If the angels were immortal it wouldn't have been much of a war up until now would it? I hardly doubt that Izual led the ill-fated assault upon the Hellforge alone, he must have had more angels with him. And all of them were most likely not corrupted, if any of them was. That would indicate that angels can die.

About the nine hells, that is from christianity, and while Diablo gets a lot of inspiration from there (read: Rip off), there is always only mentioned one Hell, as in
Mephisto:...before the burning standards of Hell
Mephisto: Diablo, sent forth your terror, into Hell
Nowhere is it mentioed as nine planes, just one plane.

And what happens when someone do tries to do something? He gets called a rogue, is deemed corrupted by his allies, and is foretold to be cast out of Heaven. Way to go all you would-be good guys.

Against the rules? Why should they establish a rule that prevents them from acquiring the key to victory? If that is the case, then congrats Hell, you were smarter and you won.

Yes, that seems the most logical reasoning. However, it doesn't agree with what we've seen from Heaven so far.
Both sides know that Sanctuary is the key to victory. And while the demons have consistently been active in teh world, the angels have drawn themselves back. Why is that? Without humans, Heaven will fall, so they must be willing to put in as much effort as possible. Yet they don't.
Hopefully D3 will answer this question.

I like that. Except for the corrupt Tyrael part. Though of course if you removed it, the rest of the story would be impossible.
But I really believe that the destruction of the Worldstone is to make demons a bigger (if that is possible) part of a sequel. Possibly angels too, if the Worldstone barrier is set to prevent them from entering too.

"Hey guys, we have this race here against hell, and the only way to win is to run the fastest. So let's shoot ourselves in the foot."
That is exacly what they are doing if Sanctuary is the key to victory.
