Tested. Does not work anymore. Not sure how they managed to break Inarius even more but they did. I used to do 70-80 with ease in the same exact gear and sheet damage (actually, I have about 30%+ more sheet damage now). Surprisingly, I just die without even getting a few swings in with Bone Armor at max. This is totally broken. It was never this bad. It's been almost a year and they still haven't fixed Inarius. That's disappointing.
Is this build still viable for 70s? Anyone tested it? I have a build close to it and I'm attempting to get above 60 currently but struggling, although I don't have the entire build yet.
For 70's, it should be fairly easy. This is a very tanky solo build. It's not an "elite hunter" type build. You gather as much trash as possible when burning down an elite pack. Since all of your damage comes from Grim Scythe, attack speed is your priority. Cdr is great to proc Bone Armor damage but I wouldn't sacrifice attack speed for Cdr. I think area damage should be second to attack speed then Cdr. If you're looking for speed then this isn't the build for you.
I wrote this build almost a year ago and been gone for almost 8 months. I guess I'll try it out again and give you some feedback based on the new changes. Since I've been back, I've tested a few of my old Inarius builds and they didn't hold up. I'm not sure what happened with Inarius. I feel like Bone Armor doesn't even work lol. I don't feel ANY damage reduction even with 15 stacks of Bone Armor when I use the necklace.
Well, I tried this build precisely as it set. I tried a simple GR80. I wasn't dying, but it took forever to kill stuff and elites were a no-go. I subbed BoS for PE, and that seemed to work a bit better. I did not even come close to dying, so it is tanky, but it took me 20:28 to clear that simpel GR80 which is no good. I tried my simple bone storm build and completed it in 8:36 without dying. This build is tanky, but does not have the DPS to ever do GR90, at least not for me as I am under P1000. Great defense, NO OFFENSE!
I was on the same boat under 1k paragon. Most players that clear GR90 smoothly are paragon 1.5k and up, and that's with ANY build. That's just something to consider. It's a strong build and offers something different. Completing 80+ is more challenging because it's a tanky build. Personally, I like this build because it's not CDR dependent. It's more engaging than running around waiting for LotD.
Other players will prefer high dps builds because they want to beat timers. This build isn't made to race the clock but it's a good build and can get you to 80's in no time. Clearing 80+ without issues requires a bit of paragon and sheet damage.
Great guide, I like that you don't simply provide an overview, but also a lot of details in the written section below.
Since you mention the HC viablity explicitely, are there any
modifications you would suggest for that extra hunch of survivability?
If you have enough paragon then use blue gems. I was using red gems in 80+ but I had under 1k paragon.
OR
Swap out Gogok for an Eso.
Don't do both because you'll sacrifice too much damage.
This does look promising and I will give it a try once my gems are leveled. I do have a few questions as this build baffles me with some of your choices:
1- Why do you have CDR prioritized in your Stat Priority? You only have Bone Armor and Blood rush that use cooldowns and they will not benefit much from the CDR.
2- Why SOJ? The primary stats on SOJ are elite damage and guaranteed elemental damage, however, you do not have physical% as a stat priority, why???
3- Why Lornelles? Isn't Unity a better option for solo GR's
4- Wouldn't PE be a better gem than Stricken? Stricken is only good against bosses and elites, why use it for higher GR's?
5- What advantages are there over Bone Storm? Bone storm has a higher damage output with Corpse Lance, why switch? What are the advantages of this build?
1. Just an oversight. If you read the description it's very clear that CDR is not needed.
2. In the description, Physical damage is a stat priority under "Physical Synergy". The "gear" itself went through 3 or more changes. It evolved to SoJ. Another thing to mention is that initially this build was stacking attack speed with PE + Gogok. Hence Int + Attk speed were more optimal at the time.
3. They are "recommended" not required. There are other options in the description.
4. PE is fine. You can read in the comments section that we were using PE until 80-85 where we had trouble with the RG just taking way too long to kill. Stricken closed the gap. It really depends on which RG you get though. Some bosses are just a pain for melee.
5. Survivability. This is a tanky build. Plus, why not have options? Not everyone likes to wait for a cooldown every 20-30 secs just to anything. Most people don't even like Lance builds but they play it because there aren't many options available. And, why play a Lance build with Inarius when it's 10x better with Trag'Oul? In my opinion, Inarius is a melee set and my build supports that concept.
This build has always relied solely on Grim Scythe. I created this build in the first week of Necro release. Didn't even use Mirinae at first which isn't worth much anyway now.
I don't use Depth Diggers because you lose a gem slot and +15% Grim Scythe damage which you didn't include in your equation.
These are things I've tested at 80+ grs countless times. The only issue is the RG. SoJ provides consistent elite damage than CoE which I have tested as well.
It's still a solid build. It can't out perform blood lance or pet builds though especially since Rathma got buffed last hotfix. It does very well in hardcore because it's tanky. I've been meaning to test Strongarm Bracers with Dual Scythe but haven't gotten to it. I found out about a week ago that it procs the damage bonus from the bracers.
I cleared GR82 with Wreath, PE, and Mirinae. Haven't attempted 83 yet but I will really soon. I'm using Execution rune for Grim Scythe now which takes off roughly 30 seconds while fighting Rift Guardians.
I tried a variation just for fun in normal rifts. Didn't really need Leech in T13 rifts so I replaced it with Bone Spirit - Poltergeist and Defiler Cuisses for cube power, blue gem in helm, Endless Walk, and Obsidian ring instead of SoJ. Highly NOT recommended for solo grs or progression but if you're bored it adds some flavor.
Simulacrum - Reservoir is a fun one as well. 2 min cd sucks tho.
That seems to be an issue for all Inarius builds. Remember, I didn't use Mirinae at first. Initially, my gems were bott, gogok, and pe. Mirinae has always been an optional gem.
I ran 4 man GR75 just now and pretty much carried the party. Still at 1.5 mil sheet dmg. I had Mirinae equipped but really couldn't tell much from GR75. In any case, I'll probably just swap Mirinae for Gogok.
I tried Dual Scythe and it's definitely an option. I just felt more synergy with Blood Scythe especially when you're hitting multiple enemies. 10 enemies = around 100k per hit on top of Leech heals which provides synergy.
And again, grats on comfortably soloing 85's with this build.
Nice! I cleared GR80 myself last night with only 1.3 mil base damage which is not bad. Working my way up to 1.5 mil base damage to push for 85.
The survivability is definitely there. I rarely die unless I forget to proc Blood Rush or my Bone Armor falls which would just be human error and bad game play on my end. I try to use Blood Rush everytime it's up during fights to keep my toughness as high as possible in every fight. Some fights are just a pain such as jailers and every now and then you just get caught off guard for a split second and WHAM! you die while jailed. Sometimes I skip jailers but it really depends on the density and type of trash mobs surrounding the elites.
I noticed that I've been carrying a lot of teams between GR75-80 even though my damage is mediocre. The Aura of Frailty really shines in groups racking up killing blows. It feels good not having to rely on CDR which was my main goal in developing this build.
The difference in this build is that it offers a unique play style compared to cookie cutter LotD builds. It's pure melee. It's not a CDR based nuker. It's your old fashioned ground n pound build where you gather everything in sight and just go to town.
There is one ring that I need to test which is Brigg's Wrath since I'm using Ring of Royal Grandeur that could be easily swapped out along with a couple item adjustments. Brigg's Wrath could be very beneficial to a melee build. I will test it soon to see if it offers any advantageous utility to the build.
Let me know how you do in GR85. What's your current base dmg?
Thanks for catching that on my Amulet. I meant to update it. I'm using Wisdom of Kalan.
I figured you'd do fine in solo GR70+ since you were carrying 2 players at GR65. 2 players add 100% hp to all monsters which is equivalent to solo low 70 GR's.
My LoN build isn't relevant to this one but it's a work in progress.

I cleared GR81 myself with 1.4 sheet dps. I had to do some fishing but finally made it. Going to shoot for 82.
I'm trying out CoE instead of Lornelle's. Testing Grim Scythe - Execution as well which could be good for RG.
