I really hate the "get a girlfriend" kind of advice, tho. You can't just "get" a girlfriend like she's some kind of object you buy in a grocery store. If a man cannot occupy himself without some random girl... he'll only get random girls.
that's because they don't consider (the trainers) the robotics team as anything that deals with competing.
Well we call our trainers mentors. And we do compete. In mental skill of putting a robot together, in driving skill as far as controlling the robot, in cheering and support, and in tactics on the field, and in forming teams with people we have just met. I think there is some competition going on there. If it doesn't involve people hitting each other it doesn't mean it's not competition.

Now granted i understand that people can get hurt anytime anywhere, but it's that whole mentality that if you get hurt you have to be on a sports team
Getting hurt is a bad thing, no matter where you are. Sure you should be ready for it, and robotics people are also ready for it because you can't avoid EVERYTHING that's going to happen, but the mentality is different. Sports hurt is good, robotics hurt is bad.
I wouldn't necessarily say they were barbarians, considering they were smart enough to get to the New World...
Historians say they were barbarians. Historians > you.
Speaking of trainers.
I really hate the attitude most trainers seem to have about injuries. On our robotics team, if someone gets hurt, it's an issue and means someone did something dumb or dangerous. On a sports team, injuries are "ok" or even "good". What kind of attitude is that.
Yes heroes is a good show, and yea thats Texas where football is huge and very competitive. Up here in the north, football's not too competitive and we're a lot smarter than them.
Minnesota is North...
Trainers are dumb because they are taught to deal with dumb players...
yeah, we have one of those sleds, they aren't cardboard, their heavily padded dummies and you don't EVER hit those with your head. Yeah, we banged heads before games but not really hard. We would actually get punished if we led a hit with our head.
Good... hitting stuff with your head is bad... very bad...
Uh, pads, foam? No cardboard, and if the football players were hitting them with their heads they're retarded because you're supposed to hit them with your shoulder, hitting with your head is how you snap your neck and we are never told to lead a hit with our head.
In Heroes they were hitting with their HEADS. I asked Joe he said he did the same and they called it "toughening up". Maybe it varies from state to state.
off topic to off topic: the best place to get hit in the head when in a boxing ring, or any other form of getting hit in the head, is the front of your head.
You know how many boxers end up with Alcheimers disease?
I don't think it's cardboard, haha. Those things would torn to pieces if it was cardboard. It's some weird industrial squishy stuff, don't exactly know what it is.
Well, I saw them in a movie they looked cardboard, that wasn't my point, again.
Yeah, im still confused by cardboard things, we never hit anything that was cardboard.
Well, according to LinkX they aren't cardboard. BUt you missed my point. I don't care what you hit. If you hit ANYTHING with your head I don't respect you. Because your head contains those brains. You injure your brains you are an idiot.
What cardboard things and ive never broken a single bone?
Big cardboard things, shaped like a human, football players come up and bang their heads against them. After that I lost all the puny respect I ever had for them.
Never broke a bone? Either you suck or are very lucky.

Mentors > Trainers. We got some college guys as mentors, they know their stuff.
