Interesting replies, here's what I think:

    1) 'Time = progress'. That's true of anything in life, not just games, and not just ARPG games. The idea is to make that time more interesting.

    2) Regarding no ias/crit as it makes paragon 'much stronger'. Not if you scale it properly. There's a mathematical point where 5 main stat = X% crit or X% IAS. The idea is to provide options. Some may want to hit a breakpoint at the expense of a LOT of damage/toughness, others not so much. The scaling/balancing part is up to Blizzard.

    3) There's no 'going back'. Ancients are here to stay and the 'loot grind' was over a long time ago and won't be coming back (do you really think Blizz will make stuff HARDER to find again?!).

Again, only solution is something new, complex, and which includes longevity, along with regular/large scale botting ban waves.

The thing is, if you have to add an in-game mechanic to automate an in-game task, you can argue that task shouldn't exist to begin with. It's like a car leaking oil - instead of fixing the pan, you keep pouring in more oil.

And yet on PC, Seasonal and non and on Console the game is very much still alive as is the community years afte release.

Even with modding on consoles and botters on PC I don't really agree the game is dying off because it is "boring"...

Some of your issues in the video are fair but I don't think Blizzard will change anything as significant or major like what you mention.

2.4 and 2.5 will come with new sets and revamped items and I can't see much more for D3...hope I'm wrong and at Blizzcon we shall see.

I'm not saying the game is dying overall, but that's because it keeps being developed. If nothing changed after 2.0 for example, few would continue playing. And that's the point of the video, there are some underlying issues which make it 'die' after 1-2 months into a season for a lot of players, who just stop playing until the next patch.

Hey guys, today I do a follow-up to a video I released almost a year ago on why D3 becomes boring and why each patch/season 'dies' after 1-2 months. Since then, the major issues still persist. I discuss where this stems from - starting with the initial release of the game and snowballing afterwards, the reason for botting, and some possible solutions - including a rework of the paragon system to boost complexity and a runeword system. I wanted to make this before BlizzCon so we can see what, if anything, Blizzard has in store for us. Enjoy & discuss!

I think 1 % of the people botting, with extremely high paragon numbers, have children..

    source = none.

logic = if you play 15 hours a day, its very doubtfull you would even have a girlfriend (in some cases it might be so)

p.s if im dead wrong about this, i do appoligise, however i find it very unlikely.

p.s.s are we really so far out with theese topics now that we are speculating if some of the biggest "no-lifers" (no offense ment) have their children farming for them ? :/

^ This. OP argument couldn't be any weaker. INB4 child labor paragon grinding, hereafter dubbed Baby Chris.

You need to be shot. "The top Rank 1 players", "the popular people", are the Devs on reddit and DF, and streamers people KNOW have cheated? You said it 3 or 4 times, that the "community as a whole" has been working on it... This is just inflated ego, how did you all fit in the same room? You don't represent even the largest MINORITY of playerbase, and yet you claim to represent us all? If it was a community based "petition" if you would, where would people get the opportunity to sign it? You have an inflated sense of your own importance, and it's sad. I honestly hope they figure out a way to do something, at least reduce the bleeding, but logically speaking, there is nothing that can be done.

Case in point: Runescape's "Anit-Botter" Godwatch program, where it literally watched the game world, and auto detected 'bot-like' behaviour. Well, that is until it banned 180,000 innocent people, and even after reveresed, destroyed over 350,000 items. I kind of have to laugh at the people, who in this forum, have openly admitted cheating (on purpose, or by defending botting as a reprieve to keep up with no-lifers). You know it's a constant cycle, the bottom 10% can't keep up with the top 90%, so they bot, then the bottom 30% starts botting to keep up with them, then the bottom 70% bots to keep up with them, and finally the top 1% starts botting to show off that they are the awesomest people ever.
    1) Reported, and be glad you can hide behind a layer of anonymity on the internet, as your first sentence is quite the threat.
    2) If you know of a better representative, please, by all means, come forth.
I get it, you're likely a botter. Keep it to yourself.

I agree that Blizzard are very unlikely to actually do anything about Botting, I'm just saying that if they wanted to they could, and I don't mean banning, I mean making it technically impossible for bots to play the game would be very easy, if they genuinely wanted to get rid of the botting issue once and for all. I could be wrong, but my suspicion is that the use of botting is quite widespread and/or has been used by high profile players for a long time. If that is the case, getting rid of botting may have significant negative financial repercussions for Blizzard, and it *may be* one reason why they act like it isn't there. I sure would love it if a player who got invited to one of their tavern talk videos actually rasied questions about it what their response would be. I suspect they would sweep it under the carpet and try to act like it is a non issue.

The best way to get rid of bots is to make it unprofitable or difficult to bot. The removal of AH was probably the single biggest hit to botting, but it's still prevalent for things like GR keys, HF mats, mats in general, and low-mid xp farming (bots can farm GR, just not very high). Hopefully Blizzard can put in some code to confuse them enough to make them ineffective. I'm not a programmer (I've taken some classes and written some small scale programs in college, but that was long ago), but I'm sure there are SOME things they can do.

The thing about Bots is they are extremely good at some things, but completely incompetent at others. An occasional random event that simulates a required interaction with the user that a bot cannot replicate is all that is needed to defeat the software. I imagine some care would be needed to implement this "anti bot" behviour in a way that seemlessly integrates itself into the game such that it causes minimal disturbance to the rest of the game. In my view it could easily be themed in such a way that people might not even perceive it as an anti-bot feature, but rather a new game mechanic. Off the top of my head I can imagine a sceanrio where the reward is a random opportunity to upgrade a gem (with low % chance of success). The mechanics of the interaction would be such that a bot could not simulate it, and enough repeated failures would, at the very least, send an alert to Blizzard so they could investigate.

Again, don't know how it works but from what I know there are basically 2 types of bots - memory readers and screen (pixel) readers. Screen readers will always work as long as the environment is static, and completely fall apart if it's not. D2 had several screen readers that were impossible to detect, even featuring randomization so they couldn't be flagged for patterns. Memory readers are more advanced, but (I assume) can be confused with encrypted memory injections by Blizz, kind of like hashIDs.
The third (honorable mention) type is code injection, but that doesn't really exist anymore as it gets shut down immediately by warden.

    G46 Helltooth

Hey guys, today I clear G46. A few gear changes took place and I switched to Short Man's Finger for a bit more tankiness and consistent damage, as I still await my Focus/Restraint combo. This was about 30 hours into the season, so I still didn't have my ideal gear. Enjoy, discuss, and be on the lookout for the next tier!
