I haven't modelled anything with it yet but I will post a concept art before I do my modeling. Learning 3d max right now. Oh why did I not take this course in school! (Hits his head gently against the wall). Dope!
I notice that alot of people would prefer Diablo 3 perspective to remain the same....very interesting. Lets hope blizzard listens to its fanbase.
About the programs I think commonly used in the game industry and graphic design field:
3D Max - 3D modeling
Photoshop - image editing, texturing
Illustrator - for creating 2d vector flat images
If you want to go pro, I suggest you get a waccom mouse, pen, tablet set as its becoming a standard for graphic design work. I cant do anything without my tablet and pen. Havent touched my oils and brushes for a very long time.
I notice too that people who are good in art, drawing, painting, can do away with the other graphic programs and create almost anything 2d from photoshop and even simulate 3d models. Now that is artistic power.
It certainly has that in your face jump at you monster feeling. It shows.
Just a small suggestion, the lower portion of the head appears cut out compared to top section. The top section of the head is more natural and flowing with the bg.
I suppose the bottom appears like a cut out because your head image where it overlaps with the brighter areas of the bg (yellow) creates a more noticeable contrast, even with the fade effect on the edges of the head. This is not happenning with the top portion of the head because this area blends with darker areas of the bg. I hope you see what I am getting at?
I wonder how it will look if you make the bottom area of the head as blended as the top?
Thanks for your insightful input Cynical Pulse, I do agree it doesn't quite fit into the diablo series, and especially the flames around the diablo title.
What I wanted to do was introduce something different in the Diablo series. Instead of your clean cut good versus evil game, I wanted to blur the lines between the two. So you have angels descending down from Heaven breaking the formal code to clean up the mess on earth in their own way, kinda like what Tyrael is believed to be doing according to fan gossip. So the renegade angel I created in this case is doing that, and he would transform (clean up) the earth in his own image. Other angels and even the good humans don't agree with him, so this may potentially lead even the good side fighting amongst themselves....kinda like politics today. There is really no reality, just perception. And I wanted to introduce a new feel or style to the game, which is gothic and dark. I mean we can stick with the blood and gore to identify the forces of evil right away, but I hoped of introducing other styles to associate other forms of beliefs, perceptions, cultures in teh game.
I guess an idea like this is more suited for an open ended world like Oblivion. I dunno just my ideas.
Yes I would agree with you that most messed up art may just reflect a persons messed up head....but whats weird is that maybe insanity, or lets call it weirdness, might be a good indicator of becoming a genious. Let me draw you to some examples of people I think in genious level:
Leonardo Da Vinci - very reserved mysterious guy, wrote backwards, made some really devestating military death machines, other than the usual works we know him by.
Michael Angelo - dissected people to develop his skills in understanding the human anatomy (same goes with Da Vinci).
Lord Byron - Great poet, womanizer, bad boy yet women were still drawn to him. Something to do with his personality and power of words?
Van Gogh - Cut of his ear, famous also for his blue period and sad paintings.
Einstien - Okay he looks really weird, and his theories are out of this world: potential to time travel, 4th dimension, etc.
Plato - Best known philosopher in the world, claims he has an inner voice or guardian, or as he calls it, his inner Daemon, who he talks to for guidance and truth.
Hitler - Hate this guy, he is really crazy in the head with what he caused, but whats amazing is that he managed to rise in power, gain so much control and influence and made the killing of Jews appear a normal thing to do.
Theres probably more. Yep there are those geniouses that are weird but smart, and then there are those who just need to go to an asylum.
I feel exactly the same way about most modern art today. There is one piece from italy where the artist basically had his shit preserved in cans, and the price tag on it is pretty high. Erk..
I argued to some of my profs about how abstract art and some art today is abit of a joke because it requires no skill to make them. Almost anyone can call themselves an artist nowadays. Heck, even a blind folded monkey with a bucket of paint can produce art at this point.
But having been exposed to many visiting artist and doing research on them, I kinda figure that this new method is kinda cool, because if we didn't allow "change", art would stagnate. Imagine if no one came up with "impressionism" or "dada art", and when it first came out everyone really hated it! I'm just saying the way things are done now, odd and weird as it may seem, maybe okay, as it is giving the chance for the field of art to expand and grow. Also, I think that going this route should only be for people who have gained tremendous skill and experience in classical art. In this way, they have credentials to begin with when creating work that even children can easily make.
So basically, I'm just saying that some of the weird art they come up with lately, is okay, because the concept/idea and process in making them becomes just as important as the results now, and they sure make art very interesting to look at.
It looks good. The text is perhaps too close to the left end of the page and the head appears to be floating in black space because it is lacking a body. To avoid this simply include abit more of his shoulders and blend it with the black background like what you've beautifully done. This will give a visual illusion that he has a body within the hadows, and the effect he is rising from it.
Before I start sharing my ideas just wanted to know first if you painted Diablo's head or by chance cut and pasted it from an image then brushed it smooth maybe with photoshop?
Don't see any pic at the bottom of the page you refered to. Only links and text. I apologize if I missed it. Mind giving direct link if possible? Thanks in advance.
well i hope you dont feel that i was hating, i just gave my honest opinion. sorry if you felt attacked. i didnt mean it that way and think its a very well done picture. when im done with my project you will probably laugh. i will welcome critizism but untill then you will all have to bite your lip in anticipation.
Oh hey. I read over my message to you and it does sound abit cold. Sorry about that. Trust me I'm not offended in any way and constructive criticisms is always good. Gone to art school and I'm used to this process. I really appreciate hearing people's take on my work.
Dude i dissagree the diablo 3 is week but the angle is sick man thats a great idea but what skills would he have pally / mage skills would be sick or maby somthing original.... or like Lit skills and enchant Lit for his wepons for some reason lighting and angles go togather i dont know what do u think as the creator Skill wise
Skill wise, I picture him to be able to command nature (eg. Storms, Tsunamis, earthquakes, etc.) Basically control dangerous natural phenomenon. But these are his basic skills in mortal form.
In his angelic form and initially being an angel incharge of creation, his skills and appearance is more godly. He becomes basically part of the players environment, from the ground they walk on to the walls and life around them. His form at this stage basically fuses with the environment. He is harder to beat but at the same time this form weakens him and he has to encase himself in a mortal shell to recharge.
There is this new FPS game where players have the ability to really control their environment as if they were gods. Forgot the name of it, but its a game with amazing physics engine where players can pull almost all objects in an area, and in a group, twist and shape them like they were putty. This kinda what inspired me and oh yeah the game Bullet Witch too.
