There's like 7 different categories that affect your HP in D3...
+ Max Life, +% Life Bonus, Life Per Sec, Lifesteal, Life Per Kill, Life Per Hit and Health Globe Healing.
Having spent a lot of time messing around with the skill calculator (particularly the WD) you notice that some forms of regen seem better than others for the WD and in particular the WD summons.
For example... (assuming everything works the way I think it does)
I think lifesteal is not going to be very good compared to the others if you're using pets. Your pets do very weak damage, and relying on lifesteal to heal them isn't a good idea I don't think. It's good with Restless Giant, but that's on a 2min CD and lasts 15sec. That being said, lifesteal is a really good stat outside of pets.
Life per hit isn't particularly great either because (by the looks of things) your pets do not attack very fast. Now this could be decent when combined with the Gargantuan's cleave ability, but other than that I don't think your pets attack fast enough to make this very good.
Life per kill could be decent if you combine summons with a high damage single target attack but is more situational than the others and requires you to use a nuke type spell in order to optimize it.
Health globe healing goes along with life per kill since things have to die for these two forms of healing. And neither one helps you when things aren't dying.
Lastly is life per sec which I think is the best because it doesn't get weaker when transfered from you to your pets and allows you to use AoE damage alongside pets and is very consistent. On the other hand, it's much worse against high damage elite enemies. Most of these get a lot weaker against bosses though. Life per hit and lifesteal are probably better than the others.
The conclusion I've come to is that for a build that's focused on pets and Fierce Loyalty, life per sec is likely going to be the best regen stat. Obviously people will mix and match if they're trying to stack regen, but overall life per sec appears to be the best and lifesteal is a lot worse than people might think as far as pets go. Especially when considering that monsters will eventually have abilities that prevent you from hitting your target, thereby removing your life regen.
I'd like to add, that one shouldn't overrate lifesteal with non-pet builds either. Since monsters now can disable/fear you for some time you better rely on stable heal too (ofc besides with overall survivability with maxhp, resistances, armor) not life per hit/kill or LL.
PS btw, nice Sacrifice build. I've spent a lot of time working around it. I just hope ZombieCharger with certain rune will benefit from all bonuses to sacrificed zombie dogs (chance to drop health globe on death particulary). Otherwise there's gonna be problem with mana on standalone-boss encounters or just with small pack of phat elites.

Yeah I made that build a while ago... I should probably change it to something else. But Explosive Beast doesn't benefit from those runes, you can see on YouTube a video of it, it's probably not at all what you think. Things could've changed of course. But from what I saw it functions a lot like Elemental Arrow.

Huh, yeah. I've watched the video and surprisingly it doesn't explode. Well still it seems like a very good spell with nice distance and solid dmg. And i'm glad i didn't end-up with pure sacrifice-based build. Since i think Spirit Vessel is a must-have passive on HC (and prefferably with Spirit Walk itself), in the end i've come to sort of mixed build. Though Explosive Beast is in it, and now that i've seen how it actually works, don't regret it at all
