Quote fromnope, they didnt start the podcast with D3 for the same reason tv shows always show the best things last, because if they show the best things first, people will tune out after they see what they want to see.
i don't think so.

Quote from "EtheriChaos" »World of warcraft had bidding, and it had a far more stable economy than any od the diablo games. I don't recall you listing any examples to the "Auction houses = failure" argument. I brought up auction houses because they SIMPLIFY trading, not complicate them. You can't have it both ways, if you say that diablo was a simplification, then you can't say auction houses would be a bad thing because by their design they make things more user friendly. If you say they had an advanced system, then you can certainly argue against it, however, you're also pointing out that you'd prefer it be harder for the masses to use (Something Blizzard simply isn't going to go for). Instead of debating about the grand merrits of the old games, or the terrible tragedies of auction housing, would it not be better to post what you think would improve the system?
Quote from "intrinsik4" »For the smaller enemies they dont really have to be any more complex than the witch doctor's fire ball. Infact, even less complex than that could look great without being too distracting.
I wonder what the performance hit of a persistent shadow would be? Or if it's possible. Basically... a slight dusting effect envelopes the 3d body... leaving behind a darkened, textured shadow to replace the dynamic shadow. It'd allow for more diverse corpses and be as simple as playing with a few sprites and decals. The trouble is programming a bridge to translate the dynamic shadow into a texture. This is somewhat more ambitious than my previous idea (varying piles of ash).
In any case my point is despawn animations will take up more clock cycles, but not nearly as many as persistent bodies.
My main issue is that vanishing corpses should be a result of art direction and game play mechanics, not the other way around. I know I keep going back to piles of ash, but I'm just one person. I'm sure a group of people could come up with alot more - which is why I'm going crazy telling everyone here to dig alittle deeper.
Quote from "illinvillain29" »Good add with the corpse physics! i love it, who cares if the bodies dont hang around until you leave the game just as long as i can kill something and play a messed up game of volley body with a friend im good:thumbsup:
Quote from "squirecam" »No, Diablo 2 did not work well on PK, due to hacks and cheats. Which will inevitably occur if you keep some "timer".
Its simple.
You must consent to PvP or PK. If you allow it, you cant cry when you die.
Otherwise, if the button is off. You cant be touched. Period.
This solves the hack and spell-remaining problems, with no TP or WP issues.
The only ones who will hate it are those who would PK someone who cant fight back.
Quote from "irongamer" »I like the idea of health globes. Mashing a potion key always felt like a cop out. The globes will offer more randomness to combat/positioning.
Rather then just... "oh need health" *presses key* "oh need health again" *presses key*
Health globes may go something like this:
"oh crap where is a health globe!"
*frantically looks around*
"There its!"
*uses a knockback, fear, leap, etc*
grabs globe
"whew"
There will still be potions for emergency but it is time for something new for healing. I'm happy to try out their new system. I also like the idea of anyone in the party being able to pick it up and help the group.
Instead of just pressing the same single key to heal, you now may have to:
search
move
use a skill that works for the present battle situation
I believe Blizzard is spot on.
Don't care much about not seeing other peoples loot. I didn't mind it in HGL. I think loot whores will be mistakenly upset with this at first.
Quote from "Sly_dawg19" »They should do trading in Diablo 3 Ebay Style.
Post an item, and let others bid. Either with items, Gold, etc..
Allow the seller to list whether or not he will accept gold, or items or what not.
Also allow "Instant Trade" for specific items from a drop down list, or specific mod's on an item.
You could go into any town and find the "Trader" and be able to sell or buy items.
Also allow 1 on 1 trading too, with the classic trade window from Diablo 2.
This would be the most effecient and price checking system.
For example.. I have "Usless Mace", I go to the "Trader" and see that "Useless Mace" is selling for 300 gold, or usually for a Hel rune.
Then I either place my item up for bid with the trader (Leave the item there), OR keep the item and find someone in game to see if they want to trade.

i want phpnuke and phpbb programmers to come help customize the site. any offers?
if i did it myself it will take longer because i will need to familiarize myself with the code and php.
i want this site available to you guys today, but i want a clean site launch, with a fully staffed news reporting team and strategy contributors.
are there any people interested in filling this position. it would involve contacting blizzard and establishing a dialogue between the site and the blizzard PR department. there are more details that i will explain after the selection process.
contact me [edit] about filling a position.

i am recruiting the core staff right now. if you are interested you will have the opportunity to provide influence in the design of the new site.
why would you want to come to my site? because it is for players that want strategic options and discussion of strategy ideas. other sites have a section, usually just a small section, dedicated to strategy. i come to these other sites looking for a discussion about strategy and finding none. all i find are posting of builds and comments upon them.
i am looking for strategic thinkers and people who are active in the community, active players who are building sites, writing guides, testing strategies, creating artwork, and leading the community in strategic planning.
the site name is still being determined. as a member of the staff you will have an input into that decision as well.
i don't want to redirect traffic from diablofans.
i want a few people who are interested in making a site as i have described. skilled players see the game differently and i want them to have a place where they will not be interrupted by the the level 1 player who comes and asks where should i assign my attribute point, where should i assign my skill point.
this constant interruption adds burdens to the skilled players that i believe can be relieved by giving skilled players a restricted access forum.
the site will feature this as well as general forums geared towards helping players develop and discuss strategy ideas.
i really encourage those of you who are active in the community and want this kind of site to come check the beta and see if you want to be a staff contributor.
thank you kindly.

create an account and put it on[edit]
give yourself credit, sign in with your id and post it in the appropriate class forum.
so far three players from some 160+ players that have viewed this thread.
less than 2% of people viewing this thread are willing to help? (that required a calculator)

experienced player. start working on a strategy article to be posted on the site. spearzon and charger paladin are ones that i want, as doing a google search doesn't really bring any results for it.
join my group[edit] and talk about Level 99 (tenative site name) topics there.
the beta site [edit]
i plan on moving the beta site to a paid webhosting service (inMotion) if the db issues don't clear up soon. you may notice some lag while accessing the site currently.

I dislike people who bring this argument to the table.
"this other game has this and it was a good idea so let's add it to this game".
Diablo 2 was a progression from Diablo. Diablo 3 will be a progression from Diablo I & II. just seeing nice features in other games doesn't mean it will work in Diablo.
does Diablo even have a world economy?
no it doesnt.
does it actually require one?
no it doesnt.
what is Diablo's so called economy based on?
individual player's inventory and gold.
does my economy need regulating?
it should be up to me how i manage my inventory and gold.

my current beta site is slower than i expected.
i will be moving the beta site to inMotion webhosting. the service i am looking at is there business hosting package ~8-10/month.
i am asking that people that have experience with inMotion talk with me about this in the next several weeks before i make the decision.

Diablo is a completely player to player economy.
i won't support anything that detracts from that.
i think the current sytem can be upgraded with items being tradeable in larger trade only games. players would do a quest that unlocks this special location. then players can create a trade only game in which there would only be a town, and the max number of players would be raised (16+). players will be able to filter TRADE games from QUEST games.

Djinn_690 in. thanks. Join my staging area group at [edit] .
You won't need to do all those roles - just contribute a reasonable amount of time (1-5 hours a week) as a strategist, and if you want a role as moderator tell me why you feel you would be a good moderator, and i will explain the expectations I have of a moderator.
Send me your contact info and I will explain further. contact me [edit]

There are several mechanics involved with corpses from the D2 view that will probably carry over into D3.
class skills dependent on corpses
treasure finding mechanics -> checking corpses for treasure
corpses as weapons (summonable, explosive)
i would think that all these mechanices will carry into D3 - so the question is then with the performance issues what will be affected?
realistically this could be set by the player in options. so players with high performance machines can have many corpses, then ones without will have vanishing corpses after a time period (2-10minutes for example).
the only question then is does it affect player's ingame advantages with the corpses being removed after a time period (2-10minutes for example). in my experience very few players go back to search corpses or make use of them after battling through an area. in fact, corpses are only used perhaps in the first few minutes after or during a battle. i don't think this is a real issue, just something Blizz dev threw out as a tidbit about the game, and here we are chatting away about it.
i think corpses exploding with ragdoll effects is great visually, but unless it affects gameplay it's not that important to me.
now having a skill where a player could hide as a corpse to avoid death, that could be a nice new skill in D3.
