Sure, it would radically change our need for entertainment devices, but it woun't ruin the economy. I strongly doubt that the features for this "console" will be free. You will probably pay for everything that isn't considered basic. But it would of course be much much cheaper and better for the environment.
oh, i didn't mean that it would ruin the economy... but the changes would be enormously impredictable... i think that's the limit of reasonable speculation...
that's the whole thing... if you get a system that could virtualy extend the lifespan of a person, just imagine the consecuences that could bring into economy!!!!
oh yes of course... i totally agree that it will be very important, as internet is today or maybe more... but i still think that virtual reality won't take ALL the time from peoples life... at least not the majority
well... like every other new media in the history of human kind is supoused to replace the previous ones... so don't worry, i'm sure it wont be that importnatn in peoples life
How about rather than being connected directly between your brain and the system, you step into a large sphere that has a 3-d screen in every direction. You run and swing with your real body, and this translates into the game and what you see, hear etc.
already done:
Whether you like it or not, virtual reality will be created, despite any and all fears you may have of its consequences. When there is a market for it, it will be developed. If it can be done, it will be done. There's no stopping it
I just hope to still be alive to try it out (I would prefer to die by Diablo scaring me than to die all quietly in bed anyway).
agreed, but as it's a more complex and delicate technology is good to start talking about it even before we know how to make things happned.. just in case
i'm sure that if this virtual reality mechanism is created, then there will be the enough knowldege about how the brain works to automatically detect and adjust the levels of pain and fear... like if you are too stressed in the game then the software reduces the gore to make it bareable... the same with pain... this feature of course could not be changed freely so a child can't harm himself...
You can just wear a helmet that sends and recieves brain signals. You don't need to physically wire yourself to a computer xD
that made me remember about another article, there's this doctor that send magnetic pulses to the voluntiers and that caused some sort of synesthesia... i'll try to find it...
oh no... i don't have idea, i just said that because of some article i read some time ago... and those investigations are in first phases so they don't have an idea on how yo make complex stuff.. but they can make u feel you have a one meter nose
as we are speculating here, i just pointed that out to show an alternative to the "matrix" concept of virtual reality... something that doesn't require a hole in your neck:O
Free movement in a virtual world is only possible by hooking up computers directly to your brain. They will replace all signals from your body to simulate a virtual world. This is at least what we have been discussing (if you read the prvious posts). I challenge you to come up with another way of creating full virtual reality (Matrix style)
experimetns are being conducted to understand the mechanisms behind the sensitive ilussions, like optical islussions. This could develop into something that instead of replacing your brain signals, manipulate them to make you feel something different... but it would produce a very similar effect tho...
Nacho_ijp has made a perfectly valid prediction to the solution of safety-guards.
i want to thank my parents and my manager for all the... what? this isn't eh academy awards??... :P:P:P
As a side note: if playing these virtual reality games would be like having a dream, is it possible to be psychologically harmed by a scary event in the game? i.e. are there any long-term side effects to having a scary nightmare?
And of course, if you can't handle the scare, you won't buy the game!
mmm... could be... but i belive it's unlikely... i had terrible nightmares because of D1 and i think it didn't leave long-term side effects... same with this things imo...
you could have security mecanisms to kick you out of the game if it crashes or if you are too scared... anyone saw Surrogates? that concept mixed with eXistenZ movie conept would make a great virtual reality system
They said that Diablo III will close the story that started with Diablo I, which could indicate that it's going to be the last we will see of Diablo! However, the Diablo Universe has really expanded since the first game, and I'm sure they can think of a new story that doesn't involve Diablo in particular! For example, I would really like to see the Sin War as a new storyline, even though it happened before the original Diablo Trilogy!
good idea... like a precuel... you could even talk to the horadrim that wrote the tomes of D1 always wanted to meet those guys
yeah, i have a double feeling about it... it's like i don't want it to end, because i want to keep on playing diablo, but i know that if it doesn't it will "screw itself over"... so, to answer your question: one one side, i'll be down, but on the other hand i'll be happy, because we got the best out of the story and the games
oh, i didn't mean that it would ruin the economy... but the changes would be enormously impredictable... i think that's the limit of reasonable speculation...
well... that would be entireyly differten... if we could simulate different time speed, like in dreams... that might take our entire life...
who are you calling idiot???!! .... oh... yeah... we are:P:P:P
