Yep it's easier to read now... not sure about the new background though. It's a cool pic and goes with the site but it looks odd on widescreen displays. I would lose the transparent black because it should be easy enough to see as is.
As much as I love gradients I still think the yellow at the bottom of the tool tip (the ?) makes the white text hard to read. A flat orange background, or black text with the gradient would be easier to read.
@ Seth - The pale yellow in the tooltip could be a vibrant red/orange seen at the bottom of the main logo, the What's New box could be white with black font inside, and the main font could be white. For links I am uncertain, but black would probably look ok. The logo in the left hand corner could be white.
@ Jet - Maybe making the search bar centred just for the logotype could work? or you could centre it based on what looks right no worries if it's technically incorrect. The flames higher up should go over the bar but all the rest should sit on it IMO.
Looks awesome! It's probably lined up correctly but because of the weight it looks as though the search bar is slightly to the left. You could solve this by maybe making the bar longer?
Also the white text on pale yellow at the bottom is hard to read. Are you going to update this for D3? You could be getting a lot of traffic soon.
- It was a tool tip sort of thing... it might not always appear.
For good logo design simplicity is the key. You want something people are going to remember, easily recognisable at a glance. I think Jetrall's is good for a rough draft.
