I am sick and tired of reading the same crap about the graphics in every thread. I love the way D3 looks so far, and I think many of you seem to be forgetting that we are still completely unaware of 99% of the game in regards to dungeons and environments.
That being said I wish people would show some restraint before immediately jumping to conclusions about the graphics in Diablo3. I have been playing the Diablo series ever since it was released in 1996. I've played both D1 and D2 for years, and I believe that Blizzard will indeed keep the series "dark and foreboding."
Please just relax, take a deep breath and wait for some updates from blizzard.. If it turns out that hell is just Blizzards interpetation of "It's a small samll world" then we can start getting enraged.
indeed, when are people going to stop posting about this. every thread has it.
btw GrandRobot, diablo 2 had a day/night cycle, when it became night the fire in the rogue camp even started burning. you could also notice the game geting darker
right but still i dont think anyone has considered what the game might look like in the nite. the entire gameplay was dungeon, and a DAY scene outside. it got sort of dark when the siege beats came out but it was still day. and although it got dark and rainy in diablo 2 there was no time piece to actually say it was nite or day. it was just a few minutes of a camp fire burning, oh thats nite time? there was no real time affect to it.
What does anybody see wrong with the new graphics? its basically everything that we asked for and more.

Ok, just so we're clear, I am NOT all that opposed to the current graphics (IE I would like to see a little more grit, but not enough to make a fuss), but some stupid things people are saying require response.
1.) "OMG the concept art looks totally cool/roxxor, it's not too dark!1"
Does it really MATTER? It's the GAME that we'll be playing, not the concept art. The 3D artists have deviated far from the concept art, clearly. Again, not a criticism, but I don't see the same goddamn game when I look at the art and the gameplay vid.
2.) "Just fiddle with your graphics settings!"
Not even gonna mention the fact that this shouldn't be done for moral principles.
If the whole goddamn point is for the game to have contrast, with some light areas and some dark, what happens when you change settings on your card? Suddenly the darker areas are pitch black, just so you can have the lighter areas you don't like look darker. No one will be able to see, and they won't find their way out of the first dungeon.
Well, if we're going to play that game, that makes you WoW-loving, basement-residing, twenty-five-year-old virgins, does it not? TBH I'd rather be a fanboy. Not even gonna argue point by point in the open letter--I don't even disagree all that much, but some of those things were mindblowingly idiotic--I just wanted to state that he and everyone else who is unwilling to be constructive is an asshole.
Please, can we remain rational in our arguments?
Oh, and for those who continue to point out that the gameplay video isn't necessarily representative of the entire game, you get a big thumbs up:thumbsup: People need to remember this.
This is one of the coolest drawings I've seen in a long time. I (edit: had) it as my desktop background. After reading a discussion on what the witch doctor's voice might sound like, I'm really looking forward to hearing it. I hope he sounds like rakanishu (in a unique way, of course), ha ha.
Load up the tristram Chath concept art. Can any of the morons crying foul about colorful graphics in game no see there is plenty of color in that concept art?
Just to help you along, the main color is BLUE, and theres lots of it.
Also, theres some well placed and used RED in there.
The use of color makes the whole image look ominus and gives the cath a look like something is brewing inside.
If you don't understand the use of color to set a mood in a painting/art/movie set, then go pick up a 101 art class.

They haven't diviated "far" from the concept art. Understand that Concept Art, is exactly that, Concept. Take a look at any of the Lord of The Rings dvd featurettes. Many of the designs for orcs, trolls etc went trough many iterations before settling with the final design. Hell they completely redesigned gollum after they had used a version in the first film.
Baiscally, alot of you need to learn and understand that there is an iteration process that happens from original concept art > final product. Each person along the way adds their little touch to the overall design. Keep in mind that some things that work in a sketch or painting may not work so well in a 3D model. The idea is to keep the essense and feel of the design in tact throughout the process. It's clear Blizzard did that.
I don't understand most of you. Blizzard's art department is clearly competant and top notch. Never have they released a game that didn't have the very best art, style and high quality animations. Alot of you need to get off your high horses.

look at those towns, if the towns are that in depth with so many levels of hieght and tiers, this game will truely be EPIC. it will take 5 minutes to get from one side of town to the other, imagine all the interaction with so many NPCs that could fill a place that big.
This is exactly what i thought when i saw Caldeum in the trailer. Cool.
Please realize that these people have to present new material. I promise you that more of the same will only get boring faster, due to an overly-familiar atmosphere. Sorry, but Diablo 1&2: The Remake really isn't what I expect Diablo III to be. Yes, the original Diablo was fun, and you remember and cherish that game as well as what you though made the game good.
Diablo 1 was good for it's time and a fresh experience. Again, please realize that these people have to present new scenarios', varying atmospheres' and un-anticipated takes on the world of sanctuary, in order to expand upon the Diablo universe and make Diablo 3 a better game. Also take into account that Diablo isn't a survival-horror game in the first place. Stop trying to push this game back into the past. Let's see what atmospheres' the older Diablo games offered:
Diablo 1:
*Static weather, an un-changing atmosphere, gothic scenery-spam and a single dungeon. (hmmmnn...revolutionary for it's time, but it wouldn't really work for the up-to-date gamer would it?)
Diablo 2:
*Attempts to offer more environments, more scenery options. Does a good job of doing so, focuses more on action and gameplay elements, combat is sped-up, goes on to become more popular than the original Diablo itself. (sound's alot like what's being attempted with Diablo 3 doesn't it? lets have a look.)
Diablo 3:
*Attempts to offer even more to the Diablo universe, new atmospheres, fresh ideas, re-vamped health system (potions were NOT removed) that allows for more fighting and less pot-spamming, towering 3-story bosses, havok physics system, destructible environments, combat is sped-up, even attempts to further in-corporate different cultures into the character designs......and the result =
angry petitioners, hatred for attempting to implement new ideas, hyperbole on the negatives, angry mobs with pitch-forks, so-called "hard-core Diablo fans" focusing purely on the negatives of the 2 level demonstration.
Wow, pardon Blizzard for actually attempting to offer something that isn't just a remake with better graphics, pardon them for offering something a little different.
"How dare them! As if they own Diablo or something! Diablo is not what they say it is! It's what I say it is! What they showed was not Diablo! By "Diablo 3" I was expecting a re-make, not an actual sequel with variety and different atmospheres. WHERES MY RE-MAKE!!?"
indeed, well said good sir
This petition is to KEEP the current art direction

FUN!
3.) "You guys are dumb/fanboys/etc" (ESPECIALLY in response that stupid open letter to "Diablo 3 fanboys" found here: http://www.bingegamer.net/index.php/2008/an-open-letter-to-diablo-iii-fanboys)
