That makes it one of the most ancient religions in history of man, along with Hinduism and Judaism. In contrast Christianity is only a little less than 2000 years old.
My point was "thousands of years" sounds a LOT longer than 2500.

Female Buddhist nun do not share the same status as male monks, but only in Indochina, which means Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, etc, as well as Tibet.
It was 20002 when the first female monk IN THAILAND was ordained.
Nuns in China and India had been ordained ever since Buddha allowed women to be nuns, which is about 2500 years ago.
I meant to add the Thailand part, but skipped over it when typing. Will edit*
My point about woman being monks/nuns is: Because they weren't allowed the same title as the men, were they trained to fight with the men? I'm pretty sure just about every country didn't allow female warriors.. Not sure. That has nothing to do with our argument since the monk in Diablo is in a different universe and loosely based on the Monk from our world.
True, but the difference is that you said "Nobody".
Like I have already asked: How would you know that nobody would like a bald female monk?
Yeah I could have said "Well on average 68.3% of users taking the "Bald Monk" poll voted "I don't like it" " but I chose to use the word "Nobody" instead, since it's short and easy. Obviously there are people who would like it, but I believe most people would not. All the coments I see in the B.Net forums are all along the lines of:
"The female monk looks like a man her hair is too short"
"Why does she have dyed hair, and it's too short, she doesn't look womanly. And she's not showing enough skin."
"If I couldn't see her tits I'd think it was a man she needs longer hair."
So I apologize for using the word "Nobody."

Besides, having a bald female monk isn't actually a strange practice: Chinese female buddhist monks (or nuns) have always been shaved bald for thousands of years.
Furthermore, having a shaved head doesn't obscure a woman's feminine features at all if you are already a beauty.
I 100% agree that having a shaved head doesn't obscure a woman's femininity. I will, however, point out to you that most of the internet doesn't agree with people like us. To give you an example, Mass Effect 2. The character named Jack, tattooed up buzz cut sporting girl, very awesome character, cool story, powerful teammate. 90% of the forum readers who decided to comment despise her because she "looks like a man" and "she dresses like a lesbian." They can't see past the short hair and tattoos to the beauty hiding beneath.
Buddhism has been around for like 2500 years, that's only two thousands. Female monks (nuns) as far as I recall do (did?) not share the same status or privileges as the males. I think it was 2002 when the first female "monk" was ordained... 2002. That would be the tail end of times changing I think since I'm fairly sure they weren't allowed the title of monk 2500 years ago.
They will surley be fixed since they are fixing the fe-barbarian. The monk come later in design in all aspects I guess. But it will be "perfect". Im sure of it!
Oh for sure, I don't doubt that most of the classes will have changes made before release. I'm fairly sure the pics of the monk are just concept art right now anyways, right? We have yet to see her in-game.
You simply wouldn`t know that as an fact unless it actually happened.
Also: That is a standard nun-cut (kinda.) Long hair is considered vain. Her hair is slightly longer than nuns back in the day.
Every decision Blizzard makes has those who like it and those who hate it. I'll bet you a hoard of pirate treasure that if they made the female monk bald, the majority would despise it saying it's not a womanly thing.
I'm on the fence - I don't hate the female monk, I don't love the female monk - but the only problem I have personally with her is the shoulderpads.
As a conventional textbook answer: "The main purpose of character design is to embody any significant personalities traits and attributes of the said character into a visual representation that audience can easily identify with."
In the case of the female monk, it portrays an utterly incorrect image to the gamers.
A monk is a religious person striving for spiritual enlightenment, which relates to humbleness, simplicity, a connection to nature, etc.
A monk is not a fashion conscious materialist that spends 3 hours in a salon perfecting her hair.
If it was indeed a professional design team who drew the female monk, they could have done a much better job.
Sigh. I can shake my head of hair and it lands the same way as hers. I do not go to salons. Since she's a religious person striving for personal enlightenment (is that what Diablo monks do? I thought they made people explode with their fingers) why not just make her bald like the other one? Because nobody would like it and they wouldn't shut up about it until the game is either launched or changed.
Personalities, traits, and attributes. She's a female monk in the world of Diablo. She is bad-ass. She kills demons from the burning pits of hell with her bare fucking hands. That hair seems more militant than frivolous. It's short, not in her eyes, not long enough someone can grab it in a fight.
I think the male Barbs haircut is stupid let's give him a mullet.
But I also don't like the hairstyle much, too modern and trendy for a "monk", who is supposed to be humble and should have already reached a level of spiritual enlightenment to NOT follow shallow fashion trends of the mere mortals.
Too trendy. Okay why don't we give her a bowl cut and be done with it?
The people who created her are a design team, sure she could have had less stylish hair, but then you'd complain that she looks bland and needs something to make her look cooler.
Seth why did you close the Monk Reveal thread in the Monk forums but leave the Monk Reveal thread in general? Seems a little backwards lol

I'm having mixed feelings. I'm not a fan of the Monk class - I don't think it's weak, I don't think it's merely a support class, I don't bash on it, etc - it's just not a play style I think I'd personally like. However, after making my male Wizard I had planned on trying a female Monk, just to try it out, never know maybe I'll like it. The art here seems... business-womany, I think her hair would have been better a light brown or red (too bad Barb got that =/) and that armor seems too heavy to do Monk-things in. I could be wrong, this is just concept art, right? We'll have to wait and see her in action.
