I am glad you guys are trying it out, that's what it's all about!
Yup, it's tons of fun in Acts I and II. Though in Act III I got owned. I guess I'm giving up too many defensives with the crit gear I had. I'll have to look for some more Vitality/All Resist/Strength/Crit gear later.
How are you doing with the build post-patch? Were you all that heavy on IAS? Would you still recommend IAS over Crit and Crit Damage? Also, I was thinking about trying Frenzy, but you said in one of your videos that you found Bash to have a longer reach. Do you still find this the case?
Sorry for all the questions. I've got the build down myself, but I wanted some info that I can't get right now since I just started this today.
No problem, I am using frenzy now since I can take hits (a lot of hits lol). I also switched out some survivability for MF gear, I am up to 310% with NV now. I am moving away from IAS although it still is a great stat its harder to get on gear. I am focuing a lot more on crit dmg/crit chance + MF gear with high STR. I am just facerolling stuff now its not that much fun :(.
the reason i "hate" OP is because there is a very good chance he either bought the gold for $$ or played DH first/got carried in co-op and getting that much gold
I furnished a screenshot for you, as you can see I have almost 10k elite kills and 13m+ looted. Still think I bought gold? Also I never had a DH I rolled a WD at one point but stopped playing it. I farmed act 2 goblins with my friends until I was geared enough to go into act 3 alone. with my barb.
now the problem of him having so much gold is that these videos dont represent the real state of the class because as i said before everyone and their grandma know that barb is very good with top gear, but if you undergear content by just a bit you'll get raped
I disagree with this one, like you said everyone knows barbs are gear dependent same as warriors and rogues in WoW. The only difference here is that you don't just have to gung-ho in to enemies, you can kite them around. Like I have said earlier the defensive play style of 2h isn't for everyone but it is rewarding in its own right.
fun fact: guy has same amount or even more resist/hp than defensive barbs while still rockin' 90k dps, he has that good gear and gl to everyone thinking they can do act 3/4 as 2handed barb with 15mil invested
Hehe I wish. The shield block + armor adds quite a bit of survivability I also lost 200+ all resists when I went for more crit/crit dmg, IAS, and MF. As for the last bit it is quite contradicting however I know what you are trying to say but I disagree inferno act3 is def doable even with quite a bit less gear than I have. I wouldn't try farming act 4 though them subjugators are nasty nasty ;)!
I forgot to open my details page in the video I apologize and I added a screenshot here.
and Cygone is right it is affected by weapon damage + str. IAS only affects how fast you can seismic slam which doesn't make it very desirable although it does help the rage generation.
Too many haters. SaracenS seems like a nice guy, I don't see why some of you are trying to infer else-wise.
Regardless of how many other threads there were, the purpose of this thread was just to demonstrate that it is possible to play Barb without sword/board and stomp on everything. I enjoyed the videos and the overall content/information of this thread. It's just fun to watch and see all the different ideas behind every 2H Barbarian's tactics. I've cleared everything on Inferno except Diablo - it would definitely be more fun to clear it this way though :P.
All in all, I don't think this is as hard as some of you think it is. I wasn't fortunate enough to have the luck SaracenS did (not hating on you bud), but I'm pretty close to being able to do what he does. I'll give him props for being helpful and not being an asshole like the bulk of the professional gamers ("hey come watch my stream and donate money so I can show you how to play!").
You prolly don't know that but youtube actualy pays for viewers...
$ 0.0033/1 view
$ 3/1,000 view
$33/ 10,000 views
$330/ 100,000 views
$3300/ 1,000,000 views
So yeh, he is not the "watch my stream guy", he is "watch my youtube"
If I read this correctly a youtube partnership requires you to have 100k views to even begin to be monetized. Please don't try to make it out like I was doing this for me. My only intention was to get other people to think outside the box a bit and have some fun while they were at it :). I hope I did that and on the same token I also understand where you are coming from, as the brits would say 'cheers'.
Its obvious that this kinda steamrolling act3 inferno requires alot of gold, thats the game,
right now still farmin up sword/board style being poor in gold as fuck, but thats kinda how u gotta start with it right Sarac?
That's how I started, however I was lucky enough to pick up a justice lantern for 500k and a 31% vit rolled SS for 10mil. This was weeks and weeks ago though no chance in that anymore :(.
a lil more intel on how u came to that point in terms of farming would be nice, of course it requires a lot of time;
I geared for pure defense until I could kill/survive and then started subbing in items with more str/crit/crit dmg and IAS when I found them on the AH, in game or was gifted them. I slowly moved from 10k dps to 35k dps 1h while maintaining my survival stats and then simply splurged and bought a huge 2h and sold my sword and shield all in.
despite the gear, my group still lil low in dps, me running round 70k hp close to 800 allres and cute sacred shield not immortal though and wanna provide maximum support so we can farm more easly, thx bro luv ur idea of giving inspiration to others
I tried pure tanking for my friend who was a glass cannon DH while my dps was still low and honestly it didn't work all that well until I went pure defensive abilities/passives. At that time I could do a decent job of keeping stuff bottled up for him. I also tried a stun build which wasn't terrible but it also wasn't amazing. I assume it would be kind of nice if you had a nice tanky monk in front of you. Just keep up the farm you will get there, be persistent! =
This thread was intended to inspire more Barbs to consider using 2 handers. The fact the Op has a ton of gold invested into his gear is beside the point. You can still be viable as a 2 hand barb without sinking as much gold into your gear as the Op has. Now you probably won't be steam rolling near as hard but you can still be sucessful and have a blast doing it.
Thanks for getting this back on topic. I only made this to inspire people to try it out for themselves! For those who are hating, thats fine but I think you will get to the level soon enough you can try it for yourselves and maybe you will take some of it back ;).
Would you consider one weapon type superior to another - assuming they have similar stats of course - simply because of their bonus from Weapons Master?
Sword is simply better, mace is better than axe due to the lower base attack speed.
I disagree. The only item that will cost a massive amount is the weapon. Even that, you don't need to get a 1700 dps weapon to [just as] easily destroy the trash.
If you put 9m (roughly the cost of a Stormshield + decent 1H weapon), you could get a nice 1400 dps 2H that should do the job just fine.
This is accurate. Furthermore the higher DPS you have + slower weapon is better (with higher dps of course) is the best for this build. The axe I had was .25 faster than a mace with similar +IAS. Seismic slam would be hitting 20%+ harder if my weapon was a mace instead of an axe.
Going to try out your spec when I get around to going back to Act 3. Thanks for the videos and I agree with the others when saying You shouldnt stop with just these clips!
Thanks for the encouragement! I think those wizard items might be a small loss compared to what you would face if she found your auction history instead ;)!
I really appreciate you posting and sharing all of this info btw, thanks!
I feel like I am (or was in your case) in the same boat as you. Currently I am a sword/board spec, 14k dps, 10k armor, 63k hp, 1200+ All Resists.. and it just sucks! All my friends kill Siegebreaker/Azmodan in seconds and it takes me at least an hour to get 5 stacks and get to that point. I might just go all in and do what you did
Another question though (sorry for being annoying with all of these too) but is it really necessary to have 1000-1100 All Resists when your dps is that high? (I think I calculated your gear to have 788 All Resist based on the first video.) I feel like when you get to the point you're at, you only need about 600-700 because most of those demons wouldn't stand a chance with Pain/Zerk/Quake up!
It isn't an annoyance I am happy to answer your questions! But yes the survivability is quite necessary because you need to survive long enough to press 3 2 1 and also trash will sometimes hit you especially range. I have between 850-1050 resist with shout, the 1050 being physical which I pair with fire as being the most important. If I was running with 600-700 resistance I am sure I would die more. Also that said I have dropped all resistance in some slots like helm but I plan on getting those back asap. High armor on items is also essential to being 2h because the 10:1 armor resist ratio is much harder to achieve without a shield or armor passives.
Your first videos? These are actually really well done and you should consider doing some more!
Yeah it really was my first video I went through 3 programs trying to combine my 3 minute fraps clips. 3 hours later I finally did it! I uploaded it to youtube and then it told me it was too long... so I gave up for the night and found the willpower to persevere the next morning lol :).
And thanks for the compliment it really means a lot!
My real question is... how much of a difference does a weapon make?
I have 28k dps using a lame blue 2H axe (1056.1 dps, +19% damage). If I were to buy a 1300 dps axe (with IAS), would it literally add like 20k dps?
To put this in perspective I went from 35k DPS with a 950 1h with about equal str as the 2h I equipped, to having over 70k DPS when I equipped the 1700 dps 2h and switched around my passives!
So maybe its better to stay shield/sword until you can finally fund all of this.
I would say that really depends on your sword/shield and your gear built around it. At one point I had 10k dps a string/ss/lantern and helm of command and I slowly started moving away from that until I thought I was comfortable with my gear being used for going 2h. I then went all in and bought a weapon and haven't looked back!

Edit: I remembered wrong.
People have a good reason to hate, don't hate on them for hating ;).
