This thread is gonna be about a very destructive and skill based build using the standard CM setup but using meteor instead of WW.
-------------
Advantages: Higher damage, better proc coefficients, can be placed up Z axis areas and over certain terrain obstacles unlike WW, the "group destroyer" build.
Disadvantages: Delayed hits/accuracy needed, high AP cost, timing and resource management needed on a smaller amount of targets (1-3). single targets doable, but annoying to deal with.
------------- The build: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#PSYXhT!Xga!ccYcYc
Gearing: The build itself requires a lot more defensive stats than normal since it doesn't use teleport or energy armor. You can view an example here: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/zCrystallite-1460/hero/29659376. None of this gear is absolutely mandatory, but the main point is be able to maintain explosive blast and meteor on at least 3 targets without running out of AP.
Stats: -28-30 Arcane power on crit.
-48-54% CC
-Try to get as much INT, CD and Avg dmg as possible. Attack speed is useful, but not mandatory due to how the build works. You can fill some spots with attack speed with a Witching Hour, Tal's Chest and Inna's Pants or Lacuni's Bracers, depending on how you want to gear.
-As much vit, armor and all resist as you can get. Balancing these stats out may take some testing. I suggest crafting Archon gear, getting at least one item with pickup radius, and looking for cheaper versions of the required items and testing it on a lower MP before you try it out completely on MP10.
Other info:
-Because this build is very resource heavy, you want at least 28 Arcane power on Crit (Apoc). I suggest finding a wand with life steal, a socket and 8-10 apoc depending on what you need. Most of you might say "but chantodo's is...", but you might change your mind once you try it.
-If you notice, Tal's offhand is actually better than Chantodo's for this build. Apoc and Vitality cannot both roll on Chant's offhand, and you want as much defense/hp as possible. The other reason is since Tal's chest is your best in slot chest, you get the 3% fire damage bonus to your meteors. You'll want find one with Meteor 5 reduction. You'll also want one of your rings to be an SoJ with meteor 5, try to get the stats as high as possible. Since there is a small gap between the worse SoJ and the best SoJ, focus on getting the meteor 5 reduction first.
-This build does require timing, placement and finesse. It's not as easy as WW, you'll want to hit as many targets as you can to keep up your CMs, Apoc, and SA procs. It might require some mastery practice, but I've played this build long enough to know it's definitely end game/MP10 viable.
-Unlike traditional CM/WW or SNS, you might have to avoid perma-freezing certain bosses to regather enemies or position yourself properly based on the affixes of the boss, as once again this build does not use teleport. For example, watch out for yellow bosses with Waller and Frozen in a tight area.
- Deep freeze frost nova is used because crit is never undervalued due to Shocking Aspect, CM and Apoc being so vital. You'll notice a lot more damage with the 15% crit buff up.
Liquefy pools last 8 seconds on crits, kite enemies through them
or keep them in the pools. Try to stack them on top of each other depending on how
the enemies are setup or are being kited. SHIFT IS YOUR BEST FRIEND. Try to target where the most enemies are going to be instead of just clicking on them, as they'll run and move.
Hit as many targets as possible with Dskin, explosive blast and meteor. This is the vital part of the build. Missing meteors is punishing, as the build is cost heavy. A cool trick is to freeze the more annoying enemies (projectiles, run aways) while dropping meteors on a big group nearby to reset Frost Nova as soon as you can. Don't annoy yourself chasing 1 enemy around.
Once you work on and accomplish the first two tasks, you'll notice that your CM and SA will proc completely out of control. You'll also find yourself with full AP in groups, but might be chugging a bit with less targets. I recommend not using Explosive Blast on a single target or boss left. Try to kite enemies together for maximum results, or kite a single target into other enemies. The point is as long as your hitting as many targets as you can while stacking meteor pools, Shocking Aspect becomes your strongest hitting skill.
Try to test this build in the mob-sluggish parts of act 1 to get a feel for it. Cemetary and hallow
should help you along. If you like this build, you can try different meteor variants, skill setups or gearing options. I personally find this build ridiculously fun and highly rewarding once you master moving and positioning yourself without teleport. One example is to use Arcanot Familiar in place of Magic Weapon and then use Cold Blooded or Conflag in place of Power Hungry. It all depends on what's comfortable for you.
You can choose to mix in a slow skill (time bubble, comet) or get a cold SoJ. I choose not to because i like to kite whole packs as quickly as possible.
The reason this build is called "Bomberman" is due to the absolutely destructive power to demolish whole groups in a couple seconds. Mastering this takes time, and I myself have been working on this for quite a while now. I hope you enjoy, and feel free to ask questions. The info may be a bit sloppy. I may release a video for this build on my Wiz eventually.
1. Keep up deep freeze buff as much as possible.
2. Keep up Dskin and use Exp Blast +meteor as often as possible on as many targets as possible. Shocking Aspect works best when you're standing around your meteor pools with enemies nearby.
3. Watch the hilarity ensue and laugh yourself to death with how unfair the damage is.
There's been a recent fad in the wizard community involving Liquefy Meteor. I've been running it alongside the standard SNS build, using only 20 APoC.
Welcome aboard to the Meteor wizards. I'll dissect your build later if I have time, but I'm sure there a few others here that can do that as well.
I still suggest running Chain Reaction for the additional chance to generate the much needed APoC.
I really only notice Wiz's using WW as the AP battery and using Meteor when they're ramped up. I wanted to try some meteor variants where Meteor is your primary skill and completely forgo tornadoes entirely, and I have tried many versions of CM. This one by far feels the most different to me, and it's also yielded the highest skill vs. reward. Results may vary for other players though
I've tested every Explosive blast rune with a variety of ApoC (18-30), Crit and skill variants and I find Obliterate to be my favorite due to it's reach being able to tap those few extra enemies. Even with 30 Apoc, Chain Reaction doesn't seem to help the AP chugging on single targets. I've noticed that Obliterate is better overall for my playstyle. Since I lack a high DPS lifesteal wand, I've tried Arcanot with this build and it stops the AP issue all together, but since I don't feel like downgrading my dmg or spending a bil on a high DPS/socket/life steal wand, I stick with Blood Magic for now.
I've also played along side many Rockanado Wiz's and CM/Nado versions and I've noticed that my output is much higher on groups while they're always better at dealing with that last boss mob. My survival is extremely good outside of Reflect bosses.
I wanted a different feeling of play but reap the benefits of being more aware/cautious around certain affixes or mobs, and this build does it. I don't feel like I'm hindering myself simply by needing to play it smart around certain affix combos, but for big white packs completely wipe them out in a couple seconds.
