I remember when I first registered to this site, there was a sub-division of Off-Topic Forums called Spam, where the post count didn't count and all the games were there.
But now, every post counts, and I have to say that this isn't really fair to a lot of people because of the time and effort they put in some posts that really count the same as some guy going "HaaaHAaa you FaiLz nEwbZ!@#$%!@". Even I don't think that all my post count shouldn't be so high since I post a lot in the Forum Games.
And also, having all the the posts count now kills the fun in some of the spam. Before, it was fun going off like you're a chipmunk on acid, but now, and maybe I'm wrong about this, it just kind of killed the fun in a lot of threads.
So if I may ask the Staff to bring back the Spam Forum!
If this was already discussed, I deeply apologize for bringing it up again.
Post count is meaningless. The quality of your posts reflects the quality of you.
You repeat a cliche that has no meaning in this discussion. If you have anything relevant to post, then please do so, but for now, just stick to the topic.
Post count is meaningless. The quality of your posts reflects the quality of you.
The problem comes from the fact that not enough people think this way. Many people, in an effort to make themselves seem more important, will spam away just to get a higher post count with no thought as to content. What deathMars is saying is that because of these people, threads that would otherwise be decent off-topic conversations are quickly becoming meaningless spam threads.

I think.
That's exactly what I think. Thanks for making it easier to read
Well, let's assume for a moment that we did once again have the Spam Forum back. How would you handle many people losing a ton from their post counts? In the thousands?
Not that I'm against the idea, really, but this is the kind of annoying crap we constantly have to deal with. *shivers at the memory of the rep spam era*
I used to frequent an old forum where forum games simply were not allowed. Spam forums do not move the spam, it acts as a central manufacturing plant for it as it spreads throughout the forum.

Yet you fail to see the fallacy in your own argument? You claim a spam forum should exist so that people don't increase their post count with meaningless content. But, since post counts do not matter, why have a spam forum at all? Shouldn't you be more concerned with the quality of your own posts (which, so far, have done little to reflect good things about yourself)?
It is not the absence of a spam forum that is the central cause of the issue, it's people who literally say they're going to bed in the Random Thread.
but that's the idea of the off topic section and the random thread... to have a place to say nonsense and funny stuff...
on the other side I believe that having this chat place is good for the community, it gives a reason for checking this forums when there's no relevant blue posts in weeks...
about the post count... it is irrelevant, yeah, some of us have a lot of post there... so what?? that doesn't make our "relevant" posts worse... or our random posts less funny, or less off topic

I would also like to remind you of who you are. You spam about North Korea, you consistently try to troll around the forums, and then you attack me for asking for wanting post count to only count if they're relevant while keeping that spam fun section.
But hey, I have 6 infractions, so I'm not getting into a flame war. Don't openly attack me in my posts so we can continue the discussion.
I am also guilty of spamming in the spam thread and many have rightly drawn my attention to it.
One of the things I have noticed, is that many of the frequent visitors/members of diablofans post in the ULT frequently which ofc in my opinion passes the time while waiting for others to reply to their own posts and is a way of keeping the overall activity on this site consistent.
This is perhaps good for diablofans as a whole because there are times when communication from blizzard is at a minimum. Forum games, however, on or off topic they may be, seems to be a fun way to keep our most frequent visiting members posting.
I think it says a lot about diablofans that we have consistent visiting members here on a daily basis. I too agree about how important post quality is. Is it possible there are other benefits to these threads that we may be overlooking?
I really don't get what you're trying to say. Can you say that in a different way? Or am I just being retarded?
Naw you are definitely not retarded I think that you care about diablofans in a good way. I've lost count to how many people agree with you, I'm just thinking that despite all the legitimate arguments against spam posting, however retarded many people feel it is, may be beneficial to our fan site. I hope you aren't upset for me voicing my opinion.
Your rank within the forums is solely determinant on your post count? Sheesh. And here I was thinking I was a cool red-coat...
Anyway, people that spam are known to spam. People that make quality posts are known to make quality posts. Your post count has nothing to do with this. Quality over quantity, imo. You could have 1 post and it could be the most amazing thing anyone has ever read. Ever. Or, you could spam the URT for a week and have 1k posts. So you think that because that person has 1k posts, they're better than the 1-post wonder?

In essence, yes. Post count does dominate your reputation in the end. No matter what you tell yourself, human beings will always see quantity over quality. And there are too many people on this forum who feel that ways too.
But we are getting off topic. I was saying that we need to get the spam forums back so Forum Game posts aren't the same as a page long in-depth research on how the Diablo lore will evolve to suit Diablo 5.
I have to disagree with you. To echo Huck, Sixen and quote DBZ powerhouse Super Vegito "It's quality, not quantity."
It is my belief that those who see the post count as a dominant factor on fansites such as this are superficial. I liken it to this - if we took everything Sarah Palin and Albert Einstein said and place it in one forum dedicated to the documentation of both people, you'd probably see that Sarah probably has said a little more than Albert, but Albert has said things that hold more meaning to the average person than Sarah. That would be because Albert has, understandably, more intelligence and common sense than Sarah. In the end, though, to me, the post count, no matter how high, means absolutely nothing. It is the quality of the thought, not the number of them.
To the topic of the spam forums - No, I don't believe it hurts to ask to bring them back. However, whether or not that happens is up to the people with the pretty colors in their names. Specifically, the red and blue ones, I believe.

Basicaly, some people find it intimidaing suddenly seeing alot of people geting over 5k posts... people that joined a year ago let s say. Yes, some people spam like crazy and its really weird how they manage to get their post count so high in such little time period. But then again, i dont give a shit about this, and i dont really see why anyone should care.
Person #1: Hey dude i got 6k posts!

No, it isn't. You don't know what your talking about. It's not like you have the most important posts anyway. Maybe I would take this more seriously if it came from a mod...Maybe.

Post count really doesn't matter, it can actually work against you.
Hell, I know several people who aren't fond of the spammers, because their posts are based on quantity > quality. No, people will not always see quantity over quality, that's just a vague assumption, with no proof backing it.
Sure, YOU might see quantity over quality, but myself, many people who have posted in this thread, and many who have not, DON'T see this way. Thus, your assumption is proven wrong.
Sooooo, roundabout way of saying it, but post count really doesn't matter.

We have two kinds of visitors (not members, visitors) to this site. The regulars, who may come online once a day, week, or month, and there are the first-time visitors, or people who come here once a year, or every half-year or some such.
Post count, in all likelihood, counts for very little among the regulars. They've read enough posts of the regulars to know more or less how worthwhile their posts are to read. Oh it's fun to have that little number rise, I won't lie about it, but in the grander scheme of the forum it's not that important.
On the other hand, if you have a first-time visitor come to the site, he will have no idea who is what. In this case, there are certain pointers. Colored names of staff members is one of these parts, so one can easily and quickly discern who is actually a staff member here at Dfans even if they've never been here before. Reputation is another, as is post count. Now to these people I agree that post count will probably be a token by which you initially judge people. Since you nothing of anyone, seeing they have a lot of forum presence is just as good a guide as any to begin with.
In fact, post counts may actually help you identify who is a spammer. If there were no post count, and I see someone post some gibberish, I may not think more about it. Maybe he posted only gibberish right there. But if I also see a high post count, perhaps it is reasonably to conclude that most of the posts from that user are in fact gibberish? I don't know. At the end of things, it doesn't seem all that important.
