Let me guess... your image of satan is some red guy with horns and goat legs? Who has nipples but just has fur for a crotch? Where the hell did his nipples come from, if he doesn't have a penis too?
Sexual thoughts is considered a sin in the christian-type of religions. Sex is meant to be only something that you do when you love someone (ie. after you marry them). Highly religious people do associate sex with sin/some kind of devil.
But for anyone who isn't religious, they are merely using the image of 'satan' that is popularised by the media - and of course the media would leave out details like that.
I want to play a serious game, and serious demons have genitals. Blizzard has already done this a bit, so you can't say that it doesn't belong in a Diablo game.
There are minors here, but it really depends on mental maturity anyway, which isn't necessarily in sync with physical age.
But yeah, for all those people who think that seeing penises on demons would turn it into some gay porn fest... well, there are already penises in the game!
I wasn't sure if this is really what appears in-game, but recently I checked and yeah, this really is what Baal's Minions look like in-game:
They really do have penises. Considering noone has really noticed, I think blizzard did a good job at putting them in without turning it into a porn fest. Thats the kind of balance that is good.
Diablo universe Demons/Angels are not Biblical Angels/Demons. Demons and Angels are as separate as canines are from felines. (That is, the first angel wasn't a graduated Demon, and the first Demon wasn't a fallen Angel.) They had to reproduce to become as numerous as they are in the current time of the Diablo universe. Also; we've seen the female Demons, where are the female angels now? Are they hiding in the High Heavens?
Auriel is an Archangel of the Angiris Council as described in The Sin War trilogy. Because of the physical nature of angels (being made of mostly light and sound energy), its hard to tell the sexes apart, but Mendeln 'gets the feeling' that Auriel is female. She is very sympathetic and caring.
One of the other Archangels of the Angiris council actually appears to Mendeln as 'oddly asexual', as in neither male nor female. His robes and armour are also coloured grey, and in voting he was pretty undecided. He clearly has a strong neutrality about him.
Skohsl! What a great post! I totally agree. I was never able to put it into words as you have. There is just something especially terrifying about completely naked demons - male or female. Its just so raw and confronting because it goes completely against our moral values.
Obviously we don't want to turn it into a porn fest, but with the right balance I believe it can be an effective element.
The Succubi in Diablo I were a lot more naked than the Succubi in DII, unfortunately.
lol, I came up with this thread after seeing this picture somewhere on the internet. I think it was in the concept art thats in Tales from Sanctuary.
Well not as soon as I saw it. It stuck in my mind for a few days as it kept sparking thoughts about using more realistic elements to make the demons seem real, because I'm just having trouble imagining demons as being real. There's always that thing in the back of my mind that tells me that its just a game, or just a movie, or just a book. I am a thinker, Stonebreaker. I thought about it all for a few days before finally deciding to ask everyone else the same question I had asked myself. And I'm glad I did, this is an interesting discussion. I was afraid people would think I was just being immature and inappropriate though. But lucky they didn't.
lol, Stonebreaker, you seem to want some sort of personal information from me that would suddenly explain why I made this thread. The discussion isn't really about the sex side of it though, and neither are the motives for discussing it, so its not really that important. I'm not looking for an excuse to talk about/play something that is arousing lol. Just something that is more realistic.
EDIT: Thanks for defending me, Equinox, I appreciate it. But its ok, I'm fine with answering it. (It kind of ended up causing flame anyway though lol).
[Option 2 is voting for every demon to have genitals, whilte Option 3 is voting for just minor demons to have genitals. So when tallying them up, 2 is added to 3 because 2 includes the people who want minor demons to have genitals]
No-genitals is catching up with yes-genitals, it seems.
Wow, Equinox, you didn't know that? Pretty much all humans are the offspring of Lilith and Inarius. I'm not sure if any other demons and angels had offspring too, but we know that atleast those two did. We don't know how they did it, but we know that they don't reproduce the same way as we do (so they don't need genitals to reproduce, but they can still have them for other reasons. I mean, why do we have them if our parents didnt? Maybe they did have them, but the way they are used changed?). However they do it, they did it, and the first generation of their children are the Nephalem, like Rathma, Bul-Kathos, Esu, etc.
I wouldn't say Diablo has nothing to do with the bible though. I mean, in some versions, Lilith was the first wife of Adam, but then she got kicked out cause she was evil or something. And in other versions, Lilith is the snake that tempted Adam to eat the apple. Well, thats probably the only main connection, but its just a name. Its not quite 0% nothing to do with the bible, but I suppose it is on the low side.
I don't really want an AO Diablo. I was only imagining it, or thinking that if it did happen then it would just be more like an alternate version than a whole new game.
Okay, I think everyone has pretty much said all there is, so I'll tally up the votes so far.
When you vote for option 2, you're also voting for option 3, you see.
So really, overall, we want to see a bit more genitals in Diablo, for whatever the reason. Not turn it into a porno, obviously (as already discussed), but just to give it a bit more realism.
I totally agree with you Requiem too btw. With everying, including what you said about an AO Diablo. But also like with what Equinox was saying to me a while ago in another thread, there are some movies that are really messed up and are made purely to depress you. That may be a bit extreme for Diablo, but atleast we would be feeling something similar to what people living in a world thats invaded by evil would (or atleast should) be feeling. Come on, if the pure essence of hate came into our world, everyone would HATE each other, which would lead to all sorts of violence and immoral things. Same with terrorising and destroying things. It would be uncontrolable. (Like with the Rage virus in 28 Days Later).
The most messed up movie I've seen is The Butterfly Effect. It has the concept of sex, and I suppose something that resembles a sex scene or two, but the main part of it is that little kids are killing dogs and babies and each other - but its all because their dad beat one of them and raped the other. Violence is only half of it. The other half is sex.

But in Diablo, you'll have much satisfaction killing demons who don't just kill people but rape them, too.
For some reason, that sentence really hit me. You said it really well.
So, to expand on that, our minds give the demons a lot more power potential. Our minds associate sex with other things too, like testosterone, rage, passion and violence. Now these demons don't just kill, but rape and torture too. They tortured before, but when the concept of sex is involved, torture becomes passionate and much more violent. So combining them together you have this demon who is so much more dangerous. Even dangerous for men too, because now its like territorial competition. Think of your pet dog. When he or she comes into season, you don't want them outside because they would do anything for sex. It becomes passionate. They would bark so loud their voice box would strain but they wouldn't care, they just want out.
Succubi too are associated with passion because they are sexually orientated.
Succubi are among the most zealous minions of their master. They possess an incessant craving for blood, especially that of human men, and they take to battle with a passion and a joy not often seen in demons.
I think it can be easily concluded that its their sexual desires that fuel their passion. They are the only demons in game that are associated with sex. This makes them dangerous, and scarier. I want to see more demons acting like this, don't you?

Also is something scarier with or without genitals? You decide
I've already asked that.
Visible genitals -> sex -> passion -> more dangerous -> more scary
Hidden genitals -> more modest -> looking after self better -> dangerous but without passion
If you're passionate, you wouldn't care if your junk is showing or not.
lol, diablo's junk in your face, ew. But nah, we aren't talking about it being that obvious.
Long post, sorry, I was a way for a while, and this subject is popular.
EDIT: On a side note, I only play Hardcore, because its more realistic and so much more thrilling with the fact that I very well may die if I'm not careful.

The Hulk is a human who manages to keep his pants on. Humans have dignity while demons don't necessarily have to have any.

Diablo I:
Diablo II:
But for demons, we don't know if they even have hormones.
Uh, I guess I'll make a new tally-count.
No-genitals: 28
Yes-genitals: 26
Sorry, Phrozen, yes-genitals sped up.

No genitals -> 20 votes (Option 1)
Great Evil genitals (including minor demons) -> 11 votes (Option 2)
Minor-demon genitals -> 12 + 11 = 23 votes (Option 3 + 2)
