It also means you can't possibly know the "rating" of your "team" with your friends, if you can't even have a clue (like SC2's leagues) of how high each one of you are.
It's also a nightmare to deal with from the "lvling up" perspective. You're a given rating in lvl 10 because you PvPed a lot without gaining xp and items, then you gain 30 lvls without PvPing, are you still mega high rated? Do you automatically drop when not playing?
I'm all for hidden Elo ratings, SC2 actually works if you ask me (even though most people dislike it), but in that game there's at least SOME sort of showing to your "rating" in the league you're in, and it wouldn't "ruin" D3 or make it excessively PvPish.
The idea is exactly that, if they have it, why don't they have a very simple system to show us.
