posted a message on What NEEDS to be different in d3
    Here's my ideas...

First off, I think that there should be some major changes in the way Diablo 3 is played... If we just have more items, more skills and more acts - couldn't we just have another expansion? Heheh!

Also, I feel that Diablo's main advantage over its competition is its replayability. So, I think that these suggestions might make for a game with almost infinite possibilities.

    Character Changes:
I agree that people should be able to choose their character's gender and appearance, but I don't think it should be as detailed or as elaborate as, say, The Sims 2 (otherwise, why not just go play that, then?)

Secondly, I think that everyone should start out as the same character class, and instead of having your character class determine what skills you can use, how about making it the other way around? The skills you choose determine your class. Let me explain it by using Diablo 2 as an example. (But it should be known that I am against reusing skills in Diablo 2 for Diablo 3. All new skills, or new skills derived from old ones sounds better.)

So anyway, to explain the above statement. Let's say we all start out as a "Novice" or something, then from there, all skill sets or skill trees in the game are available to you. It would of course be next to impossible to come up with a character class for each combination of skills that could possibly be made, so instead, let's take the three skill tabs rule of Diablo 2 into consideration. You still with me? Heheh! That means that if you select a skill from a certain skill set, that will be one of the three skill sets that you could choose skills from. So, let's say (in Diablo 2 terms) that you want the Elemental Skill tree of a Druid, and the Lightning Tree and the Cold Tree of the Sorceress, all other skill trees would no longer be available to you. Now, taking the above example into consideration, if you place skill points into these three trees in the order I put them down, your character class would evolve from "Novice" to "Elementalist" to "Weather Manipulator" to "Tempest" for example... (Of course, Blizzard could come up with better names) Also, if you decide to stick with one or two skill trees only, your character's class would retain the appropriate name.

If you understood all that, I imagine that the prospect would be very exciting to you. Imagine the possibilities! An ultradefensive character with Fade, Bone Armor and Cyclone Armor would be almost invincible. (Although, it'd also be able to kill nothing! Ha!)

    Item Changes:
The thing that I found most exciting in Diablo 2 was all the recipes available for the horadric cube. And, after reading earlier suggestions, I came up with this.

There should be items created by combining "raw ingredients" like 'Diablo's skin' (Heheh!) with all sorts of items, and each combination gives you a different item.

I also like the idea of giving out recipes in scrolls or quests, so that those who don't prefer to experiment with their rare ingredients have an alternative. Of course, not all recipes should be revealed.

One more thing - although I'm an advocate of major changes, I think that the cube should stay. Let's just say that you can find it in Deckard Cain's dead body somewhere in the middle of some quest. Heheh! It is after all, still the same "world".

    Quest Changes:
With the changes made above, there are also a few ways to improve the quests in Diablo 3. In fact, some of the changes above should be incorporated into quests, like I mentioned in the previous section.

First, quests should be more "choose your own adventure-y" Heheh! Different choices make for different outcomes. And also, when someone says "Time is of the essence", speed should be taken into consideration, and if you're too slow, you don't get the better rewards. Other things I'd like to see in quests are temporary allies, like if we pretend that Natalya (Act III Assassin-like NPC) joins you on you quest to find the Gidbinn, and then leaves right after. Heheh! That'd be fun. Finally, your character class should also affect the outcome of optional quests. Like if we have a quest where only someone with Telekinesis could finish it. But, it should of course, balance out, so that no character class could ever finish ALL the quests. This could also apply for specially crafted items, where only someone with a 'Diablo Skin Coat' could finish a certain quest.

    World Changes:
In addition to the changes stated above, I'd also like to see more interaction with the terrain. Let's not get limited to running, walking and jumping... People can also swim, wade, canoe/boat, fly (well, not really, but with sorcery, they should be able to), and do other stuff. (Okay, so people can skip, hop, and wiggle, but let's forget about the useless "skills". Heheh!)

And if they still have the time, after having to come up with names for so many different combinations of everything, they could also integrate the environment to some of the skills... Like, if a "Tsunami" skill is created, it should only work if there is water nearby, and "Fire skills" shouldn't be functional under water. This should make it even more challenging to come up with a build. If the term "build" isn't already wiped off the planet by then. (Coz of all the possibilities)

    Final:
With all these changes, I think Diablo 3 would last until the year 2050, and players would be just as excited to play it after playing it for 10 years, as they were the first time they did.

If you were able to read everything, then I congratulate you! Honestly, I wouldn't read this post if it were made by someone else either! Thanks for your attention, and I hope you like my ideas.... Heheh!
