I was kind of hoping with the increase of Diablo news and rumors lately, these kinds of issues wouldn't be as big of a deal. Cause they're the kinds of issues people focus on when there's little else to talk about.
Closing has promise though. As I said, with a certain number of posts (Giving the post count a use...) one could be able to close there own threads, given they arn't "tagged" by the moderators. "Tagged" meaning they are not mature enough to handle such power and responsiblity and have had the ability taken away via a check in tehre profile that only moderators would see.
I think you're a reasonable guy Link. So maybe I should reword then add what I've been trying to say because I disagree with you on this closing threads issue.
Once we allow everyone the ability to close their threads, we have to start keeping track of anyone who doesn't do it responsibly. And there could be too great a number of people who might close a thread just because they don't like the way the argument is going. Like if someone is disagreeing with them too much and they wish to stop all the contrary opinions because they don't like how it makes them look.
I'm not saying I think this would really happen much, but at the same time, nor does it happen much where people want to close their own threads. People wanting their own threads closed is seldom enough that the mods alone can handle those requests just fine.
In other words, there really is no issue here that I see. This is just kind of another example of how the larger overall solution is to control the quality of our content and try posting more meaningful threads and posts. The latter especially.
but why can't you delete threads your own threads? or at least close them?
You mean besides the reasons we've already been stating?
We simply don't trust the aggregate with having that ability. And since it is very seldom that someone wants their entire thread closed or deleted, we have a sufficient amount of people to do those things when necessary. I suggest you get over it.
Once you create a thread, it belongs to the community. Closing it would be bad, deleting it would be worse. You are free to delete you own posts at your will. But if we have people just closing threads because they don't like the way they're going, as opposed to closing it for reasons of spam, trolling, or flamewars, things would just get a little crazy around here.
What you are still free to do is if you do not like the way you're thread is going, you may PM a moderator and request that they close the thread. The mods have done this before for people. Rarely do they reopen a thread though.
I should've listened to Carloseus earlier when he said the issue was resolved.

Love the companion cube by the way.

But no, you should not have the power to moderate your own thread.
