All I know is I am going to be playing with my friends and because of that I will be getting more gear suited to me. Why you ask cause my buddy the barbarian has no need for a unique orb of power especially after that bangin double handed axe I found and gave to him. We all find stuff normally not for us if you play with friends there's gonna be more stuff for you/and them. "yo man I could really use that blank" next guy " well i was thinking of salvageing it but if need it sure" "Sweet thanks man here salvage this" ... throws a health pot on the ground and runs away laughing....on the issue of magic find. MF may only be for that one players drops who has the MF gear, but again it doesn't only make wizard stuff or barb stuff etc. etc. drop. So its still will be fun to create a party with 3 strong armers and one guy decked in MF. There's is always that one guy in every group that yea he/she is fun to play with but they just arent that good so tell'em to put on the MF robes and take the responsibility of distributing sweet loot. It'll make them feel empowerd and everyone will have a good time getting awesome gear lol.

"Give a man a skill tree, and he will become a Fire Sorc. Give a man 6 skills to choose from, pulling from all three trees, and he becomes a Fire Sorc that likes to shoot lightning to manage the bigger crowds."
I'm concerned that because all drops are equally random for each member of a party that the economy effectively multiplies by that amount.
For instance 1 boss run in D2 might net you 2 rares and 200 gold to split between a party of 4. But now for the same boss run in D3 each person gets 2 rares and 200 gold effectively making each run introduce 8 rares and 800 gold into the economy. Unless the runs take 4 times longer to complete this introduces quite alot of inflation into the economy.
Isn't this quite a big problem??
I'm almost 100% certain that the drops don't work like that. They are random for each person, so it's completely possible that you do a boss run and not get anything that is rare or even something you'd want to not salvage. Just because one person gets one or two lucky drops, the luck isn't then somehow multiplied by 4. And yes, the bosses are supposed to scale effectively with player count, not just have some of their stats multiplied similar to Diablo 2.
As Bashiok also said, if you try to solo in a 4 player game, you should be dying very quickly. So in that way, coop may introduce less items into the economy than Diablo 2 did with it's ability for having a full game where everyone soloed all different areas of the game.
You mention the option of playing alone with a follower.. though they said that followers were for Normal difficulty. It's not viable for gears farming.
