Reading that D3 will have a Money-Based AH literally makes me sick to my stomach. Someone that starts the game 6 months late, but has $100 to blow, will suddenly be more geared than me (who will have started on day one). Or some lazy-fat kid is going to be better geared than me because he mommy will buy him everything. You might say "well you can buy items too" -- no! Fuck that, I refuse to by virtual items. I will also refuse to sell virtual items for real money. I will refuse to play with anyone that spends real money on items. Thanks Blizzard for this absolutely stupid new system. And wow, yeah, lets just let complete noobs buy a character. Fucking brilliant Blizzard (I hate you). You might have just turned me into a SWTOR fan... or maybe Guild Wars 2.
Get over it. I don't see why you care if someone gets better gear than you as soon as he joins compared to your 6 months of farming. It sounds to me like you didn't enjoy your 6 months of farming so you dislike the guy who bought your exact items as soon as he joins.
Your hatred will pass or just don't play a game you won't enjoy playing.
All in All: Don't worry about someone else, worry about you.
I get your attitude, but what you just said is akin to, " get over it son, your brother got a new bike for being a good boy, you just had to get one by actually working for 6 months."
If that's how he feels then he's just going to have to cry for a little bit.
@Diisfunk: Really? I had no idea there was multiplayer. Hmm I thought battlenet was made for me to create a account to play with offline.
I bet your the "fat-lazy kid" and that's why you are defending Blizzard. They implemented the Real Money Action House because they are to lazy to do anything about sites like d2jsp. Why don't they just take those sites down and fix the problem instead of putting a band-aid on it? Sites will still be selling items whether they implement the RMAH or not. But with Blizzard putting in the RMAH they are just giving-in to the minority. They are saying it ok to sell items and characters now... which is flat out stupid. In-game wealth/status/power should only be earned in-game, not with dollar bills. Period.

I hope you didn't play Diablo 2 then. Lazy-fat rich kid could buy more gear in D2 as well, just by blowing $100 at D2JSP or diablolegit or blahblahblah. Lazy-fat rich kid can buy items in ANY MMO OR ONLINE RPG EVER MADE.
Want to explain how this is different?
Did you even think about this?
I agree, such is the nature of any multi-player game in which items can be traded. If an item can be traded between characters, then those items WILL be sold to characters. How can you POSSIBLY stop 3rd party sites from selling items for cash? Nobody to date has thought of a single reasonable approach to preventing this sort of behavior. That's because no such approach exists.
Example: I meet someone in a game. I tell them I found a very good item. They respond by letting me know they wished they had that item, and that they would be willing to even pay for such an item. I tell them that if they send me $10 through Paypal, I'll give them the item. The deal is made, both sides benefit. Now tell me how the HELL anyone could possibly stop this transaction. The only evidence of the transaction would be in-game chat, but what if we talked about the deal over Ventrilo? Then there's zero evidence.
You see fundamental problem is that people will find a way to buy items, because it's so damn easy.
Person-A: Makes $20/hr at work, works 10 hours a day, 5 days a week. Plays game 1 hour a day.
Person-B: Unemployed, plays game 10 hours a day. Has Uber items as a result.
Person-A offers person-B $20 for an item that took person-B 5 hours to find. Both persons are satisfied with this deal.
This scenario has occurred in [insert <any> MMO to date].
Of course you can sell gold, otherwise there would be RMT for that just like anything else (I'm sure you've at least heard of what happens in World of Warcraft).
If anyone watched The Wire (best show ever) and remembers "Hamsterdam".
I remember Hamsterdam lul. I see the connection but this is a bit different since the selling of items is not illegal, so this isn't really the police (blizzard) legalizing drugs (selling of items).
This may be an annoying and discouraging practice to some people (immoral even?), but you can't really liken it to organizing crime.
biggest buzzkill EVER..... dont even know if i wana play this game anymore. such high expectations for all this crap about real money AH no e-sports over my dead body BS like jesus hes trying REALLY hard give facepalm a whole new meaning ughhh!!! wtb blizzard north FOR SURE
So we that sort of counterbalances the argument on less characters made because of using all skills?
Like if I choose passives that make me a melee wizard, I'm going to want to make another to be a pure caster or something.
No, passives are all unlocked, but you only get to choose three. So it's exactly like skills, except they're passive and you only get three rather than six. You can pick 1 passive at lvl 10, one more at 20 and the last at 30.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

I plan on writing a nasty email to blizzard outlining many stupid elements to this final press release. RMT is top of the list with their approach to PvP a very close second.
RMT would work fine if Farming sites did not exist. every1 playing would be playing and not working. Therefore people would just be using the currency to trade and not to earn a crust and live. Simply put its the exact same as using an outside currency like D2jsp except run by blizzard.
I totally understand that however. Because there are a number of websites just trying to sell items, there is an excess of supply forcing price down (that's your first lesson in supply and demand curves kids). The auction house "trading" system now becomes a shop to buy items for your character. There becomes less of a reason play the game and farm items to trade, which realistically is a major part of the end game(as was in diablo 2). One can simply log onto the auction house and purchase the items to completely kit out a character, then go kill the hardest minions with ease and seen no fulfillment in the process.
As blizzard states over and over the game is about advancing and gearing your characters, and that's because it comes with that sense of achievement and fulfillment. By facilitating the use of real world currency and thus facilitating the azn farmers your are then directly reducing the enjoyment people will get from actually playing the game. Obviously that will stop people from wanting to play as they will find other games that better fulfill that self satisfaction.
Took me 3hours to read, watch, spread and write about this article.. Thanks.
I quote Sixens words altso on my Swedish blog..
"As far as the Beta goes, I was told that it will be relatively small, which I think means relatively short... which means we're still looking at a potential 2011 release! It seems to me like the Beta should be starting any time now. Maybe this is what we'll hear at the Conference Call?"
I don't really want to get into the whole real money debate, but I think it's something that as always, the player base is going to be the driving force in.
On the topic of the beta, the August 3rd investor call is when most assume the beta date will be announced, since Q3 only has so much time left.
Didn't read it all but what I did read sounds fantastic.
Don't have to worry about some jackass namebotting or jacking my character names.
Don't have to deal with annoying long trade times.
And people complaining about the money aspect wake up, it was always there in D2 whether you witnessed it or not. D2JSP essentially owned D2's economy and that sites garbage, so hopefully this Auction house smashes them. Also people thinking since D3 will have a stable currency that D2JSP would become obsolete are wrong. People have invested to much into their system to drop it. They would still buy FG for gold and items, adding cash to D3 pretty much 1-ups JSP.

You will be able to cash out!
RMAH is kind of .... I'm not really sure. I really hope they manage to actually make loot epic and unique even though you can buy things on RMAH.
I think blizzard will pull this off nicely.
What I was really disappointed in is the DENIAL of ingame PvP stuff. I feel so uncertain about this. I guess we must create unofficial leagues for this.
Kind of luls that Blizzard uses an INSANE amount of resources for managing to have real money auction house, (Cleaning dirty money anyone?) but denies something as simple as a PvP ladder or matchmaking?
Well, I guess some good unofficial leagues will be started up.
Ok so is no one worried about the big chunk of customization blizzard took out of skills????????? You can't specialize and feel like your the most powerful wiz or wahtever because there will be only like one or two builds per class that are really the best at destroying things. The only thing that might be able to customize your skills right now is the 3 passive abilities. I.E
Gamer 1 "o you wanna play an ice mage well the best way to do that is to use Black ice passive hobbler and prolonged exposer" (i just made up some traits).
Gamer 2 " That's it? Cool Sounds easy. I can't wait to try out some P.V.P. with this bad boy!"
Gamer 1 " Your gonna loose alot, I wouldn't do that with an icemage you don't do enough damage."
Gamer 2 " ok well can't i just take the points out of prolonged exposure and put it into black ice to make my ice damge a little higher that should even the playing field a bit right?"
Gamer 1 " No dude there is no points to put in passives it is what it is if you wanna do enough damage to last in the arenas you gotta use a disintegrate mage."
Now I realize that an Ice mage is never gonna be as powerful as some more damage specific wizards, but the point is you have three skill to specialize your playstyle as is right now. Do you people realize how limiting that is. I sure as Hell hope that Blizzard is looking for some avenue to give us some skill customization back (like as much as that rune system Jay was talking about seemed unpolished (probably cause it's only in concepting stages)its like the only hope we have left of having any customization that will make different build types more viable)

"Give a man a skill tree, and he will become a Fire Sorc. Give a man 6 skills to choose from, pulling from all three trees, and he becomes a Fire Sorc that likes to shoot lightning to manage the bigger crowds."
"By facilitating the use of real world currency and thus facilitating the azn farmers your are then directly reducing the enjoyment people will get from actually playing the game."
This sentiment is so whiny and ridiculous. The only people whose enjoyment will be "reduced" are the people who play in a manner that is inconsistent with their goals. Everybody is acting like the only way they will be able to gear up their character is by purchasing items using real money. Want to play legit? Then fucking stop bitching and play legit. Why is that so hard to understand?
As for not supporting e-sports, Blizzard has already mentioned several times that the game will not be balanced for PVP, and the game will not be supported for eSports. The only people who see this as an issue are the people who haven't paid attention to any fucking thing that has been going on the past couple years.
I'm extremely disappointed. Couple this with the niggling doubts I had before this press event about character cap, level caps, followers etc, and I may not even play this game anymore. I don't mind the RMAH as much as other people, but I don't love it either.

kinda disappointed, every other class has a very cool crest but the Witchdoctor's is kinda lame.
