item wagers wouldnt work imo. Following conditions should be met for1v1 wager match..
Both players must assert their chance of winning equally i.e 50 50. PlayerA wont accept a gem for his legendary just cus his opponent thinks PlayerA has more chance of winning.
Perceived item worth must be the same, perceived skill and chance of winning must be the same and lastly both players must actually have an item that the other player will accept as wages for their item.
Random chest wont work too if you stop to think about pvp being vanity reward only, balance of what chest contains vs pve, who out of the team gets an item..
Gold wagering sounds awesome and would work on every level. In d2 dead players dropped unstashed gold anyways. Assuming in d3 gold will be more usefull wager matches like there could be very popular and give extra incentive to win.
Theres no need for those silly conditions. The player that accept a waged match against certain person is accepting the risk of loosing. Theres no reason to try to balance anything. Ppl have to learn how to choose their oponenets. Loose is a part of the game.
What's wrong with the ears we got from dueling in D1 and D2? They would actually mean more now in terms of bragging rights, because you couldn't just go around collecting level 85 ears as a level 10 character anymore. I think that anything you gain from PvP should only benefit PvP - for instance, maybe if you get a certain amount of wins, you gain access to a new dueling arena (e.g., maybe you get a new map after 10 wins, then 20, then 40, then 80 etc.).
Why? Things you do in PvE greatly beneficts you on PvP. Whats the problem of became a better farmer on pve cause u own a wager match ?
