I don't like the idea of an MMO as it will likely be "good nephalem vs evil nephalem" or something similar, and I think that is an extremely stupid idea. If they have a different plan for "sides" or just no opposing sides other than heroes vs the burning hells I might be inclined to give it a chance. I also honestly doubt that Diablo has the same universal appeal to be a successful MMO and I believe that Blizzard knows this. Warcraft was successful because it could draw a much wider audience. Horror has always been pretty niche. I don't think they'll take the risk.
A darksouls/open world type of game in the Diablo universe I would absolutely love, but I have a very strong suspicion that they won't do this. I also find it a bit unlikely that Blizzard will deviate from the core concept of the game which is dungeon crawl/item hunt.
It's a bit late for an expansion, and to keep up with the indistry tthey need to use a newer game engine, so I think we'll be getting a new game. Hopefully a sequel to not scrap the established characters who have unfinished stories. I really hope they get better writers, as Reaper of Souls was better executed than the entire vanilla game. No sublety, dialogue was very bad for bosses, game isn't even a challenge unless you start on expert, everything was made to be "epic" so nothing actually felt like it was, for an M rated game it felt rather childish, too much dialogue that was basically a vehicle to explain extremely easy quests, not enough character development for Leah, a blinking yellow circle on your map made it easy to find everything, you could be asleep and play this game.
I really love this game series, and I want it to be good. I hope Blizzcon will pleasantly surprise me.
