1) I tend to look for weapons with the highest DPS right away. Is this correct?
2) When a weapon says: "+20-70 Cold Damage", etc. I thought that meant it will only make my cold SPELLS (like Ray of Frost, perhaps) do more damage. Someone told me this impacts all abilities anyway - what?
3) When an item has + regular damage (as in, +3-10 damage), is this desirable? Should I be looking for items with this? How does it compare to INT?
4) Sometimes I'm looking for a weapon and I notice some have +% dmg, (like +17% damage). Is this a massive boost? Should I be looking for weapons with high DPS AND + % damage?
5) What about +% attack speed. Worse than +% damage?
6) ^ Begs the question. 1H v 2H. I was using a 2H at the start, seemed they always had higher DPS. Switched to a 1H and a shield recently to help with defense/kiting. I read that 1H is better in Hell+ because you no longer channel one of those beams (which a 2H does better because it casts in longer?) and you cast quick single-button-press spells (like orb/signature) more quickly? However, people seemed to disagree about which type of weapon is better.
7) What kind of stats on the rest of my gear should I be aiming for - Hell Act 2+? Currently have 20k health, 5k DPS. Seems like my DPS should be higher. Should I be getting VIT on everything?
8) Does weapon DPS listed on the item INCLUDE the modifiers that are on it? Or is that calculated before.

1) Highest DPS is generally the best way to go, but occasionally lower DPS weapons can actually have a better effect on your damage. For example, a slightly weaker but significantly faster weapon will give a higher damage score if paired with a Source, because the added damage from the off-hand will be multiplier times a higher APS (attacks per second).
2) Added damage on weapons adds to the weapon's DPS. For the most part you can ignore stats like + Damage and Increased Attack Speed on weapons because those are all factored directly into the weapon's DPS, which in turn increases all stats.
3) As above, added damage modifies the weapon's DPS, which is then modified by your INT score. In most cases if your INT is moderately high already a higher base weapon will be preferable, but not always—try them both and find out.
4) Also factored directly into DPS. Percent Enhanced Damage modifies the weapon's base damage, which is then supplemented by flat damage (like + elemental damage) and is then multiplied times any attack speed bonuses. Another stat you can basically ignore, just look at the DPS.
5) Explained above.
6) Top tier 1h weapon + Source will do more damage and have more total available mods between them than a two handed weapon. However, 2h weapons are cheaper than buying a top end 1h + off hand.
7) Don't remember what my DPS was in hell, but it was higher than 5k. Might have been around 10k.
8) As above.
