Very Lame if you ask me.
Its almost their trying to force you to play as a pure caster but bringing in skill runes to diversify things but the only thing is its going to create is there will be 1 rune that goes with a skill that is OP and every build will use it.
Blizzard needs to change their way of thinking.
absolutly agree with this. My strongest diablo 2 character was a necromancer and oddly enough his weapon was a maul. i just never thought that the class weapons had enough stat boosters to compensate for their weakness.
The only way that i think that the extra focus on the new rune skill would be as good and probably better than the weapon thing would be if there was as much diversity in the runes as there are in weapons...doubt it but im keeping my fingers cross.
All I'm saying is, Bashiok doesn't deserve any credit for his comment. Sweet, he's talking to the community, but his text is there for nothing. A few lines would be saying the same thing.
Its no way as excessive as he says it is, unless their engine is so badly designed. According to him, it would mean even CUTTING some other features out. This sounds pretty ridiculous to me. I do understand that it takes -works- and all that, but he's pushing it.
The comment that "it is too time constraining when they could be spending that time on more important things like skill rune effects" only reiterates my fear that fear that weapons are loosing their significance.
I don't want to do the whole WoW vs Diablo converation but...
In WoW your weapon was more for stats to boost your spells more than the weapons itself. You would almost never auto attack it was spell after spell after spell.
In D2 your auto attack was still viable and necessary meaning your actual weapon was still necessary for more than its stats. I am afraid weapons will just become stat boosters like an amulet or helm. IMO in a DPS game weapons need to take main stage over spells. Spells should supplement your attacks not replace them as I am afraid they are doing.
Please dont get rid of "auto attack" hack/slash means weapons with spells not spells instead of weapons.
am not talking necessarily about damage. I guess I mean more of the sort that your relied on your auto attack in D2 for a lot of your damage where in WoW even the Warrior spammed his spells. Faster attack speed and damage are just more stats. I know this sounds contradictory but I am having a hard time getting my point across. It is just that auto attack and simplicity was a part of D2 and your weapon mattered. You could beat the game on normal without even putting a single point into a spell. Maybe thats a broken/bad feature but it made Diablo, Diablo.
I have a lvl 70 enhance shammy ( I stopped playing soon after WotLK). So I do understand a weapons importance. it is just that in WoW I worried more about getting a new spell than a new weapon. where as in Diablo I focused more on getting a new weapon than spells. Maybe it is just me. I just feel that weapons>spells in diablo (excluding hammerdins) where in WoW spells>weapons. Of course to casters it usually was just a stat booster but even with my sorc I was more excited about getting a better staff than finally being able to cast blizzard (is that wierd?). Maybe because the spells were set but the itme drops were randomized. Maybe in my own head it has nothing to do with game play and significance as much as I was happier to luckily get this better item that I might not have otherwise.IMO I don't want to get the most excited about a rune drop compared to a weapon. I don't want to be "ALRIGHT!! another multi-strike rune.. ohh and a better mace." I want "ALRIGHT!!! a better mace and look a rune I can use."
I think I'm going to miss "anything goes" weapon customization on characters. I know that most people don't play these types because they aren't really competive character builds but I remember when I first got Diablo 2 and my brother decided to play too.
He made a Paladin and would alternate between using a sword and bow/crossbow. It actually worked quite well for the time he used it although he got bored of the game by Act 3 Normal and quit. Anyways, I always thought what he did was sort of nifty and I'll be sad to see it gone. It was a pretty impractical feature I guess but it was still pretty fun. And not to mention, it also helped make the game just a little more immersive
I'm just not a fan of Restrictions like that.
Quote from "LordRayken" »Oh heres a good fucking idea, Blizzard.
How about spend your time DEVELOPING EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of the game anyone could ever want, rather than going...
"LOLZ WE'RE LAZY SO IF WE DEVELOP CLASSES USING EVERY WEAPON IT'D CUT INTO OTHER FEATURES."

Dont you have the resources to do WHATEVER you want and take as long as you want?

All I can see is a Diablo 3 less like the previous Diablo's and more like World of Warcraft and Activision. This is complete crap.

Ok, I'll bite. I can think of several reasons
- They have not finished the story in RoS, it's blatantly left open doesn't even have an ending cinematic. That's not like them at all, they are too polished for that.
- Adding to that, why would they spend an entirely new game devoted to events after RoS? They've said it before this is going to be wrapping up this saga in the Diablo universe
- If they are just starting a fourth game right now, do you honestly think people are going to hold out for years on just seasonal updates? Doubtful to me.
- Money, lots of money. If the options are expansion and fourth game, why only choose fourth game? That's leaving money on the table, money they know they can get from our crazy fanbase.

I haven't posted in a long time on this site, mostly lurk around, but it's fun to speculate so I thought I'd give my two cents:
I think first off the second expansion is already in the final stages and will be shown at either Gamescom with more details at Blizzcon or just at Blizzcon. They are now hiring for the next game in the series to start work on that. The expansion will conclude Diablo III and leave enough open for D4 to be bridged to. I've read people theorizing another class being released between now and the expansion, then a final class for the expansion which I think would be cool and a nice way to keep us happy until the second expansion.
I think the areas will be
Skovos - already have a bridge of it being mentioned from RoS, would make sense as a starting point for the next expansion
Ureh - since this acts as a bridge between both Heaven and Hell and it can tie into putting Leah's soul to rest. Also back during the original announcement of D3 they already had cinematics for Ureh, which leads me to believe it was already fleshed out just never put in.
Personally I think Inarius and Lilith will be a part of this storyline. The Nephalem have grown way too powerful. I could even see Imperius aligning with them since he hates the Nephalem so much. I think Tyrael will also struggle with his decision in supporting the humans/nephalem or possibly succumbing to corruption himself, after all don't forget he is human now.
