Tbh, i kind like TL's art direction. It's an cartoon steampunk, and i just love steampunk. It's also somewhat original - it's not mediaval, nor is sci-fi and it's not something in between. You may not like it, but it has very original, wich is allways good imo.
Torchlight itemisation is surely the WORST part of the game. Theres a ton of items with equal graphics but different name and/or stats, the req. seens to be generated randomly (worst idea EVER), majoiryt of the mods are useless, items doesn't have a good identity, they are all bland and boring. You better ignore the loot part of the game.
The problen with the skills is that some are just unpratical or does not scale properly. The extremely low variety is also a big problen. However the game have some really good features in that area - mainly the scroll spells. Imo this is a excelent idea to make anything possible. You can give firebolt to the destroyer and make a caster one, you can give dervish to a alchemist and make a melee alchemist, etc...Rly cool imo.
True. You just have to keep recasting then.
The greastest quality of torlight are the monster design. It's a lot better then any other game of the genre if you ask me, even D2. While D2 have a few memmorable monsters, 80% of what you face are just meatballs running in your direction. In TL every single monster have a special skill and that skill really matters! What kept me playing the game was that the combat is allways fresh because whenever you change map you have to face many different kinds of threat wich is really fun. I think people need to concentrate more on the combat andless in the character build part of the game, or else you will get really frustrated.
TL is far from an bad game, but also far from a good one. It just have a totally broken mechanic. However the core of the game, the gameplay, is really good. Had a lot of fun learning how to defeat the damn Dark Zealot and their finger of death spell hehe
