I've heard a lot of rumors about the being able to use flying mounts in Azeroth when Wrath of the Lich King comes out. But this would require a great deal of work to fill in the holes and empty spots and all that stuff in Azeroth, we'd finally get to check out thoughs islands in the middle of the Great Sea.... what do you guys think? is it possible?

Although it would certainly be enjoyable, the chance is slim. Main Azeroth was never designed for flying mounts, and implementing them now would require a complete revamp of all the terrain in the mainland.
Besides, the water you see on the map isn't there in the game, you would still hit a loading screen once you got out far enough. So for you to check out those islands Blizzard would not only have to remake content, but add new as well, and that sounds like expansion-material to me.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

yes it would be nice if they ended up filling in all those holes. im thinking that they will at least end up allowing flying mounts in Northrend

That is for certain though, since Northrend is being constructed now that flying mounts are already in the game, everything has been designed with that in mind from the start.
As for now though, it doesn't seem as if you'll be able to use them until lvl 80 in Northrend, and that's because Blizzard doesn't want you flying over all the content and missing it.

Alliance, I've played on Argent Dawn almost since the beginning of WoW. We may have wimpier races, but Gryphons>Wyverns. On the other hand we have Talbuks, so perhaps it evens out somewhat.

I wouldn't call 60 small, though I guess it depends on what you're focused on doing.

They need to make flying mounts capable of flying anywhere.
It doesn't make sense that you can't. What is stopping the characters hmm? Theres no way to make sense outta it.
I guess you kind of can, what you buy in outlands of flying mounts has a magical thing around it or in it or somethin and it can't leave outlands or something.
I still thinks its dumb though. But whatever.

i think it would be absolutley great if they could enable it so you can use flying mounts everywhere. but the most common response is that it would take far too much work to fill in the holes and create new content.. makes sense i guess

I don't think they'd make flying mounts available when an azeroth when the new expansion comes out, It wouldn't make sence to redo whats already there when they're making a new world that they could easily make Flying Mount approved.

I was on a private server that allowed flying mounts in Azeroth (WoWTrance.com). Trust me, it's cool, but you can't actually get to the islands. There's a giant invisible wall there, all there is is a giant sea, and then it ends. You can't do crap. Also, the Fatigue area does have a bottom, since I've been there. They also got rid of Fatigue, and when you get to the bottom, it's nothing. Just nothingness
I think it's pretty much not possible. They'd have to finish up areas such as Hyjal and some of those zones you can't mouse-over, and they'd have to merge the Draenei Isles with the rest of Kalimdor (EDIT: Invisible cube is possible actually, but it would suck), and then they would have no way of keeping Pre-TBC players out of the BC areas.
Also, they'd have to put in a lot more detail everywhere, and I doubt that Blizzard would actually have to do that.
By the way:
