Yeah, really odd that Mojang is winning from Valve. I mean, Minecraft is cool and all but I never expected it to beat Valve. Probably having a new playable product helps in their favour. If only Valve had release Portal 2 one month earlier.
Oh, and too bad Blizzard is losing from Bioware. Ah well, they're in the top 4 at least.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
Just because EA publishes their games doesn't mean Bioware's products (at least so far) have suffered in quality. You can't just hate a company for who publishes their games, especially considering how little the publishing part of the process effects the actual game. And as for EA not publishing any good games, Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age Origins and II (even though the sequel wasn't so great), and Dead Space 1 and 2, along with Battlefield Bad Company 2 have all been published by EA in recent times. It seems like EA at least knows how to stay out of a developer's hair and let them make a game at this point. And again, its not a vote for EA, its a vote for Bioware. Just like a vote for Blizzard doesn't include Activision.
Well Bioware probably only agreed to it with a contract that gave them a large amount, if not complete, creative control over their games. And as far as publishing goes, a big company is only really going to sign with Activision or EA. I do see what you're saying, but at the same time I would also say that its a good thing as EA is kind of realizing they can't just pump out crap anymore, and their solution to that is giving good developers room to make their games their way.
I love Bioware for its Mass Effect series. And I love Valve for Half Life and Portal. Not so much L4D though.
I might have to give more kudos to Bioware though for giving me more to play recently. I get pissed at Valve sometimes cause they won't seem to even hint at Half Life 3.
Well Half-Life 2 is probably my favorite FPS ever ever ever. The episodes were great but certainly not as good as the original. And it'll be Half Life 2 Episode 3 before Half Life 3. And Portal is just incredible, and the second one is coming out in like 20 days. Hopefully after that release is done they finally go back to Half Life. And then Mass Effect is obviously incredible, and I didn't play a Bioware game I didn't like until Dragon Age 2, which was unfortunate. But really, if you asked me to choose between Blizzard, Bioware, and Valve my head would probably explode.
I still have a feeling they might drop hints of Half Life 3 somewhere into Portal 2. And I'm not so positive anymore they're going to do an Episode 3. I thought I read in an interview with one of their developers some time ago that with how much time has passed, they might just make the content of Episode 3 the first part of actual Half Life 3. I mean, Valve is going to make Half Life 3. Of that we can all be sure. But besides that fact that it will be made, there's practically 0 information on it besides that infamous fake screenshot of it.
I really loved Episodes 1 and 2 by the way.
Dragon Age I really have had such a hard time getting into. Fingolfin was nice enough to help me understand a lot about the game, but after so much frustration at it I'm not sure I can even pick up where I left off ever again. But DA aside, Mass Effect was a great experience for me. I put tons of hours into that game and ME2.
Yea, I definitely loved the episodes, but I felt like they were short for how long they took to come out. But still very fun. And judging by how Half Life 1 transitioned to Half Life 2, I would guess that they'd wait for a complete change of scenery/time to go to Half Life 3 instead of Ep 3.
I don't know though. Major stuff happens at the end of Episode 2. Vance dies, the Combine portal is closed, and you're about to go to that mysterious Aperture science ships. Those are pretty major things to start off on.
I guess for me the length of the Episodes were not an issue cause I played HL:2 for my first time on Orange Box when it came with everything at once.
True, I guess they could pull it off as that. I just don't see why they wouldn't make this its own storyline and start somewhat fresh for HL3. I'd rather have something drastically different like HL1->HL2 than the same story.
As more time passes though, you might wonder why they would keep putting time into Episode 3 with the old graphics when they could be putting all their effort into just making HL: 3.
Either way though, I believe they are still making Episode 3. So more power to them if they're still willing to see it through after so many years.
Yea thats true. But they did have a graphical update from HL2 to Episode 2 where they started using new lighting and stuff. So they could probably make upgrades to Source, or just use whatever version they have for Portal 2, which would allow them to upgrade the graphics. If we don't hear something about Ep 3 in their next announcement after Portal 2, I'll be sorely dissapointed.
It is impressive the number of games Valve has put out in the last few years. But I really struggled to enjoy Left 4 Dead. Maybe it's just because I didn't play the multiplayer enough though but you kind of have to have good teammates in that game to get the best experience out of it. And I was kind of bummed out when L4D2 came out cause by then I'm thinking, okay, a new game and a sequel and still no news of Episode 3.
Yea. I appreciate L4D in that its kind of a new type of game, and it pulled off the zombie v humans multiplayer very well, but its definitely my least favorite Valve game. As far as L4D2 coming out before Ep 3, that really didn't surprise me. Its much easier to make that game than Ep 3 or a longer Portal. I just hope that Ep 3 is more full-length than the previous episodes after a 4ish year wait. It is funny that the whole point of the episodes was to release shorter content more often though...kind of abandoned that early on

Valve: Episode 3 not coming out fast enough.
Bioware: Dragon Age 2 being bad for various reasons.
Blizzard: Well... WoW. Need I say more?
All of which would probably vote for Mojang given the chance, even had they not played the game. There's that indie charm over them.
Blizzard should put up links to this. They did last year I think, though it was in the beginning and not near the end when it was needed.
