Lol, that would be a nice way to piss of their userbase at least.
Don't forget, Blizzard actually loves botters and cheaters. They make tons of money from all the cd keys they have to buy. They want us to think that they are terrible, and in some sense they are, but the bottom line is that Blizzard makes millions of dollars from them.
Their warden software is deliberately ineffective anti-cheating system and is only in place to gather a ton of personal information, with the goal of making more money by understanding their users better.
In this particular game you have the RMAH too. Blizzard's cut is based on a flat fee instead of a percentage I think. So a busy economy with a high volume of sells, actually makes them more money than items staying more rare and moving in slower volume because of high prices. Some ammount of market saturation for things like gems, gold, crafting/craft training items could be beneficial for Blizzard. I was thinking about that a few weeks ago.
I hope they will crack down on bottign and try to make sure it doesn't happen, but the incentive is there to look the other way, or at least subtly try to control how much of it happens.
Imagining your more scholorly posts in the voice of Ernest is highly amusing.
I think it's going to be very hard to make a sucessful bot for D3. Without near unlimited potions, and with content in inferno difficult enough that you have to really think about positioning, targetig and timing, I think it's goig to be very ard to build something to automatically beat those encounters. Building something that will try isn't hard. Buildign something that will have enough success to be worthwhile is a whole other thing.
Molster already told the official stance on this early today in this thread. Apprently general discussion - news type comments that discuss the state of cheats and hacks in the game are permitted - while specifics on actually how to cheat or where to go to find out how are not allowed. Do you take issue with that stance? Because it seams reasonable to me.
Knowing that someone is trying to build a bot for Diablo 3 is very serious and completely legitimate news that effects the game's economy and cooperative aspects. If there are going to be bots joining your public games, do you want to know about it and expect it? Because I do.
If someone intended to lie their way through a debate, would they even bother to admit past cheating? It would be easier just to not say it, right?
And everyone is capable of the truth or lies. If everyone who has ever lied or violated a license aggreemet in a software product can be ignored in debates, there woud be very few people left with a valid opinion.
Plus, like someone said earlier, you can't just invalidate an objective point by saying someone cheated once. You have to demonstrate that what they are saying doesn't make sense.
But I have MAME, BSNES, and NEStopia installed on my machine, so I guess in your world my opinion doesn't count anyway.
I think this portion of the discussion is getting circular. You are saying that if someone has ever cheated in a past game, their opinion on this topic is invalid by default. But that is a completely illogical assumption.
It's easy to prove that it is illogical. Here let's try:
Is it possible for someone that cheated in a past video game to make a valid point in a debate?
Have you looked up what ad hominem means? In an argument you can't just say the other persons point is invalid based on anything other than the point itself.
Like, it's logic 101 man
Be silent with your blashemy, heretic. Your so-called "logic" has no place in this witch hunt. LOL!
This is not Blizzard's site. It is an independent forum about the game. Any news that effects Diablo III seems like fair game, and worth mentioning. A lot of people are wondering how the economy is going to work, and if there will be bots all over the place. People interested in the future of this game will definitely be wondering whether bots will be possible. It is relevant news.
I do think glitches and hacks should be reported to Blizzard. But I don't think posting them here is ireesponsible. Anythig that becomes such common kowledge that it's discussed publicly on major fan sites, blizzard will probably address quickly anyway. And censoring this site definitely won't reduce hacking. The internet is a very big place and once someone finds a way to hack this game, word will spread.
When it happens, people who are playing by the rules will definitely want to know what is going on.

Yes.
There! Proven.
