Well back then FAQs were written by diehard fans because they liked a specific game so much. Now it's all about views/subscribers/followers/etc. some of these guys are trying to become professional streamers, even the ones that aren't still want the views.
You're talking about MHM, who is pretty notorious for making long and drawn out videos over simple topics.
True but also in general - I remember when you wanted to know something about a game you looked up a faq someone had written on gamefaqs and searched the exact bit you wanted. Now everything links to a 20min youtube video you need to scan through just to get one bit of info.

Exactly, some of us don't mind the extra farming we just want to get started.

No it doesn't assuming Chromeonrust didn't get once in a lifetime RNG, GR25 wins hands down. If it takes you that long that get a GR25+ key, you aren't going to do T6 efficiently either.Quote from Glowpipe_and by the time it takes you to get one 25 key. you can have done a t6 rift. So t6 rift wins. Hands down -

Always wondered if the legendary drops were comparable for those 2, didn't expect GR25 to be higher, might have to string together a bunch of them like he did to see what I get.Posted in: News

Aug 21, 2014kg215 posted a message on Patch 2.1 Developer StreamNo that is the wrong way to do it, and I am glad they are not repeating that mistake. What they should be doing is buffing other primary stats that aren't as popular, so people have to make choices. They should also try to make more viable builds that encourage other stats, for example darklight crusaders need a lot of cooldown reduction and it's worth skipping a chc/chd slot or even multiple chc/chd slots to get permament akkarat's champion.Average damage, attack speed could both be buffed in order to compete with chc/chd. Defensive stats could also be heavily boosted on slots where people normally go for offensive stats (jewelry, gloves, offhands, maybe helms too). A 20% buff wouldn't do it but 3x the normal amount of all resists or 4x the normal amount of armor might be worth keeping over one or two chc/chd slots.Posted in: News

The meteors are not worth factoring in because starpact was "fixed" to do normal damage not calculate off mana. Now if you are talking about groups DMO is still better, because then you can do energy twister build with the Twisted Sword+still have Stop Time. Mantle of Channeling+Deathwish can't compete with that, plus you have to stand still and ramp up damage to channel and then stop every few seconds to spam other spells to keep up the bonus for Tals. Endless Walk cancels out Focus/Restraint and doesn't require alternating skills. Have you actually played with Tal Rashas or are you just looking at %? Tals just isn't as good when you actually play it.

The best solo build is DMO with Arcane Orb, Firebirds is terrible in it's current state for higher GRs (6 piece doesn't kick in until enemies start permanently burning, and remember if you go too far they stop burning. In order to use disintegrate you have to stand still and slowly build up damage as well). Tal Rashas is like an inferior version of DMO, both have the 2000% damage boost but one you just place a bubble the other you have to constantly spam spells of 4 different elements. DMO also has insane survivability that Firebirds/Tals does not have. Vyrs is being ignored because it wasn't changed, it is still pretty good but DMO is just way ahead. Really wish the other sets were more competitive, I didn't play PTR so I was excited about all 3 sets once I got Firebirds and Tals completed I realized how flawed they are.

Is it really overpowered though? You lose set flexibility and it's harder or impossible to mix sets by passing on RROG. And you lose 50% damage reduction (Unity) and or elemental damage+huge bonus elite damage (SOJ). If it goes down to 100% it might not be enough to compete with those rings imo. The way it is now it seems like a legit alternative to those currently mandatory rings, and the damage buff relying on resources available means it won't work in all builds for all situations.

I've seen his build, it probably is the best build for Furnace. Sunwukos is a really good set but it was a quick fix, monk spenders are still crappy. There aren't a lot of options like some other classes. You should just experiment instead of complaining about Quin, you will be able to figure out what the "best" build is for you quickly because again the choices are limited.

You mean grinding the same story/bosses over and over? That was terrible and more memorization than skill. Of course it still required some skill, but GRs require some skill too. The people who get over GR50 are clearly better than most players, it isn't just better luck with gear. The problem back then and now is the scaling, and no matter how much you try to romanticize the awful state of Diablo 3 back then it wasn't better and it did not take more skill. Some of those inferno boss fights were tough, playing at super high greater rifts are also tough and you can't memorize them like Kripp did.

Damn those inferno nerfs and kids who demanded them."
You really preferred the crappy Jay Wilson version? He resigned in disgrace for a reason. This game can certainly use some new types of difficulty instead of just damage scaling but Diablo 3 at launch had the exact same problem. The monsters in inferno did a ton of damage, they didn't act differently or give players opportunities to differentiate themselves with skill, it was raw numbers there too. And of course back then you played through inferno, dealt with those strong monsters to grind for mediocre stat stick rares. legendaries barely dropped and when they did they were just stat sticks too, often no better than rares.
Back to the OP, I would vote for jailer for range and electrify for melee.

Etrayu is the best weapon for solo play. Why? Because you can reach 2.84 comfortably without sacrificing any big damage stats, and cold is the preferred build in solo since you need the slow from frost arrow to proc Cull/Trapped reliably.
With absolutely perfect gear (calamity with 7% ias, 7% WH, 7% lacunis, 7% rorg, 20% rucksack, 50%/7% taskers, 10% paragon without taking away cc/chd), the 4.15 calamity might be better, but this is completely out of the question for nearly all demon hunters, so it's usually not even taken into consideration.
2.84 xbow setups is the best for group play. Why? Because you usually want to play Fire in group (So etrayu is out), and reaching the breakpoint becomes easy with a witch doctor that uses Starmetal Kukri for 100% big bad voodoo uptime. This secures 20% extra ias that you can not get in solo play, which means the higher breakpoints are reachable without sacrifices on gear. This is why xbows are preferred over bows in this scenario.
So you can see there isn't just a one-size-fits-all answer to bis weapon, as it depends what you are doing, and what you have available to you.
So best in slot usually comes down to this:
Solo: Cold build w. 2.84 etryau or cold build with 4.15 calamity ( perfect gear required)
Group: Fire build w. 2.84 xbow or lightning build with 4.15 helltrapper (requires voodoo for both)
Interesting, why go pure fire in groups though? In groups the DH is the main (or one of the main) damage dealers. Aside from the slow the hybrid build does more damage in general doesn't it? (maelstrom takes advantage of ballistics, loaded for bear doesn't). You can't really stack more fire damage either because magefist and cindercoat are not options (tasker & theo, maurader's chest).
