P.S. Gear-dependent gameplay has been around for a lot longer than Diablo, too. Unfortunately, all online games are like that.
Yeah, I know what you mean. But to me, it is still a staple in the gameplay.
I think that if you are going to name something that wasn't present in Diablo I, you should give an explanation why you feel like it is "iconic" to diablo.
The point of this thread is for everyone to post their thoughts on what the think are Iconic Elements to the Diablo Franchise. Also, wether or not you feel like its going to be in diablo III or not. Please, no fighting over graphics, or anything some else posts. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, and you aren't going to change anyones anyway.note: these aren't always things super important to the gameplay, but things you have an emotional connection to form the games.
I'll Start.
-Isometric camera angle
-Large Swarms of monsters
-Point & Click Interface
-Unique Character Classes
-Treasure Hunting/Gear dependent gameplay
-Skill Trees (even though they weren't in diablo 1, I feel as though they completely set the standard for RPG's to follow, and it was SO important to diablo II gameplay, that I it counts.)
-The Character Sheet/+5 stat points per level
-Town Portals
-The Health/Mana Globes
-Certain Enemies (Fallen in particular)
-Pentagrams/Black Magic/Satanism(downplayed in D2, in favor of a more "Epic" Story.)
-Inventory Tetris/grid
Those last two are the only things feel are going to be missing in Diablo 3. I don't really think that either are important to the gameplay, so much as I feel like both are things that when I see, I feel like "this is diablo". They strike a certain emotional chord with me, and it makes me sad to see them go. Either way, I feel like the game will be great, but feel like it could use some of this and some of (Warning, graphic)this.
