the concept is to get as many lightning bolts down range as possible in order to stun as many enemies as possible and keep them locked down via paralysys passive. This is done through gratuitous use of "summons" that do lightning damage. the great thing about lightning damage is that it always hits its targets.
in total this is whats going on:
lightning Dartling - summon
lightning hydras - summon
lightning signature spell
lightning shield - summon
mirror mimics - summon which can cast their own dartlings, hydras, sig spell, and lightning shield.
the mirror mimics just compounds the lightning output. although this might not be the most damaging build... it should be able to lock down much of the screen when at full clip. with mirror mimics popped the screen should just fill up with tons more lightning summons and effects. even though mirror mimics dont do much damage, its about the stuns and control they provide.
picked a lot of rune/passive effects that increase arcane power efficiency. not sure if thats needed or not considering nothing this build has costs a ton of arcane power. however, the thought of getting as many hydras out as possible intrigues me hence the + arcane power selections. Other rune selections though might work out better though.. not sure.

NOTE:
upon reading up on how magic weapon works (with all attacks not just melee) as well as hydra (only 1 at a time)... i modified the build a bit: http://us.battle.net...SjTP!VdT!aZaZcc
basically got rid of the arcane power efficiency rune selections for more DPS oriented selections. Added magic weapon with Electrify as that gives me more lightning bounces and more chances to stun. Also changed Prodigy passive to Arcane Dynamo considering that this build is spamming signature spells then dropping a hydra. So i wanted to make this hydra as powerful as possible.
if the slight chance arrises that Arcane Dynamo works on Mirror Mimics/Dartling then this build would be absurdly powerful imo but it probably doesnt heh...
I have a very similar build idea. I hadn't considered the mirror images casting versions of your own spells. This would be very cool "IF" the mirror images summons lightning attacks count towards the paralysis passive.
The only problems I see with the build are whether the mi summons counts towards paralysis and that you don't really have a big damage attack for yourself to cast. This may not be a big deal in the full game and your builds total damage output overall from summons may be plenty, but atm it looks like a possible weakness.
This is probably how I would roll a lightning focus'd build:
Basically it aims to stun enemies as much as possible and generates flashes of insight with electrocute to power up explosive blast with the chain reaction which if my math is correct would make that skill do just over 500% weapon damage with 5 flashes of insight.
The only skills that routinely require arcane power are hydra and explosive blast and since explosive blast is on 6 second cd it should be difficult to really mana starve yourself and it should be at least moderately easy to build up the required flashes of insight to boost explosive blasts damage on a fairly consistent basis.
Either way I think your build could be very effective.

That's not how flash of insight is going to work (would be preeeetty op), for instance, if you cast flash on hydra you won't get 75% bonus dmg to every hydra shot, but to the total amount of hydra dmg. The same principles should apply to flashed explosive.
Anyway, LOVE the original build. I took the best from two builds and stole magic weapon from second build posted by Bloccstyle. Saved for release.
As I picked up magic weapon, I also put down a note that unstable anomaly might be worth considering. The build has 0 escape spells. 0 safe stuns or slows (if one doesn't want teleport that is). Unstable Anomaly is something i've never really considered for anything but HC and pvp, but in this case I think it's quite decent actually. I swapped arcane dynamo for it.
interesting that you choose unstable anomaly over illusionist. If this is Hardcore then obviously its the better decision but for softcore why not choose something that youd get more mileage out of and is more useful in a more diverse array of situations. Unstable Anomaly is only good when below 20% health and only good vs melee. whereas illusionist can be used every time you take a big hit. Also illusionist helps offense as well as defense; if paralysis passive works on mimics for now im assuming it does.
Funny build... would probably be fun for awhile. The lack of escape ability (and pretty much no DR) will be the end of you though. You'd probably want a really fast weapon + shield with this build. Especially later on when higher level monsters start getting more resistant to stuns (I would imagine it would turn into a 1 sec stun due to resistances). The single element aspect might hurt as well once you start running into monsters that have decent lightning resistance.
I wish I could offer a way for you to spend your AP... but there aren't any lightning spells that actually use AP beyond hydra (which you can't spam). How lame is that?
On second thought, I do have something helpful to say... it's a really good suggestion too!
I would replace Magic Weapon with Meteor - Comet. This will help you kite when your stuns aren't procing and it will finally let you have something you can spend your AP on It would add a ton of survivability to this build. I'd probably still wear a shield or ranged will eat you for breakfast but that's up to you Definitely use the fastest weapon you can find.
Would fix:
Single element build problem
Lack of kiting problem when stuns don't proc
Lack of AP usage
Gives you a bit more damage output as well
Good spell to use when arcane dynamo procs (which you really didn't have a spell before.. it would be odd if arcane dynamo worked with hydra or familiar or storm armor, lol. Not sure what it would do if it did work on them... only increase damage for their next attack? Confusing)

it says the next spell does 75% damage so it sounds to me that it would add 75% damage to the whole hydra duration; not just the 1st blast to come out of the hydra. Arcane dynamo seems perfect with summons because of the way it scales. Orrrrr you might be right. shall see when game is released.
well... it would add 75% over the entire duration so it would barely add anything to each shot.
My point was that you'll want to use it with a giant AoE so that it hits more targets and you get more damage out of it. You'll hit more targets with Meteor compared to Hydra.
Struggling between Dh and wizz... so this is my take on wizzard build.
The only skill i have problem with is disintegrate. There are no more lightning skills in game and all other skills slots are taken anyways. This build is VERY arcane power light - just hydra and disintegrate, which can IMO be swapped with a snare spell - blizzard for instance. The living lighting can be swapped for a ball or electrolute (as an arc or single lighting for instance). What is more this build is valid if stuns from passive work for both hydra and familiar. If I take blizzard I can run around while my 2 pets deal damage (with blizzard piercing orb is a must imo). With disintegrate I am a bit less mobile. Anyways due to storm armor (which deal damage itself - can stun) rune i can stun with any non-lightning spell, that crits. If i get cornered - I can keep casting, keep my pets up, shield - due to critical mass I hope i will be able to keep my diamond skin up. However if I feel I lack mobility I can swap one spell with teleport.
Arcane torrent, meteor etc seem to be okish too. Disintegrate with arcane dyname seems to deliver best damage tho. If i decide to pick arcane spell - arcane flux seems to be a good passive too (taking dynamo's place).
i think youd be better off with a fire and forget spell as your DPS option. that way you can go back to spamming your stun spells (lightning abilities). So consider stuff like meteor, death blossom, arcane orb, and blizzard. When you cast disintegrate all other spells stop being cast and character movement stops etc...

One of the most relevant posts in the thread, and is yet unanswered. I'm curious too.
