I love the idea of small, sharing group (around 10-20 members), but playing on the U.S. region is kinda a dealbreaker for me here, as I'll be playing with my IRL friends on the EU region and don't want to have a set of two characters. Though I like your ideals and enthusiasm so at least I wish you a good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor (I read the Hunger Games before it was cool!).
Edit: Also latency to U.S. servers tends to be quite acceptable, but the random spikes are what scares me. Long live the teh Red Pandas.
There aren't regions in Diablo III. Your characters are account-based and are persistent. The only thing that is region-based is the RMAH. (And obviously the servers the games are hosted on - but not the characters)
False. Characters are region-based. You can have 10 in North America, 10 EU, 10 SEA, etc. No matter what region you play in, the RMAH is tied to your local economy.
