I have never Played Diablo 1, and probably never will.
I am sorry, but I have standards in graphics, they are at a CS1.6 Minimum lol.
*special exception granted to Diablo2 LoD*
If there is one thing I have a real problem with, it's people who care about graphics. Now granted, I have never been able to max out settings on computer games or even turn the slider bar even the slightest bit up... ever, so maybe my view is slurred but, it is not the graphics that make the game. Definitely is not. You should play it not because it looks good, but because it is a good game, it tells a story well, it plays well, it's difficult to master but easy to learn.
Hell, look at Starcraft:BW, the graphics on that are bad, but it's still huge! What does that tell you about the game? People don't stop playing things just because they look their age or get old (granted there are lots of games that were never played online but there are better reasons than graphics for that), even the original 1.6 or CS:source are proof of this. They are still played quite a lot today, and they definitely are not the games of today.
You should play the game to learn the storyline atleast. That's why I bought WC2, so I could figure out the events before WoW and before WC3, as the references to the backstory had me confused.
Play the game man, hell, hack it and just listen to the dialogue and watch the (few) cutscenes. But check it out.

I don't want to pay the few bucks for something that I might not enjoy ^^ I know... I'm an idiot...
Well I wouldn't say you're an idiot. That's going too far. Autistic savant is a better title You won't play the game but you won't pirate it either. My advice is try and get it off a friend, there are bound to be one or two people you know with the game, especially if they bought the Battle Chest for D2.
Enjoyment is not optional...

Lol I remember watching my Dad playing and completing that game. I played it last year and finished it as a warrior, and I think that for all the background information the game has you should play it. Though you probably already know the story line of the original game (and if you don't you should at least read that. Theres still nothing like playing and living it yourself, trust me, you will have a better understanding of the events before D2 (and Wirt, knowing just how much of a penny-scamming-bastard he was is important), and the game is still fun.
Also, as I played D1 before D2, when I walked into Tristram I immediately went around and tried to figure out what charred burnt out wreckages equalled the buildings I remember, like Ogdens tavern.

I'm also trying and failing to make D2:Lo cd-less without downloading it from the blizz site.
