I prefer 1h/mojo, but I've played with a skorn as well. A life steal skorn will help you get through r/d until you figure out other tactics.
Life steal is preferrential in almost every case. Except for 150k and less DPS with an acid cloud build.
Running bats, get a ls/cd/socket weapon, and a good mojo. Thing of the Deep is a very poor choice for bats, unless you need the regen. However, if you minimize your attack speed, 4 piece zunimassa is completely ample. The pickup radius is a complete waste if you have more than say 5 yards.
Skorn is more than capable of being great DPS. My skorn is only a 10k DPS loss over a great1h and a near top US mojo. The biggest loss is an opportunity for more vitality. Skorn synergizes well with WD because it conserves mana and promotes huge hits with channeled spells.
