I think the point most of us find so repulsive is the apparent limitation of freedom. Everyone who lives in a democracy has pretty much been taught freedom is like the holy grail, you don't mess with it, in any way. There is, however, a philosophical issue here.
Freedom exists by the grace of restrictions.
If you think about it, you're "free", because others aren't "allowed" to take your freedoms away. That's a direct limitation on their freedom. We're free, as much as the gouvernment allows us to. And without this, there would be anarchy.
Therefore, we're free to the degree that our norms and values allow us. Their norms and values are different, therefore their amount of "freedom" is different aswell. This is why I don't think we should be too quick to judge this. =)
Somehow I have a feeling some people who are currently finishing highschool would've already had a doctorate if their gaming time had been limited :3
This is a hollow post, unless you can give some actual examples. Just saying there 'are' examples doesn't do anything. 'Protecting people from themselves', holy shit how commie can you get? I might slip and fall, so you should just tie me up in a padded room. Also, what 'more results' are you talking about?
I'm so very, very sorry... I should know better than to express an opinion other than yours :'(
How come everything Americans disagree with is labeled with the derogatory term "commie"? o.o Communism is a beautiful idea, that sadly mankind isn't ready for. It's stalinism that deserves the bad rep here. =)
About your attack to my previous statement though. Ever heard of traffic lights and speed limits enforced even on empty roads, anti drug laws, compulsory school attendance and forced commitment after a suicide attempt? I would like to extend an apology for my assumption that you had the capacity to come up with these examples on your own, it is sometimes difficult to place yourself in the shoes of a cognitively limited American such as yourself =)
As a side note; I don't necessarily agree with this law. But I do see their point ^^
I'm sorry, but there are a lot of examples of laws protecting people from themselves in the USA aswell. (And other Western countries, for that matter). I don't quite see how this is a ridiculous one, although it seems a bit hard to actually enforce.
Their culture is different from ours. We have more free time and less social pressure, they have more results. Who's to say they're "doing it wrong"?
