Then someone will say "but the other games were dark and that is what made them great" or "this is our game we should be able to complain about it" or something to that effect and the cycle will begin again.

I love the idea of false entitlement.

posted a message on No support for modding...
I agree with you, Elfen Lied, I don't see why there is such hatred for modding. Even though Diablo 2 has been modded numerous times it has yet to effect closed Battel.net at all. Infact people need to host thier OWN closed battle.net server if they want the changes from their mod to take effect.

The only difference would be the Blizzard would be giving people the tools to make modding easier rather than people having to create work arounds.

Your mod will not effect closed online play. Hacks are different than mods. In Titan Quest the player hosted the server and your character was saved on your hard drive. On Battle.net, I think, your servers where hosted by Blizz and your characters were stored remotely giving you almost no access to hack them.

Don't compare the online play of TQ and Diablo 2. It would be more like TQ Online = Diablo 1 Online.

First of all people, retiring is different than quitting a job. You cannot work in the same field if you retire from it. If he quit then its either because hes sick of the art style or people there, or he is joining a new company. If he retired then hes done, plain and simple.

The interesting fact remains though that the job is open, and I am very suprised why someone INSIDE blizzard has not been promoted to it, and that they are hiring and outside source for such a big job. Whoever gets it though, hopefully they can make diablo 3 better than what they showed us so far.

Who says you can't work in a job you have retired from? It's not like retirement is a life sentence. Ever hear of people coming out of retirement? People retire all the time and come back. There intent is usually to never go back, but that is not always the case.

Maybe he quit because he is burned out? Maybe he quit so he could be with his family more? Maybe he quit so he could start a new company with some close friends? There are plenty of reasons a person would quit, and hating your co-workers or the actual game are only some of tte few.

Maybe no current artist on the inside is capable of taking a role where you need to be a leader? Directing an art team, especially a big one, is no easy task and perhaps no one atm was currently looking for the added responsibility. Perhaps they are just looking for new blood for the hell of it. All we can do is speculate.

No matter what happens the direction will not change, so don't be surprised when it doesn't happen. The lead designer has say over the overall design of the game and Jay has already stated numerous times that they will not change the design. Sure you may see some graphical change, but that happens as development on a game progresses.

I thought hammers were associated with Paladins, Not barbarians/warriors.

Why could the skill not be called "Attack from the ancients" (or something) And makes a visual of what type of item you are holding aka, axe, sword, hammer, ect, ect. Nothing fancy mind you of the exact item you are holding, just a basic axe, hammer, whatever.

I just always thought hammer magical "spells" are more associated with a paladin.... Not a barb or a warrior.

I mean they gave the barb charge which was a paladin skill... But i think giving him this hammer SPELL, key word, SPELL, Went too far into the land of paladin. But thats just my take on it.

I associate hammers with hammerdins ;)

But you are right. To my knowledge Hammers were restricted to a paladin only class. But Barbs were able to use mauls and other blunt weapons. So I don't see it being too out of place.

I do like your idea though of the skill reflecting whatever weapon he is using.

    It's all about money now-a-days.

For me being an art director for a big named company and then starting my own company when many new game companies go under within a few years, and tend to not make much money in the beginning...

This guy is a financial idiot. But than again he probably wanted something new.

Indeed. You must be tired with the whole world then, because that's what people naturally do. That's what you do, that's what I do, that's what he does, that's what Jay Wilson does, that's what George Bush, Shaka Zulu or the average joe does.

At least that is the impression the world has left me with.

George Bush doesn't have an opinion... he is a soul-less robot.

Now as for a new art director... who gives a flying crap. No one has any idea how Blizzard works internally. For each company a position means a different thing. For all we know he could be the guy that watches over people and says good job while someone is in the back making all the decisions. What do you think would happen if a movie director completely deviated from the script? The director usually only orchestrates, he doesn't change the original idea.

And to Shelledface... would you shut the hell up. You talk like what you say is fact. We get your stance already that you think the game is targeted towards 4 year old girls with barbies and hello kitty dolls. You should really stop your moaning as I think your point has been made and all your doing right now is just constant bitching to the point where nobody gives a damn about your opinion anymore.

I don't know how you can even compare D2 to D3. D3 is way more intense graphically. Believe me in an 8 person D3 game with all the new blizzard "flash" you will wish it was more like d1/d2
I disagree. I thought at the end that it was a lot more tame compared to some of the runs I have done in Diablo 2. Even with the heavy use of skills.

I think another reason besides the skills are less colorful, but also because they don't clash with the environment. When you cast ice orb in ACT 1 you had a bright blue ball on a dark gray/dark green backdrop while here the environment helps skill blend in more making it look less chaotic with more people.

How should I know what other people do lol.

I just thought that if someone was pretty laid back, then wanted to go hardcore, but their achievements page was horrible, that might suck for them. clan/guild-wise

OK, that makes more sense I can see where you are coming from.

Basically its like this. If there is a hardcore guild or clan, whichever name you prefer... Their going to check your achievement system out to see how good you are for recruitment. Hell, I would. And that might be a problem for some people, especially the less hardcore of the population.

Short answer, yeah I would like it...

Long answer, might make playing a hassle for some people.

The problem I have with that is... why join a hardcore guild/clan if you're not a hardcore player? Shouldn't you try to find a more casual clan/guild?

The barbarian from D2 was as boring as shit.

Berserk? Stun? Woop dee doo. Give me something that looks like I can take shit on rather than boring single target attacks. Even the shouts where nothing impressive. I want my skills too look badass and a giant ethreal hammer does just that.

Leap Attack got an overhaul that makes it completely badass
Whirlwind is the same, cool as ever.
Hammer of the ancients... I agree with Bashiok on this one.

Skills like these make the barbarian look... fun. If it had skills similar to D2 I doubt I would play the barbarian at all when the other classes have such fun skills to use. Ice Orb or Berserk? For me it was always Ice Orb. I like things over the top and amazing.

Notice how all the D2 clones getting boring extremely quickly. I stopped playing a warfare class on TQ when I found out the dream mastery LOOKED amazing. I don't give a crap that a skill set like that did not fit into mythology at all, but it was funner than hell.

    Quote from "Flamingdts" »
There are individual drops in all mobs. So it does make sense if the item % decreases based on party size, because you would gain the same % of loot soloing and cooperation.

The game does encourage cooperation though, so I doubt this system will apply. Blizzard is constantly changing D3 for the better.

I don't expect it to follow standard MMORPG party rules. And one would assume you would gain more "MF" for the more people you have in a party, otherwise it would become slightly pointless, or they would be forced to put in enemies that can't be solo'ed because no one in their right mind would party if the reward was lowered.

I imagine experience would also be increased, as per the same argument stated above. There has to be a positive side to parting with other people as Diablo is already a fast paced game.
