for me personally i like to get to know some of the other people i play with and who is actually sitting behind the keyboard, not some story/character that they made up. but everybody has their preferences..
It' by no means supposed th feel like a chore RP'ing, if that's the case then you're better of on a PvE/PvP server.
I personally think it's quite fun pretending you're the character you play as. But remember this, only the /say and /yell are the real roleplaying channels. General, trade, LFG, Party, Guild and whispers are all out of character unless you want them to be for roleplaying as well. So if you want to know someone, feel free to, just don't talk to them in regular /say.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

ive never played on an RP server before, whats it like exactly? do you really have to develop somekind of story behind ur character? and if so how is that incorporated into the game?
The RP aspect is handled rather bad by Blizzard. I'll use Argent Dawn EU as an example, since that's where I play.
Let us assume the server has 10.000 players.
5.000 of those are completely unaware of the fact that they're on an RP server and have no idea what RP means.
2.000 have since learned what RP stands for, but don't want to leave the server because of guilds etc.
2.000 are regular roleplayers who more or less live in to their character, or try to as best they can (this is me)
1.000 are hardcore roleplayers who roleplay fulltime. They organize RP events like competitions, parades, weddings, parties and other events. Some of those are quite well-known on the server.
But, there are no form of additional functions that Blizzard grants you. Roleplaying is incorporated through mods such as FlagRPS for lack of anything else.
Myself, I stay in character when out in the world and drop the charade in instances where there's just no time to do it. But it really becomes taxing to roleplay when everyone you meet says "Hai do u know where I kill Ruul for this quest?"

i can only agree with the last post. The RP servers not only suggest, but "force" public Role Play on the servers (even though the trade channel kinda has to be "WTS etc etc, WTB etc etc"). But in any way, if you want to form your character (and reputation on the server) in a certain way, you definitely can.
In theory, but many players in the RP realms don't even know they're there. I should know, I played with them.
You are almost "required" to buy the expansions though, since the majority of all players buy them, there's simply nothing for you to do in the game once you reach lvl 60 and everyone else is lvl 80. The in-game economy was insanely inflated once Burning Crusade was released, and I suspect the same thing will happen once again, making lvl 60's unable to buy anything of value. Besides, no one will be farming the items they can use, and even if they did get them, they would have no one to play with. Everybody would be lvl 70/80.
But given how much potential enjoyment you get out of WoW, it's very cheap in my opinion. Just buy the expansion it until it gets boring and stop worrying about it.

Metzen talked about "Warcraft 4" a while ago, so i wouldnt think of it as impossible to see in the future. The Lich King and more arent as essential for the Warcraft Lore either. They didnt exist (just as Illidan, Jaina Proudmoore, Thrall etc) before Warcraft 3. What makes it so impossible to have new lore coming with Warcraft 4? (and again more major lore characters to kill in WoW 2 perhaps in distant future?).
Exacly. Thrall, Cairne, Illidan, Malfurion, Tyrande, Jaina, Sylvanas, Kel-thuzan and Arthas, they were all inrtoduced in WC3. Yet suddenly it somehow became impossible to invent new characters with the emergance of WoW?

So Kel'Thuzad was defeated hmm? Does that mean he'll stay that way? Characters in Warcraft have a tendency to not stay dead.
Naxxramas is returning as a lvl 80 instance, wit hrevamped gear and difficulty. This implies, nay, certainly confirms, that Kel'thuzad will be returning also (since he is is the last boss in Naxxramas, a huge flying Necropolis).

Kil'Jaeden is more like the brains of the Legion. So far the most powerful entities i know of (one to be defeated soonish) are Sargeras (prolly distant future) the Dark Titan, then Arthas (i so want to kill this guy) and Anub'Arak (the fallen Nerubian King, former ruler of the nerubian kingdom of Ajzol-Nerub in Northrend).
You forgot the Old Gods. C'Thun most certainly isn't dead, though I don't think we'll see him again. Three other Old Gods are still out there, specifically one in Northrend. Since the Aqir worshipped the Old Gods before the Titans came to Azeroth, it's more than likely that if any Nerubians avoided undeath, they're serving another Old God.
Then there's still the mystery of Sargeras initial corruption. In the original lore, the Eredar and Nathrezim corrupted him. But with the new revamp, making Sargeras the corrupot of the Eradar instead, that leaves the Nathrezim as the sole agents for his fall. Either they have some pretty bad-ass leader yet to be revealed, or there has to be some other form of demon out there yet to be revealed. Or at least that's my perspective.
