. I read that thread, brought it up, and some discussion was happening on it. Later our lead tech artist Julian was reading through the replies, and got some ideas of how we may want to keep corpses on screen a little longer. Now we're playing around with some changes that shouldn't have a huge performance hit, while still keeping the corpses on screen for variable amounts of time. Hopefully it works out.
Is he talking about diablofans.com forums or just forums in general? If diablofans then I made that thread, or one of them anyway if there is more than one.

I'm gonna pretend that I influenced them whether it be true or not, makes me feel cool. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Is this based soley on the fact that HGL sucked?

Their original work was not trashed. Here is some insight (that I stole from another thread) from a former Blizzard North employee who comments on what Blizzard Irvine has done with Diablo 3 on his blog (scroll down some).
http://www.mikehuang.com/blog/
"some of the concepts we were developing definitely looks like it made it through to the version of the game they displayed," he says.
He does go on, however, to state that they also made some decisions that counter what the original Diablo team would have done. In any case, D3 will have some influence from Blizz North and that comforts me.
Edit: Forgot to link the blog.

To anyone who has an answer, thank you for satisfying my curiosity.

I think you'll see an option to have it displayed or not though. WoW had the option for it's floating combat text, I can only imagine they'd follow suit for this game.

I don't know how you can make that statement. Hellgate was a completely different IP made by some of the Blizzard North folks. I'd be willing to bet a large sum of money that if Blizzard North were here today (as it was) and were developing D3 it would be just as good or better than what Blizzard is currently developing. I mean they obviously didn't just get lucky. Diablo 1 was a total success and they came back again with Diablo 2 and blew us all away again.
So yeah, I am very sad their studio is going under. Not as sad as I was the day Blizzard North ceased to exist though.

The only reason I set mine to short is because there are times when the amount of bodies on the ground becomes too many to distinguish dead from living. Has nothing to do with game performance and my system is nothing to brag about.

I didn't think about that. Dawn of War had one, I should have remembered. Hopefully this is the case.

That's not a bad idea. Anything is better than them just vanishing. Kinda like the corrupted Amazon chicks in D2 had that burning into ash animation when they died. Things like that could be an alternative to the corpses that I could deal with. I still feel like some blood splatters should be permanent though.

I mentioned this in the input thread for Blizzard, but it was probably over looked considering what happened to that thread. In any case my suggestion is that the corpse despawn time be lengthened. From what I gathered from the game play video it is somewhere around 10 seconds. I'd really like to stand in piles of slain monsters or at least the blood of slain monsters (blood splatters should definitely be permanent). Killing 50 monsters and having the ground be spick and span immediately after doesn't seem right to me, nor does it seem fitting for a Diablo game.
I thought maybe they did this so as to not slow the game down with unnecessary rendering, but then I thought that if it could render them while moving around without problems then stationary shouldn't be an issue. I think...
So, anyone agree this aspect needs some work? Think there should be some evidence of that last corridor where you were ambushed by countless ghouls, zombies, and cultists, yet dispatched of them all in a not so friendly manner?
I most certainly do.
Oh, and http://infoceptor.net/strategy/diablo2/walkthrough/mission22/shot3.jpg is a link to some random picture I found of Diablo II corpses and blood splatters. I want it to be like this!
