to me this reads, that any other game will incur a usage fee. so if you skip starcraft 2 and only buy diablo 3, you will pay a fee to use battle.net. if you buy starcraft, and diablo you will not incur a fee.
Just an idea... mabey what could happen is you could pay to bring back a hc char but its no longer a hc char, it becomes a norm char?

Hi mockery
Diablo 3 is a awesome game. I play this game on my pc since 6 months but i don't want to spend my money to play Diablo 3 online. According to me it is better to purchase Diablo 3 then playing online.
Honestly, I wouldnt mind paying a nominal fee in order to play on a moderated, hack free, etc. online network...I mean, I dont know about yall, but we pay $50 a year to play on xbox live (even though thats to play a lot of games), but still, its kinda of the same principal...maybe not $50 bucks a year, but something to help cover the maintenance of the realm. Anyone agree?

I think Blizzard will follow in the steps of WoW and introduce miscellaneous things that cost real-world money, such as the ability to resurrect a fallen hardcore character (probably only 1-3 times max - that would actually make sense), realm changes, name changes, deleted character restoration, and maybe even gender changes.
I am perfectly okay with this kind of system, as long as there are no fees for the usage of Battle.net itself (I'm almost 100% sure this will not happen, anyway).
I thought they said at blizzcon that you will get SC2 and use b.net for free (unless you want some of the mods/maps/etc. not affecting gameplay goodies). It's getting a bit confusing...
What the fuck is that?
And they think its going to prevent piracy?
LOL.
Fuck you Blizzard. Millions of people will just LOVE to download the single player portion of your game and make sure you don't get a fucking penny.
And what the heck? Like no one plays WoW for free. Private Servers, anyone?
Well, i dont think that this kind of service (community) should be a payed service. One huge and good example is the Steam Network that works awesomly well and is a great example of success to follow. I realy would not mind if blizzard become a parter of Valve enabling the sharing of my steam friends with Battle.net ones.
like the Koreans are gonna pay monthly fees for B.net
there is a reason why nearly all MMOs in Korea don't have a monthly fee but have micro-transactions
I think thats why they removed LAN from SC2, now it will have to authenticate through the battle.net servers.
And I heard that emulated WoW servers, well....suck (No Raids, hacks everywhere, etc), plus why pirate a MMO of all things, your taking the sole reason to even play (Massive Multiplayer) out of the equation, (its not like they have that compelling of a story/gameplay, for a single player game).
I wouldn't mind a small fee for extras, I can see there being a whole "account" tied to blizzard games, since they have the battle.net accounts for WoW & other games now, kinda like a SoE station pass.
WoW making mega bucks doesn't make it ok for them to lose money on Diablo 3 + battle.net 2. If indeed maintaining what they have planned for battle.net 2 would in the long run cost more in maintenance and manpower than just a single game purchase for 50 per person would cover, are they just supposed to "eat it"?, not a good way to do business.
I can see some mega stripped down battle.net 2 for those wishing not to pay, that will lack the new features for bnet2, and those willing to pay will get them, something for Diablo 3 like an online account wide "stash", or mule, or even "Items Storefront" for trading would be good extras that wouldn't effect peoples ability to play or the games balance, but would also be a nice incentive to throw a couple of extra bucks in blizzards coffers.
Come on, thats just to support the public map making community and to develop a premium map making community. Blizzard wont even make money off of it, it will just even more strengthen their fan base (meaning future benefits) and market share (meaning more ppl will buy the game).
Its like Mozilla offers to contribute to their theme makers.
This quote proves it:
"We want to make sure that the best amateur game designers out there are making maps for StarCraft 2, and not for Kongregate or Steam or anything like that," said Blizzard's Rob Pardo.
Its still an insanely stupid idea that will do nothing but hinder the community and overall map/mod developement. This is just so stupid.
If you were a map maker devoting weeks or even months of time to develop an exquisite map would you still think so? The thing is that the map maker community is also progressing and becoming more demanding. Blizzard is just supporting these people to keep them loyal because Blizz also benefits from their investment in ways that might not be apparent at first but look at WC3. Would it still be so popular if not for custom games? DotA especially. This system will help SC2 survive for decades.
Well, I just can't believe anyone would even consider buying that crap. Its just ridiculous. Its custom stuff. Since 1993, stuff made by the players for an existing game was always free. Those that try selling it never got much. Its just ripping people off. Don't tell me the majority would be willing to pay for anything like that. I just don't buy it.

yeah but to be fair, even John Carmack has said the the days of just whipping out maps/mods are pretty much over (speaking about FPS games), nowadays the barrier to entry for a mod team against professional work is so high, you might as well be a development team in-in of itself, obviously Starcraft 2 is a bit lower barrier to entry in making maps etc than a full blown fps game, but it will probably be more involving and time consuming, If something great comes out, and can now be financially supported, I think we will see people working harder, and longer on the "good" mods, and when a mod is really well done, kicking a few bucks to whoever made it, weighted against the HOURS of enjoyment it provides isn't too bad.
I don't mean to come across like a shill for micropayments, but if a few dollars is enough to let some really creative people spend their time wisely making something that they are passionate about, but also giving us those "this is amazing" moments we never thought a game (engine) could do, Its a fair sacrifice, at least to me.

I just don't agree that we should be forced to pay to play it. One things I'll always agree with: Donations. Heck, they could support donations. Maybe even make it obvious to everyone when one player donated to many people, some way that everyone can say that "this guy donated a bunch of money to map makers". Ways to encourage donation without forcing them.
Its a privilege to be given the ability to create maps and mods. It is an experience that can make someone all the more better, and even allow him to prove himself and get hired for it (though I guess, that only happens with the really, really sucessful ones). In any case, its good experience, but in no way should it cost anyone anything to play with it.
Worst logic ever...
