You are getting off topic, since the purpose of this thread is to welcome a user, and not to argue. Could you put something like this in the spam forum or something? I'm sure this isn't making a good impression.
But not everyone here is as opened minded as you, Zubin. To assume everyone here, or even the majority, posses that gift would not be right. I would bring up an example here, but it would be too controversial, I feel, and I don't want to start something in this thread, when we're trying to welcome somebody to the forums
Oh, no, I'm not saying that... Well, maybe I was, but have since changed my mind. The ultimate point of these forums is to circulate news about a possible Diablo 3 and any other Diablo related news, as well as some other things (I.E. the clan here, and the respective forums for SC and WC/WoW), but also, people's words will not be listened to correctly or heeded if the person saying them has no respect from other people. Bias is a terrible thing, it can turn even the most logical sentences in to a deadly viper's bite.
Now that I think of it, I have an example. It's kind of like how someone tries to keep a thread on topic, but the offenders hold no respect for the person, and thus do not listen to her/him. They can be right, but with the proper dosage of "I hate you" pills, no one will hear the person, no matter how right he/she is. I think that might be a little clearer?
I was merely saying that at least for me, some respect is a comforting thought, enough atleast so that whenever I post something I'm not flamed or picked on immediately, like some other unfortunate members here. In any case, I was not speaking for everyone, Explorer, since I am not omniscient (spell check?) and cannot, therefore (spell check?), know every single person's personal opinions. I wasn't talking about seniority respect, either. For instance, I would not expect any respect due from any of you toward me, since I really haven't contributed anything yet to the forums, but at the same time, a new member to the forums should not be treated like dirt. I want to say it's something similiar to "Don't judge a book by its cover" or "Innocent until proven guilty". And as for the people who've been here for a long time and have 5,000 posts, I am not inclined to give any of you any more respect whatsoever than what I deem your character (displayed through your posts) worthy of having. Not to say respect from me is anything great. Hmm... Do you get me?
Respect matters at all times. The fact that this is internet doesn't mean this place is "less important" or "less influential". It's a thing called good manners. Good manners when you respect people you don't know, and say hi to them, and smile to them.
Just saw that and decided to add it. That's what I mean in a nutshell, in a much more condensed and easily read version
Being respected on the forums is not such a big deal is it?
It is, to the people that are on here so much, I'd assume. In general, my reputation is very important to me, but I wouldn't kill myself over not being respected by some people, because no matter what you will eventually offend someone and then they'll hate you forevermore on that basis, or at least that's what I've observed in the other forums I frequent.
And on a side note, unless your post pertains to the welcoming of the poster of this thread, you're getting us off topic
