I did it, with barb, like 2 months ago - I don't have any video or screenshot I can provide and that barb is long dead, but what I was using was a fire HotA build - using the HotA wep, bracers, cindercoat, magefists, andariel's visage (stack that % fire dmg as higher as possible, get % hota dmg as well and then you can invest everything in toughness), occulus ring (just stand in the circles and swing that hammer ). It may not get you the conquest from the first try, if you don't have the best possible gear, but if you are lucky with the pylons and the mobs in the rift - it should get the job done.
And yes, I've watched some guides in YT saying you can do this with items from different set as long as you don't have the set bonus, but I didn't want to risk it and I suggest you do the same - all orange, no green equipped
