So there will essentially be no penalty? You are just putting some lost experience in a pool that you will get back later.
Well for one it prevents you from heading straight back to the other party members (Losing time). Secondly it prevents using the current system as a teleportation device/mechanism and lastly it creates incentive to stay in the game after death or when things become difficult, while if a player cannot retrieve his/her exp/gold they do permanently lose what ever was left in game. Again this is comparing itself to the current system obviously not one much more punishing, just a variation of.
Yea for some reason I always like a pretty tough death penalty, it adds a lot more caution in the game. I could see exp loss, gold loss, and maybe even another penalty of damage or health or ect..
But dying and nothing happens to you other than getting spawned at a checkpoint sounds like easy mode.. What's the point of even dying in the game than. They should just take it out if you just get re-spawned at a check mark..

It's highly unlikely that there will be different kinds of death penalties.
I'm not basic this statement on any facts but, Blizzard hasn't really ever done something like that and I don't expect they will change anytime soon.
Blizzard still remains stubborn on releasing information, so everything is still up in the air.
Most likely there will be one single penalty and when I know what it is, I'll let all of you know.
That is an interesting concept however, having the option to choose how you wish to proceed after death. Keep in mind that this sort of mechanic could/would be taken advantage of somehow. Maybe....

I like resurrection too !! it's can be great !! I don't know if a class will has a spell for that ?!
or a scroll to buy ! like that any class can resurrect party
There will be no healers, but it could be a default spell. Click a fallen friend and you channel a revive spell.
But it should still have a penalty. Perhaps the same penalty as reviving at the checkpoint. The extra penalty for returning to the checkpoint is that you have to walk back.
The penalty for reviving can increase for each time you revive, resetting when you visit a town, while returning to the checkpoint is a static penalty.
I like that idea, but returning to checkpoint is not a penalty if the checkpoints are all near from each others.
If gold are important ! not same as d2, losing gold can be a good penalty.
Well hopefully we'll agree that the current system can't be the way to go. Despite the much needed gold, xp loss there needs to bee some time lost implemented. As long as the checkpoints aren't close to each other something like a faster respawnrate for each death would be really cool.

It lasts for 10 minutes. If you die so much that you can't survive, you start all over again to regain your power. But it is not a harsh punishment because in a 4 player party it would be a 2.5% power reduction, which is nothing, and will be regained after 10 minutes.
I didn't mean local to the game, I meant local to the dungeon. So you can leave the dungeon and do something else without having the power reduction, but it will return if you go back to the dungeon (within 10 minutes).
Perhaps a option to pay gold for regaining power, useful if you are fighting a boss similar to UD and need all your power.

To be able to pay the Grim Reaper to come back alive in Full Swing, and Health....

it's simple, it's efective and makes you pissed if u die... the perfect death "not mechanic"
